Journal of Management Information and Decision Sciences Volume 22, Issue 3, 2019 THE SPATIAL CHANGES BASED ON THE ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES AS AN INDICATOR FOR THE SETTLEMENT INTEGRATION Mohammad Ischak, Universitas Trisakti Bambang Setioko, Universitas Diponegoro Dedes Nurgandarum, Universitas Trisakti Willy Arafah, Universitas Trisakti ABSTRACT One of the characteristics of the growth of Jakarta's metropolitan city is the emergence of large-scale planned settlements outside the city that previously had the character of rural areas. Although physically there is a spatial separation between the indigenous settlements and large- scale planned settlement designed by developers very firmly, but the indigenous settlements still exist today, and they can integrated with the planned settlement. The purpose of this study is to find out how residents of indigenous settlements can survive in the face of changes with the pressure of the emergence of large-scale planned settlement vicinity. The research uses a case study method, with observation units covering one indigenous settlement, while the analysis unit takes the form of social interaction based on economic activities both routinely and incidentally. The results of this research showed that there are formed integration between indigeneous settlement and new town was greatly influenced by the emergence of opportunities to obtain additional family income through changes in space in their houses that were used as business houses and rented houses. The changes in the function of the building gave rise to socio- economic characters because the residents still maintained the values of closeness even with migrants. This condition produces a spatial character called socio-economic spatial formation, and supported by aspects of access that continue to connect between the two settlements.

  • Politics and Urban Development Focus on Jakarta's Shopping Center Trajectory
POLITICS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOCUS ON JAKARTA’S SHOPPING CENTER TRAJECTORY A Thesis Presented to the FaCulty of ArChiteCture and Planning COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of SCienCe in Urban Planning by Melinda Martinus May 2018 Advisor Hiba Bou Akar Reader Gavin Shatkin Abstract "City of consumerism" seems to be an appropriate moniker for Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Over the past few years, Jakarta has transformed from an administrative town where both state and local public authorities exercise policy and development strategy — into an economic empire of the nation. Economic indicators pointed out that the economic development in the metropolitan region is massive; 6 percent economic growth, rising middle-class’ purchasing power, and increasing foreign property investment. Urban scholars have highlighted that this urban transformation is much influenced by modern world-class city aspiration driven by the private sectors who are able to display grandiose modern projects and influence the policy makers. One of the many phenomena that shows this urban revolution is the booming of shopping center development in the metropolitan region. Currently, Jakarta Metropolitan Region has 153 shopping centers, supplying more than 5 million square meter retail spaces to the 30 million metropolitan population. I argue that the enormous number of shopping center operated in the city comes as the result of the shifting urban development focus towards neoliberalism bounded to an intricate economic, political, and ideological system of the nation. Using urban historical framework and the mapping techniques, I seek to analyze the urban transformation through the shopping center perspective.

Perjanjian No: III/LPPM/2015-02/23-P Relasi Bentuk dan Dimensi Tapak Dengan Regulasi Dalam Pembentukan Karakteristik Fisik Koridor Komersial (Studi Kasus Koridor Komersial Serpong-Tangerang) Disusun Oleh: Dr.Rumiati Rosaline Tobing Julia Dewi ST., MT Prof. • New Town Development in Jakarta Metropolitan Region (JMR)
Large-Scale Housing and New Town Development in Jakarta Metropolitan Area (JMA): Towards an Urban Spatial Segregation Tommy Firman Department of Regional and City Planning Institute of Technology, Bandung Indonesia This paper discusses the extent to which land and new town development has reinforced spatial segregation in Jakarta Metropolitan Area (JMA). The demand for new town has been essentially generated by the need for security and fulfilling exclusive life style, while innovative have been able to sell an image of new town as a symbol of ‘modernism.’ New town development has reinforced spatial segregation in three ways: First, it has polarized the middle and upper income groups, resulting in scattered pockets of exclusive residential areas. Second, within the new towns themselves, the upper middle and high class occupied exclusive designed areas and to the highest security possible. Third, in several new towns urban development management are carried out by the developers, instead of by the City Hall. The spatial segregation in JMA can be classified as ‘self segregation’ or ‘voluntary segregation.’ It would continue and it is inevitable, resulted from socioeconomic and political condition of the urban society as a whole. Spatial segregation refers to the residential separation of sub- groups within a wider population which could be associated primarily with racial groups, ethnicity, religious beliefs or income status (Johnston et al, 1983). According to van Kempen and Ozuckren (1998) spatial segregation comes into existence when some areas show an overrepresentation and other areas an underrepresentation of members of group. It could exist between housing estates within neighborhoods, between urban neighborhoods, and between cities and its surounding areas (p.1632; see also Marcuse and van Kempen, 2000a).
