  • Idioms-And-Expressions.Pdf
Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thai- land, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn com- mon, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscom- munication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to as- sist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used in context.

  • Saniah 15 Years Old with a Zap of Illuminating Cyan
Saniah 15 years old With a zap of illuminating cyan Astrid’s cognitive implants summoned a platinum-glazed automobile; levitating, luminous and in all its glory. As she got in her mind immersed itself in a nostalgic bubblegum melody, its rhythm oozing an overwhelming sweetness like confectionary. The air around Astrid was infused with an aromatic mist of industrial candy cane, accompanying the grapefruit-tinged tangerine sky. A crooked asphalt trail lay ahead of her, scattered with bushes of wild freesia on either side. Extending her arm, engraved with several radiant hieroglyphics, she attempted to graze the delicate freesias. Confusion darkened Astrid’s features. She stared blankly at her palm and then back at the freesia. Her hands mindlessly wandered through and beyond the bush. She exerted all her focus on that single flower, pinpointing its exact location in her cognitive implants, trying once again. When her mind registered that no sensation could be felt Astrid fell face-first on the cold, hard marble floor of the institute. When Astrid had opened her eyes, her vision was a hazy kaleidoscope. Neon hues of harsh purple and green splashed around in her head. With a buzz her implants cleared out the acidic trance her mind had lost itself in. Astrid saw that a swarm of droids had gathered around her, eyeing her down as if she were a feeble prey at the mercy of a predator. Without a second glance Astrid sprinted back to her room, shakily wiping the tears that had put her vision into disarray. Astrid hated the feeling of being looked down upon, especially by those that had caused the destruction of everything she had ever cherished.

  • Nghtmre 2019
NGHTMRE's ascent to the upper echelons of dance music stardom has been nothing short of dream-like. His meticulous production and pulsating performances have cemented him as both a festival mainstay and dance music tastemaker. His collaborations with Zeds Dead, Dillon Francis, Flux Pavilion and SLANDER have catapulted him across the world, from Tomorrowland in Belgium to World DJ Fest in Seoul. NGHTMRE burst onto the scene in 2015, when Skrillex dropped his unreleased single "Street" on the main stage at Ultra Music Festival – electronic music's premiere event. That record would go on to be one of the biggest trap songs of the summer and lead Tyler Marenyi to become the darling of Diplo's Mad Decent imprint, an international festival superstar, and a resident DJ at Las Vegas's famed Hakkasan. Tyler then embarked on a near sell-out, thirty-four city "Gud Vibrations" US bus tour with best friends Derek and Scott of SLANDER. Their GV brand has seen exponential growth with a worldwide audience; it began with back to back sellout nights headlining the Hollywood Palladium, quickly followed by packing the NOS Events Center with 10,000 fans. The boys then took Gud Vibrations global with an Australia & New Zealand and Asia tours, a takeover of Red Rocks amphitheater, and a Miami Boat Party during Miami Music Week. You can also hear their weekly Gud Vibrations radio show on Sirius XM's Diplo's Revolution, with both NGHTMRE and SLANDER hosting the show. Most notably, NGHTMRE and SLANDER took the plunge and launched Gud Vibrations as an official record label in late 2018, choosing up-and-comer WAVEDASH as their premiere artist with the release of the label's first track, “Deathwish.” NGHTMRE's resume hosts a slew of successful music and star-studded collaborations, including his explorative "Magic Hour" EP with Pell, the trippy "Another Dimension" with Dillon Francis, "Save Yourself" with the Chainsmokers, "Like That" with Big Gigantic and "TTM" with Whiz Khalifa and PnB Rock.

Identity and Awareness: Manifestations of Self and Persona in Early Modern English Drama By Copyright 2014 Zsolt Mohi Submitted to the graduate degree program in English and the Graduate Faculty of the University of Kansas in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. ________________________________ Chairperson Geraldo U. de Sousa ________________________________ David M. The reader will follow the very different ways these characters respond to the demand that they represent themselves in the respective social worlds they inhabit. The protagonist in each of the plays, in Gammer Gurton’s Needle, in Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, in Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, in Arden of Faversham, and in Shakespeare’s Othello, uses rhetorical skills, the impression he makes on the senses of other characters, and action to embody the function the fictional world prescribes for them. It will appear that the three corresponding media, that is, language, perception, and action, do not only give characters an opportunity to manifest aspects of their public persona; but these media also represent that dramatic world, its social conditions, and the identity of others to the characters I examine.
