Anything is possible at the A & P store Today in our trunk we have costumes galore Anything’s possible though nothing is free And everyone’s welcome at the A&P So step right up and choose your favorite costume. TL music cue for kids to get dressed up to music. Scene 1: Backstage ROMEO is admiring himself in the mirror, fixing his mane, checking his clothes. Romeo Romeo Romeo rap so sweet King of the Jungle, Lord of the Beat Hear me whisper, Hear me roar And all you animals will scream for more. So roar, roar as loud as you can Be like a lion, scream like a fan ALPHONSE knocks on the dressing room door. Alphonse (off stage) Romeo, Romeo fifteen minutes till sound check. Ok? Romeo OK. 2 February 2013 Alphonse Make-up and hair are on their way to your dressing room. Anything else you need before tonight’s show? Romeo No. Thanks, Alphonse. I’m just getting ready. Alphonse We’re sold out tonight. Every cat in the jungle will be there. I’m bringing some heavy hitters from the music business to hear our sound. Romeo (singing) I got a feeling tonight’s gonna to be a good night… Alphonse Sound check in 15 mins, and show time in an hour, Romeo Romeo. Romeo Right on, Alphonse. Scene 2: The A&P Store MR A&P enters center stage Mr A &P Hello Everyone at OMB Nice to see you again, I’m Mr. A&P I sell animal sounds at my store Grunts, squeals, and the occasional roar Anything is possible at the A & P store We have sounds and voices galore Anything’s possible though nothing is free And everyone’s welcome at the A&P Actor 3 sound effect: Ding dong. Oh, my first customer! (Team Leader finds kid to be Customer #1 and gives line prompts to read) Customer 1(kid) I need a Meow. 3 February 2013 Mr. A& P What sort? A loud one? A quiet one? Customer 1 (kid) A quiet one that sounds like this (kid meows) Mr. A&P That’s a lovely Meow. We have one just like that in aisle 12.(here it is, and Mr. A& P hads the kid a fed ex envelope) Please take a bow as you deserve applause right now. Actor 3 sound effect: Ding dong. Yay, my second customer of the day! (Team Leader finds kid to be Customer #2 & gives line prompts) Customer 2 (kid) I’m looking for a new squeak. Mr A&P But you aren’t a mouse. You look like (some other animal). Customer 2 (kid) Yes, but I’m looking for a change. I’d like a new image. Mr. A&P Well anything’s possible and you’ve come to the right place. Aisle 703 for squeaks and squeals. Please take a bow because you deserve applause right now. (hands the kid a fed ex envelope) Actor 3 sound effect: Ding Dong. Sound cue: Santa Baby sung by Miss Piggy. MISS PIGGY enters singing the song. Miss Piggy (offstage) Santa Baby, Just slip a sable under the tree For me Been an awful good girl Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight Music off. Mr. A&P It’s Miss Piggy! Dear Miss Piggy, what brings you to the A&P? 4 February 2013 Miss Piggy Hello, hello Mr. A (kisses one side of Mr A&P) and hello Mr. P (kisses other cheek). (Seeing the kids) Oh look at all my fans! Mr. A&P No, no, no they are my customers, Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy (not hearing Mr. A&P) says hello to all the kids (the customers) and takes them for her fans. “Oh you want my autograph, of course here you are.” “You want a picture with Miss piggy? Absolutely just for you.” Finally she turns back to Mr. & P. Enough, enough. I’m in a hurry today. I’d like to change my grunt for a squeal. Kermit loves it when I squeal. I pride myself on my high heels, my hot pink toenails and a squeal that makes a frog hop. I cannot show my pretty, pudgey, piggy face at the concert, sans squeal. Mr A&P So you’re going to the concert too? Miss Piggy But of course. We never miss Romeo and the Romantics. That’s why I need a squeal for tonight, to match my Prada bag. Mr A&P A designer squeal then? Miss Piggy But of course, nothing but the best pour Moi. Sound cue: Car screech. Derek Duck enters from the back of the room, making his way through the audience. (improvising: “Excuse me, Excuse me. I’m in a hurry. Very important. Must get to the head of the line.” Mr. A&P Oh it’s Donald Duck. The Donald. Miss Piggy Donald, Donald. It’s me, remember moi? Miss Piggy. Mr. A&P Hello Mr. Donald Duck. We’re honored to see you at the A&P. Derek Quit your quacking. I’m Derek, Donald’s brother. I’m here on a very important mission. 5 February 2013 Mr. A&P Derek. Yes, yes. But you’re an actor too. You were in that cartoon about that umm, it was the one about the- Derek Cat and mouse, yes…it was a long time ago. Now I’m Donald’s manager. Mr. A&P Oh Yes. Tom and Jerry! They’re here all the time, two of our favorite customers. Oh you were very, very good. Derek That’s all very well but I’m in a hurry, have to get back to Hollywood tout suite-- Miss Piggy (giggles) That’s French you know. Derek -- and I have one job to do here. Donald needs a new quack. So get quacking. Mr A&P Yes sir, Mr Derek. Let me get the lady her squeal first, then I’ll take care of your quack tout suite. Miss Piggy, my other customers here (He points to the kids) will give you some squeal samples. Let’s see, oh yes customer (name of kid), let’s hear your squeal. Oh nice one. And you, customer (another kid), let’s hear the squeal you have; Oh that one’s on special I do believe. (Kid squeals). Miss Piggy They are all so gorgeous and varied I want them all, but I have to be quick. The clock is ticking. It is so difficult to choose. But for tonight’s show I think I’ll take, ummmm, that one! Mr. A&P Wonderful. We’ll send the squeal via Fed Ex to your hotel immediately. That will be $9.99, Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy Just put it on my account, Mr. P, and Merci Mr. A. Au revoir, mes enfants, au revoir. (as she exits) Kermit! Keeermit…..have you got your croak for tonight? Miss Piggy exits Mr. A&P Isn’t she charming? Derek Ok. Let’s get this show on the road. I don’t have much time. Will you wrap Donald’s new quack to go? I’ve got the car waiting. 6 February 2013 Mr. A&P It’s going to take overnight. Donald’s quack needs a little tweaking, but it’ll be perfect. How about we send it by Fed Ex tomorrow straight to Hollywood. Would that work, Mr. Derek? (trying to get Derek out of the shop) Derek So I can tell everyone at Disney that the quack is on track? Mr A&P You have my word. Goodbye Derek. (Derek exits & Mr. A& P gives a Fed Ex box to one of the kids to keep). Now it’s time to close up shop so we can all go to hear Romeo and the Romantics. We haven’t missed one of their shows yet. Romeo, 30 mins till show time. Romeo It’s gone – this has never happened before. Alphonse What’s gone? Romeo My roar. Alphonse Relax Romeo. Romeo, is it stage fright, or did you go to a roaring party last night? 7 February 2013 Romeo I haven’t got stage fright. And I didn’t go to any parties. My roar’s gone, man. (sits on the trunk with his head in his hands) ALPHONSE asks kids to talk about times they’ve lost their voice Enter SINGITA Singita What’s up guys? Romeo? Romeo are you feeling okay? Alphonse He’s lost his roar! Romeo I’ve lost my roar. Singita What? You’re kidding! Romeo I wish I was. I’ve lost my roar, my growl – call it what you want – it’s gone.
