According to reports from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received reports of a stabbing victim behind the Redwood Oil Station in Covelo at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputies responded and found a 46- year-old Covelo man, suffering from stab wounds to the neck, head and legs. The victim, whose name was not released by police because the case may be gang related, told sheriff’s deputies he had been stabbed by Britton Leonard Azbill Jr., 26, of Covelo, according to sheriff’s reports. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Lt. Rusty Noe said the Sheriff’s Office was not sure what led up the fight but said it appeared the two men may have been drinking and that they may have gotten into an argument before the alleged attack occurred. The victim was treated for his injuries by personnel from the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department and then transported by ambulance to Howard Hospital for treatment. Parra appeared in 142 games in 2018 but started only 97 of them as a platoon outfielder, primarily in left field. He hit .284/.342/.372 in the final year of a three-year, $27.5 million contract inked prior to the 2016 season. The two-time National League Gold Glove Award winner lost playing time toward the end of the regular season when David Dahl returned from injury and Matt Holliday made his return to Colorado in August. The left-handed-hitting Parra, 31, struggled to live up to expectations in his first year with Colorado in 2016, hitting .253 with a .671 OPS, but he rebounded in '17 with career highs in average (.309) and RBIs (71). He spent the first five-plus seasons of his 10-year career with the D-backs before brief stints with Milwaukee and Baltimore prior to his arrival in Denver. Still, the Rockies will entertain the idea of agreeing to a less expensive deal with Parra, who showed value as a pinch- hitter this season by batting .393/.433/.536 with one homer, one double and two walks in 30 plate appearances. Franchise mainstay Carlos Gonzalez and Holliday are also free agents again for the Rockies. Colorado has two starting outfield positions locked up for 2019 between Dahl and three-time All-Star Charlie Blackmon, who in April was extended through the '21 season with player options for '22 and '23.

Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. When Harry Lillis Crosby was born, on May 3, 1903, to a working-class Catholic Irish- Anglo family with deep roots in the American Northwest, there was little reason to think he would amount to much. Though an obviously intelligent and conscientious student, his primary interests were sports (he won many swimming medals), school plays, and music–he played drums (not very well), sang, and whistled. BOB GEREN 17 MANAGER FRONT OFFICE Robert Peter Geren Named A’s bullpen coach, November 13, 2002 Named A’s manager, November 17, 2006 Birthdate: September 22, 1961 Opening Day Age: 47 Birthplace/Resides: San Diego, CA / Danville, CA 2009 ATHLETICS Bob Geren returns for his third season as the A’s manager in 2009. He was named the 28th manager in franchise history and the 17th in Oakland history on November 17, 2006. Geren guided the A’s to a 75-86 record last year after compiling a 76-86 record in his first season as manager in 2007. After employing an Oakland-record 54 players and tying the club record by using the disabled list 22 times in 2007, the A’s utilized 51 players in 2008 and set a new Oakland record by using the DL 25 times in 2008. Geren’s two-year major league managerial record now stands at 151-172. Geren has been a member of the A’s coaching staff for the last six seasons, REVIEW serving as the club’s bench coach in 2006 after spending the previous three seasons as bullpen coach. He joined the A’s organization in 1999 as manager of Single-A Modesto and spent the next three seasons (2000-02) at the helm of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. He also managed in the Boston Red Sox farm system for three seasons, guiding Utica of the New York-Penn League in 1995, the Red Sox Gulf Coast League team in 1996 and Sarasota of the Florida State League in 1998.
