The purpose of the analysis is to ialustrate the importance of outdoor recreation in Texas and the contribution of various agencies, rather than to determine the quality of recreation programs in the state. Presented first is an examination of outdoor recreation on federal government lands in Texas including those administered by the National Park Service, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, U. S. Forest Service, and U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. Following this is a description of state government lands administered by the Texas Park and Wildlife Department, Texas Forest Service, and Texas River Authorities. Information is also givPn for lakes under jurisdiction of water districts, municipalities, and counties. Numerous tables provide statistics on each area regarding name, location, facility description, recreation opportunities, administering agency, acreage, and 1966 attendance. The data were obtained directly from published reports and records of agencies and generally reflect an accurate description of agency involvement in outdoor recreation. The Department of Recreation and Parks at Texas AgeN1 University has col- lected basic data and is maintaining files as a part of on-going research; consequently this report will be updated periodically as new data become available. Numerous individuals representing agencies on the federal, state and local levels,assistedinthisstudy.     Highlights of the 2010 River Management Society and National Association of Recreation Resource Planners Symposium The River Management Society joined with the National Association of Recreation Resource Planners (NARRP) to host their biennial symposium on river management. Recognizing resource protection as a core value, the symposium explored how scientists, planners, and managers are maintaining or restoring ecosystem sustainability while providing opportunities for high quality recreation experiences on rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Participants at the symposium interacted with regional and national leaders in river conservation and recreation management through a diverse program. The symposium theme, “Bridging Conservation and Recreation” recognizes that resource professionals too often become narrowly focused in their specialties, and that effective long- term management usually requires broader cross-disciplinary solutions. The symposium provided opportunities for professionals to network and integrate their knowledge from many fields. Attendees left with renewed creativity and passion for natural resource management in watersheds. Since the 19th century, LEPC and the habitat upon which they depend has diminished across their historical range (Crawford and Bolen 1976, Taylor and Guthery 1980a), with recent estimates of current occupied range totaling approximately 17% of the estimated area of their historical range. Causes for this reduction in occupied range are primarily attributed to habitat loss and fragmentation (USFWS 2012). Habitat loss has been caused by conversion of native prairie to cropland (Bent 1932, Copelin 1963, Taylor and Guthery 1980) and long term fire suppression (Woodward et al. 2001) leading to tree invasion (Fuhlendorf et al. 2002). Grazing management practices would help improve habitat if managed to benefit LEPC. Heavily grazed fields that leave no residual vegetation for broods can be detrimental to LEPC (Sell 1979, Hunt and Best 2010). Habitat fragmentation has resulted from a combination of habitat loss and degradation caused by oil and gas development (Hunt 2004) and suspected effects of wind energy development (Pruett et al. 2009). The LEPC is not thought to occur in Kiowa and Rita Blanca National Grasslands (KRB) (Giesen 2003), however some parcels within the grasslands are managed for LEPC.
