A non-canonical AU based on the cast of Neon Genesis Evangelion but re-imagining the principle characters as junior detectives solving murder mysteries perpetrated by The Angels. The art style is very different from the "official" manga and could be off putting for some readers. The story Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse Volume 2 very strange and only tenuously connected to the original source material. It might be more enjoyable for readers who have no prior knowledge of NGE than for those that do. As someone already familiar with t A non- canonical AU based on the cast of Neon Genesis Evangelion but re-imagining the principle characters as junior detectives solving murder mysteries perpetrated by The Angels. As someone already familiar with the NGE-verse, I found it too much of a departure to really hold my attention. I read the first volume and was like, "ok that's weird" and didn't feel any need to pick up the next volume. Your mileage may vary. Jun 23, Andy Bintoro rated it liked it Shelves: fantasymanga. I rather disappointed with this series, the continuation of the first series. The first series would be a lot of better although the graphics need to be remake. The genre also change from fantasy mecha to magic mecha. May 29, Jeremy rated it liked it. Dec 18, ReadingFrog rated it did not like it Shelves: mangascience-fiction. This time around, Shinji is recruited by Kaworu, Rei, and Asuka to fight angels now humanoid demons using their personas evangelions. They do this at midnight and go to school during the day. So yes, somewhat derivative, though from what I hear Devil Survivor 2 borrows a bit from NGE, so I Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse Volume 2 to think that Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse Volume 2 franchises have a nice symbiotic relationship. Art was nice enough but differs from Sakamoto's pretty significantly. Not too many apocalyptic elements despite the title, which is particularly odd considering NGE's history with the subject. This manga is the first really different version of Evangelion to appear, and despite greatly diverging from the original, its very good. Many of the characters from the original series are here, which is especially good for Kaworu and Asuka as they get to be developed from the start of the storyline rather than partway through. There are interesting and funny references to the original series, including the nickname Neon Genesis Evangelion: Campus Apocalypse Volume 2 Trifecta" for Shinji, Kensuke, and Toji. The plot looks very interesting This manga is the first really different version of Evangelion to appear, and despite greatly diverging from the original, its very good. The plot looks very interesting so far, and although it makes sense right now, it will almost certainly undergo multiple twists that will make it just as complex as that of the original Evangelion. This latest series of Evangelion manga is off to a good start, and I'm looking forwards to volume 2. Jul 25, Jenna rated it it was ok Shelves: graphic-novelsyoung-adult. The cover caught my eye as did the title, as I loved the Evangelion series End of, not so much. I both liked and disliked this version of Shinji. VVhile it was nice to see a different "tougher" version of him, it also did not feel fully fleshed out and still reliant upon the television series. The same goes for Nagisa Kaworu, who was my favourite character in the series despite his extremely brief appearance time. Dec 14, John Keegan rated it liked it. That said, this is probably the best showing for Kaworu I've seen, and Asuka's personality couldn't be nailed better and damn is she wonderful! I watched the original Evangelion anime a couple of summers ago due to its huge influence on the giant mecha genre and had recently watched the Rebuild movies. I was on my Evangelion high when I attempted to read this. The artwork is nice and I love Kowaru's character in any variation but it just wasn't enough to garner my interest. The Second Try Jimmy Wolk Chapter I: The 12th Shinji Ikari, Third Children and designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-01, had just reached a new sync- ratio record. And as Rei Ayanami suspected, the former holder of this record, known as Asuka Langley Soryu, wasn't very pleased with this. So she didn't pay much attention to the rants of the Second Children, who made obviously ironical statements about the 'great, invincible Shinji' while holding herself; swaying in front of her locker. Instead, Rei finished changing from the plugsuit the pilots were supposed to wear during their time in the entry plugs of the EVAs or the test plugs, into her casual school uniform. As soon as she was done, she went silently for the door of the female pilots' changing room, whispered "Sayonara" and left. With the First Children gone, Asuka could finally release all the feelings that tensed up the last hours in a powerful... ...sigh. She still had problems to play this charade in front of everyone, and it seemed to only grow harder. She wasn't sure if she would be able to keep it up much longer at all. Not while these thoughts disturbed her mind; thoughts of all the things that happened... or will happen soon. Lost in her worries, she failed to notice someone entering the room, sneaking up to her and suddenly embracing her from behind; encircling her arms with his own. She tensed up noticeably as she felt the touch, even though (or maybe just because) she knew exactly who the stranger was.

FREENEON GENESIS EVANGELION EBOOK Yoshiyuki Sadamoto | 176 pages | 05 May 2004 | Viz Media, Subs. of Shogakukan Inc | 9781591163909 | English | San Francisco, United States Neon Genesis Evangelion Wiki New Century Evangelioncommonly referred to as Neon Genesis Evangelionis a Japanese anime series, created by Gainaxthat began in October It gained international renown and won several animation awards, and was the start of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The term "Evangelion" is in relation to the ancient Greek term for "good messenger" or "good news". The name was chosen in part for its religious symbolism, as well as for the fact that Hideaki Anno said he liked the word "Evangelion" because it "sound[ed] complicated". The Evangelion series revolves around the organization NERV, using large mechas called Evangelions to combat monstrous beings called Angels. While the initial episodes focus largely on religious symbols and specific references to the Bible, the later episodes tend to go deeper into the psyches of the characters, where it is learned that many of them have deep-seated emotional and mental issues. Through the exploration of these issues, the show begins to question reality and the existences therein. Much of the series's content was based on Hideaki Anno's own clinical depression. The story of Neon Genesis Evangelion primarily begins in with the " Second Impact ", a global cataclysm which almost completely destroyed Antarctica and led to the deaths of half the human population of Earth. The Impact is believed by the public at large and even most of NERV to have been the impact of a meteorite landing in Antarctica, causing devastating tsunamis and a change in the Earth's axial tilt leading to global climate change and subsequent geopolitical unrest, nuclear war such as the nuking of Tokyoand general economic distress.

Anime has its own fan culture in the United States known as otaku, or the obsessive lifestyle surrounding manga and anime, which has resulted in American production companies creating their own “anime.” Japanese filmmakers do not regard anime simply as a cartoon, but instead realize it as genre of film, such as action or comedy. However, Japanese anime is not only dynamic and influential because of its storylines, characters, and themes, but also for its purposeful choices in music. Since the first anime Astro Boy and through films such as Akira, Japanese animation companies combine their history from the past century with modern or “westernized” music. Unlike cartoon films produced by Disney or Pixar, Japanese anime do not use music to mimic the actions on-screen; instead, music heightens and deepens the plot and emotions. This concept is practiced in live-action feature films, and although anime consists of hand-drawn and computer-generated cartoons, Japanese directors and animators create a “film” experience with their dramatic choice of music.

  • Cruel Translator's Thesis
Japanska Cruel Translator's Thesis A comparative translational analysis of a professional and a fan-made subtitle of Neon Genesis Evangelion Markus Berg Handledare: Martin Nordeborg Kandidat Examinator: HT 2013 Abstract This study will investigate the relationship between a fan translation and an official, professional translation of a Japanese anime, both in a cultural and qualitative context. Do fan translations do more to bring out the 'foreignness' of the source material? Is there an obvious difference in the quality or accuracy of the fan translation and the official work? By transcribing the original Japanese dialog and both translations, this paper will analyze the differences between the official translation and a fan-made translation of the mid-nineties TV animated series Neon Genesis Evangelion. This analysis will be carried out using existing literature by, first and foremost, Lawrence Venuti, Antoine Berman and Yoko Hasegawa. By comparing word-choices and sentence-structure, the study examines whether there are any patterns to how the two subtitles approach translation of Japanese into English, and whether any translation strategies can be discerned by studying such patterns. In conclusion, the study finds that the official translation employs a consistent strategy of familiarization, while the fan-made subtitle haphazardly mixes foreignization and domestication. This in turn means that the professional translation is both more consistent, and of higher quality from a more general standpoint. God’s in His Heaven, All’s Right with The World: Eva’s Contested Relationship to Religion Neon Genesis Evangelion (Eva) is an anime produced by Gainax studios. As can be seen by the title alone, there is a suggested connection between the series and Biblical tradition, which has been highly contested and debated since the release of the original series. Some critics of the anime claim that the religious symbolism is just thrown in, and some of the people who worked on the show would even agree-- Kazuya Tsurumaki noted in an interview: Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan, we thought it would be mysterious.
