Begegnung mit anderen, mit Vertrautem, mit Freunden, mit neuen und alten Werken, mit der Kunst. Motor und zentrales Geschehen in all dem ist die musika- lische Kommunikation. Sie ist eine der Sprachen der Seele, deren Botschaft über die Bedeutung der Worte hinaus geht. Würde man all das, was in den vergangenen fünf Jahren durch die Musik in diesem Haus in jedem einzelnen Hörer individuell zum Klingen kam, in Worte fassen – es füllte Bände und Bände; mehr als alle Bibliotheken dieses Landes zu umfassen vermögen. So vielfältig sich Luxemburg als Land und Heimstatt vieler Kulturen zeigt, so viel- fältig ist die Zusammensetzung des musikalischen Programms in der Philharmonie. Von Anfang an sollte niemand vergessen werden! Und so haben die Menschen, die für das Haus arbeiten, versucht, auch Menschen zu erreichen, die von der di- rekten Begegnung mit der Musik und der Kultur durch verschiedenste Umstände ausgeschlossen sind. Viele haben die Philharmonie in diesen ersten Jahren (und schon davor!) tatkräftig unterstützt, allen voran die Regierung des Großherzogtums Luxemburg, aber auch viele unserer Wirtschaftspartner und Freunde. Mein Dank gilt im Besonderen Damien Wigny, dem Präsidenten, und all seinen Kollegen im Verwaltungsrat – und jedem Einzelnen im Team der Philharmonie. Für viele zählt so manche in der Philharmonie verbrachte Stunde zu den wertvollen Momenten des innigen Selbstseins im musikalischen Geschehen; zum Erleben einer Dimension, die über den nüchternen Rausch der Vernunft hinaus weist, und zu dem, was man man ausschließlich in der direkten Begegnung mit der Kunst erleben kann. Wir erleben Zeit oft als Anfang und als Ende, und so manches Mal empfinden wir das Fortschreiten der Zeit als Bedrohung, als Quell von Sorge und Druck. In einem gelungenen Konzert verliert die Zeit diese Dimension. Die Meisterschaft der Interpreten, die Schöpferkraft der Komponisten und das tiefe Erleben von Musik durch die Zuhörenden vermag die Zeit im Einzelnen zum Stillstand zu bringen und schenkt uns damit einen kleinen Augenblick der Ewigkeit. Fünf Jahre sind für ein auf lange Dauer angelegtes Projekt wie die Philharmonie Luxembourg eine kurze Zeit. Und doch haben diese ersten fünf Jahre der Zeit schon so manchen Moment der Ewigkeit entlockt! Matthias Naske Generaldirektor 7 Cinq ans après La Philharmonie fête déjà son cinqième anniversaire. Certains d’entre vous étaient peut-être présents lors de l’ouverture officielle le 26 juin 2005, à la fois curieux de découvrir cet édifice à la beauté éloquente, mais portant aussi un regard inquiet et même critique sur les objectifs affichés. Il est vrai que le défi était énorme. Notre souhait était de créer un lieu de vie et de découvertes, un lieu de rencontre et de dialogue, un lieu où nous serions des passeurs, des éveilleurs, des intermé- diaires, au sens le plus noble, entre les artistes, les compositeurs, les interprètes et le public. Je pense pouvoir dire que la Philharmonie a réussi à s’affirmer comme acteur culturel de tous les publics et ainsi à remplir sa fonction de cohésion sociale tout en développant de nouvelles audiences. Il n’y a pas de succès si le public n’est pas au rendez-vous! Les 160 000 visiteurs que nous avons pu accueillir en 2009 témoignent de notre réussite. Sans avoir eu la pré- tention de dire ce que le public doit écouter, nous avons, au cours de ces 5 saisons, toujours cherché à l’inviter à des promenades musicales plus ou moins exigeantes. La diversité et la qualité de la programmation et des abonnements proposés ont su convaincre, tant au Luxembourg qu’au-delà de nos frontières. Les quelque 11 000 abonnements vendus au cours de cette saison 2009/10 traduisent la volonté de nos visiteurs à se lier durablement à notre maison. C’est une preuve de confiance qui nous encourage à maintenir nos efforts et nous conforte dans les choix que nous avons arrêtés jusqu’à présent. Créer des liens entre une scène locale confirmée et des artistes d’envergure inter- nationale, entre ce qui se fait au Grand-Duché et ailleurs dans le monde, afin de stimuler la création artistique et offrir de nouvelles perspectives à un public varié, telle reste l’une des missions incombant à la Philharmonie et à laquelle nous continuerons à nous atteler. Je ne vais pas vous énumérer tous les grands noms que nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir à la Philharmonie – la liste est bien trop longue. Mais je désire toutefois insister sur le fait que bon nombre d’entre eux souhaitent revenir à Luxembourg, à la Philharmonie. Preuve qu’en très peu de temps, notre salle de concerts et son public ont réussi à s’établir aussi sur la scène musicale internationale. Tout cela serait bien entendu impossible sans le soutien de l’État luxembourgeois qui, en 2009, a contribué à hauteur d’environ 60% au budget de la Philharmonie. Cet engagement nous permet de rendre la musique, dans toute sa diversité, acces- sible au plus grand nombre. Vous aurez du mal à trouver à l’étranger le même niveau de qualité à des prix aussi abordables. Sans forfanterie, je crois donc pouvoir dire que les deniers publics ont été bien utilisés. La musique est et doit rester un vrai plaisir, non pas un luxe. Mais elle est aussi avant tout un langage commun que peuvent parler tous nos citoyens, et que tous 8 nos citoyens peuvent comprendre dès le plus jeune âge. Nous nous sommes dès le départ fortement engagés pour faire découvrir la musique aux plus jeunes, en consa- crant une large part de la programmation au jeune public. Plus de 125 concerts sont organisés annuellement à son attention, répartis en catégories d’âge. Comme je l’ai mentionné, l’accès à la musique ne peut pas être réservé à quelques privilégiés, et il ne peut en aucun cas être rendu impossible à cause de problèmes de santé, d’un handicap ou d’une origine sociale difficile. La Fondation EME – Écouter pour mieux s’Entendre a été créée pour donner cet accès à la musique à ceux qui jusque là en étaient privés. Grâce aux dons récoltés, des musiciens ont pu se rendre au centre pénitentiaire, dans des maisons de retraites et des unités de soins palliatifs et d’autres projets, tel «Blue», ont pu être organisés au sein même de la Philharmonie. La Philharmonie est devenue la salle de tous les Luxembourgeois, la salle de tous ceux qui habitent et travaillent au Luxembourg et de tous ceux qui viennent au Luxembourg pour découvrir toute la richesse culturelle de notre pays. Le conseil d’administration est fier de cette réussite, mais il est clair qu’il faut en attribuer le mérite à Matthias Naske et à son équipe compétente et très motivée. Qu’ils en soient remerciés! In den fünf Jahren ihres Bestehens hat sich die Philharmonie Luxembourg zu einer wahren Erfolgsgeschichte entwickelt. Die zahlreichen Gebäude europäischer Institutionen auf dem Kirchberg konnten durch ein architektonisches Meisterwerk ergänzt werden. Das Europaviertel erhielt so eine zusätzliche, eine kulturelle Dimension. Die Philharmonie wurde zu einem Ort der Begegnung.

    Dronescape 6.0 Dronescape 6.0 is the sixth in a series of albums, containing new Digital Symphonies by Oscar van Dillen. The work on this album was composed January-April 2021. Music, cover art, art and booklet of this album were created by Oscar van Dillen. Similar to the earlier Dronescape releases, this work can be considered to be an Electronic or Digital Symphony. This one-part work is called Oneirology, and it is the sixth Dronescape by Oscar van Dillen. Dronescape 6.0 is the first in a subseries, the solo version of the work, establishing a kind of dreaming space; the following releases will contain extended collaborative versions with additional musicians, adding new original layers of music and meaning to this work. Dronescape The title Dronescape suggests the contraction of the terms Drone and Soundscape, inferring a music which might at first sight be mistaken for ambient only. But not at a hearing: there is mostly a friendly and pleasant surface character to most compositions, but careful listening will reveal less obvious details and sounds, sometimes surprising, at other times perhaps disturbing. In music, a drone (or bourdon) is understood to be a continuous sound, interval or chord, usually an accompaniment to a modal structure (melodic music based on a particular scale). Special instruments exist, dedicated to playing the drone only, such as the tanpura and the swar peti from India. Instruments are found all over the world that include drones within the melodic instruments themselves, such as the taraf strings on many Asian string instruments, but also the drone pipes next to the chanter in bagpipes, or the hurdy gurdy, and its predecessor the organistrum with their drone strings.

    Dronescape 1 Dronescape 1 is the first in a series of albums, containing new, digitally created, compositions by Oscar van Dillen. The works on this album were composed June-July 2020. All works and cover art of this album were created by Oscar van Dillen. Dronescape The title Dronescape suggests the contraction of the terms Drone and Soundscape, inferring a music which might at first sight be mistaken for ambient only. But not at a hearing: there is mostly a friendly and pleasant surface character to most compositions, but careful listening will reveal less obvious details and sounds, sometimes surprising, at other times perhaps disturbing. In music, a drone (or bourdon) is understood to be a continuous sound, interval or chord, usually an accompaniment to a modal structure (melodic music based on a particular scale). Special instruments exist, dedicated to playing the drone only, such as the tanpura and the swar peti from India. Instruments are found all over the world that include drones within the melodic instruments themselves, such as the taraf strings on many Asian string instruments, but also the drone pipes next to the chanter in bagpipes, or the hurdy gurdy, and its predecessor the organistrum with their drone strings. Aboriginal didgeridoo music can be considered to consist purely of a rhythmized drone. Traditionally, drones with their sustained pitches are used as a harmonic support to the melodic music performed. In the Dronescapes by van Dillen the music itself has become rhythmized drone and soundscape at the same time, foregoing the traditional compositional hierarchies of theme and accompaniment, by using the following musical elements, in order of prominence: 1.
