 An Overview of CAECWs Since 2008, Ministry of Education of the P. R. China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the P. R. China and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province have successfully co-hosted seven sessions of China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW). CAECW has become a well-known and important platform for China and ASEAN to develop educational and cultural cooperation and to enhance better understanding and friendship. Since then, there appears more practical education cooperation, colorful cultural exchanges and other projects in multi-dimensional collaborative fields. CAECW aims to create an educational brand featuring China-ASEAN cooperation. Up till now, CAECWs have attracted over 4,880 participants, 1,050 colleges or universities, as well as educational organizations from China, ASEAN and other countries, with 654 education agreements and cooperation memorandums being signed. Over the past seven years, CAECWs have conducted as many as 70 activities, including Education Minister Roundtable Conference, University Rector Forums, Seminars, Workshops, Educational Exhibitions, Youth Sports Festivals, Youth Summer Camps and Food Festivals, etc. The practical and diverse activities provide a broad and effective platform for China-ASEAN education exchanges. With a foothold at present, CAECW will always act as a two-way cultural bridge connecting its participants and enhancing mutual trust for more cooperation and exchanges in the future.  Theme and Objectives of the 8th CAECW Learning from each other for the well-being of the future 互学互鉴 福祉未来 The theme for this year is “Learning from each other for the well-being of the future.“ There are similarities and differences between China and ASEAN on education and culture. We should enhance communication and learn from each other for the progress and development of education and culture which play important roles in the well-being of the people and the future of the nation. China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, a platform aiming to create and develop more practical and win-win educational and cultural cooperation, provides grand opportunities for educational and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN. Objectives ● Further enhancing regional educational and cultural cooperation ● Promoting students mobility in various forms ● Providing a platform for universities, colleges and schools to establish long-term partnership ● Developing scientific and technological research cooperation ● Promoting youth exchanges in culture, science, technology and other fields ● Improving talents cultivation and employment ● Sharing experience on teaching facilities and resources  Highlights of the 8th CAECW Special Guest Countries From the 8th CAECW on, for better expanding the cooperative area and scope, the Organizing Committee initiates the mechanism of Special Guest Countries to invite different countries other than China and ASEAN member countries to participate every year. Special Guest Countries for 2015 are Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Switzerland. We believe that the presence of the universities, colleges and schools, educational organizations, research institutions, media and enterprises from these countries will bring more practical cooperation to the 8th CAECW. Beyond one “Week” Apart from the activities to be held in the “week” in Guizhou, the Organizing Committee will introduce other activities hosted by other organizations devoted to promote educational cooperation between China and ASEAN in other time and other places.  Convention Venue The 8th CAECW will be held in Guiyang International Eco-Conference Center, Guiyang, Guizhou, P.  Host Location: Guizhou Province Guizhou is the host province for CAECW. Located in the southwestern part of P. R. China, Guizhou Province is abbreviated to “Qian” or “Gui”, with Guiyang City as its provincial capital which is best known for its cool and amicable summer climate. Good weather coupled with picturesque landscape makes Guizhou one of the most frequently visited summer resort destinations in East Asia.

Brief Introduction to Education of Guizhou Province In recent years, the education of Guizhou Province has undergone significant development. By the end of 2014, Guizhou had 4,767 kindergartens with 1,198,900 children, 9,275 elementary schools with 3,463,100 students, 2,166 junior high schools with 2,068,300 students, 438 senior high schools with 942,700 students, 65 special education schools with 13,500 students, 209 secondary vocational schools with 544,500 students, 59 colleges and universities with 595,100 students. There are 26 universities offering degree programs and 29 vocational colleges among the 55 universities and colleges. There are 7 comprehensive universities (including 1 “211 Project” key university), 3 medical universities, 6 normal universities, 1 financial and economic university, 1 science and technology university and 8 community-financed institutes. By adhering to expanding the opening-up in education, education of Guizhou has experienced rapid development in size and great improvement in quality.
