Being given the honourable position of Student President enables me to listen to the students’ ideas, thoughts and take their opinions on board. This will hopefully ensure that the college continues to develop and progress so that the quality of each student’s experience is continuously being improved.

HCUC - A MERGER BETWEEN UXBRIDGE COLLEGE AND On 1 August 2017 Uxbridge College and Harrow College merged to become HCUC. The colleges are now officially part of the same organisation and will work together to provide the best opportunities for our students. We are part of the same organisation but the colleges will keep their individual names. We will still be known as Uxbridge College and our students will study on one of our two campuses in Uxbridge and Hayes.

CHRISSIE - CAREERS ADVISER

We are a dedicated team of professionals, who give advice to students on the academic and vocational studies available, empowering them to make the right choices for their future. We provide group talks, workshops, outreach work, visiting schools and careers fairs. We also organise events like Work Week and our successful higher education fair - last year we had over 65 universities exhibit and 2000 students visited.

These programmes are perfect for students that want to take a vocational pathway and give themselves an academic edge when applying to university. Most BTEC students take their BTEC qualification over two years and it is the equivalent to three full A Levels. My aim is to support students throughout their college life in order for them to overcome any barriers which could otherwise prevent them from achieving their best possible outcome.

I lead a fantastic team who work across both campuses promoting wellbeing, financial support, volunteering and support for our most vulnerable students.

I am very proud of the work we do in student support and, with our outstanding facilities, we enrich the college experience with extra-curricular activities and events

such as Freshers’ Fair, Healthy College and various sporting opportunities.

STUDENT SUPPORT Staff offer you a friendly helping hand when you need it most. They help with personal issues, relationship advice, information on childcare, keeping yourself safe and healthy, managing your finances, accessing financial support and much more. The Student Support Team also lead on safeguarding across the college. They have been acknowledged for the work they have done to help students who are in, or are leaving, care. We are proud to have achieved the matrix Standard for the support we provide to our students. Units may include developing independent living skills, being healthy, shopping for daily living, using communication skills in the workplace and undertaking an enterprise project. THE PRINCE'S TRUST

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is designed for 16-25 year old UK residents, who have been out of education, in or leaving care, and who have not achieved an accredited qualification and wish to re-enter education or employment. The programme incorporates practical and written tasks including a community project, a team building residential trip, a work placement, practical and creative workshops and CV and interview skills. Students build a portfolio and work towards gaining a Prince’s Trust Level 1/Level 2 Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills (QCF) qualification.

139 16-19 BURSARY If you are aged 16-19, on low household income and are finding it hard to pay for the costs of studying at college, you can apply for extra support payments. This could be as much as £15 per week to help with the cost of college, subject to high attendance, punctuality and commitment to your studies. There may also be additional funds available if you are 16-19 years old, in care, a care leaver, living independently on income support or severely disabled and getting both ESA and DLA. In 2016/17 this was up to £1,200 per year (£40 a week). You are encouraged to apply for these bursaries during enrolment or at the start of term. There is no form to fill out, but you will need to provide documentary evidence of household income or a letter from your local authority if you are applying for the £1,200 bursary.
