O’Malley () again in another hit fi lm, Going My Way, from the World War II era. Actually, this movie, made in 1944, preceded our earlier feature, Th e Bells of St. Mary’s. Youthful Father Chuck O’Malley led a colorful life of sports, song, and romance before joining the Roman Catholic clergy, but his level gaze and twinkling eyes make it clear that he knows he made the right choice. After joining a parish, O’Malley’s worldly knowledge helps him connect with a gang of kids looking for direction and handle the business details of the church-building fund, winning over his aging, conventional superior, Father Fitzgibbon, played by the fi ne Irish character actor, .

Church of Saint Mary | 16 Respect Life Committee Memorial Day 2015

St. Mary’s Respect Life Committee asks that you join them in prayer for those who have given their lives – paid the ultimate sacrifi ce – that we might have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

PRAYER FOR MEMORIAL DAY

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Genocide Warning: Nearly 3 years after Christian Solidarity International fi rst issued a genocide warning for the Islamic Middle East and called on our leaders to act, religious minorities in Iraq are facing imminent annihilation... Nun Initially Denied U.S. visa: An Iraqi Dominican nun, known for her advocacy of religious minorities in the Middle East, was initially prevented from telling Congress her story about terror and persecution under the Islamic State when her visa application to join a delegation to U.S. was denied by the State Department. (washingtontimes.com, 4/30/15)

Under pressure from religious freedom advocates, the State Department reversed their controversial decision and Sr. Momeka fi nally addressed Congress on May 13.
