He will be sincerely missed here at Texas Tech, and we wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

Marsha Sharp, Texas Tech Retired Women’s Basketball Coach & 1993 National Champion in WBB “All of us at Texas Tech will hate to lose Joe Parker, but we couldn’t be more excited for him and this new opportu- nity. Joe is a man of solutions. He is thoughtful, fair and a good listener and that approach allows him to discover solutions. Joe will do a great job as the athletics director at Colorado State.”

Jeff Long, Former Vice Chancellor & Director of Athletics, University of Arkansas “Joe Parker is an outstanding athletics administrator. He possesses the experience, intelligence and concern for the student-athlete that are vital to successfully lead an FBS intercollegiate program today. Having worked at some of the finest academic and athletic institutions, Joe is exceedingly prepared to lead Colorado State University.”

Joe Castiglione, Vice President & Director of Athletics, University of Oklahoma “I’ve had the great fortune to have first-hand experience working with Joe Parker as part of our athletic program here at Oklahoma and closely following his continued growth in our industry. From his background as a student-athlete to his accomplishments as an administrator, it’s really exciting to see a real life example of preparation meeting opportunity. This is a true success story. Colorado State University has hired a dynamic leader with great skills and impeccable integrity who will build great relationships with stakeholders and collectively create a wonderful environ- ment for student-athlete achievement in the classroom and their athletic endeavors. He has an appreciation, a sensitivity and an understanding of intercollegiate athletics through his career as a student-athlete swimming for the University of Michigan, and then as an athletic administrator. Joe played a key role in the success- ful renovation of Michigan Stadium, overseeing the design and marketing of all the premium seating. His integrity, his knowledge, his passion, his leadership skills and his personality combined to make him an effective team leader. Joe was the ‘go-to’ individual for so many on our staff and for me personally; he was a trusted confidante who helped lead our department in every role he was asked to take on.”

Chris Del Conte, Athletics Director, University of Texas “CSU today hired the perfect person to lead this program. Joe has had many opportunities to be an athletic director. I can’t think of anyone more prepared than Joe for this opportunity. During his stops at Washington State, Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma and Texas Tech, he has not only led as a visionary for building facilities but acquired the knowl- edge necessary to lead this program in today’s environment.”

DeLoss Dodds, Retired Athletics Director, University of Texas “Joe did a terrific job at the University of Texas. He is bright, he is people-friendly. He’s got great experience at sev- eral different places, and is knowledgeable about the business. Joe has a great family and a terrific wife. Bobo guided several talented quarterbacks at Georgia, includ- ing , who played from 2010-13. Murray, who was cho- sen in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the , set more than 25 UGA records and four SEC marks. He became the first player in SEC history to have at least 3,000 pass- ing yards in four consecutive seasons. The NFL’s No. 1 draft choice in 2009, , also blossomed under Bobo’s tutelage. The ’ starting quarterback was second-team All-SEC and earned All-America recognition in 2008 for Georgia and was MVP of the 2009 Capital One Bowl. In Bobo’s time at Georgia he also mentored quarterback David Greene (2001-04), who was the winningest quarterback in NCAA Division I history at the time (42), A.J. Green, running back Todd Gurley and many others. In all, Bobo helped mold four first-round NFL draft choices at Georgia: Stafford (No. 1 in 2009), running back Knowshon Moreno (No. 12 in 2009), Green (No. 4 in 2011) and Gurley (No. 10 in 2015). Prior to joining Richt’s staff in Georgia, Bobo served one year as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State, after working as an ad- ministrative assistant and graduate assistant from 1998-99 at UGA. Bobo was a quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1994-97, earning four letters, and led the team in passing in 1996 and ‘97. Among all UGA quarterbacks, Bobo ranks first in single-season completion percentage (65% in ‘97), single-season passing efficiency rating (155.8 in ‘97), second in career passes (38) and third in career pass completions (445), season passing yards (2,751 in ‘97), career passing yards (6,334) and single-season touchdown passes (19). In his career Bobo threw for 6,334 yards, which is third-most all-time by a Georgia quarterback. Bobo, a native of Thomasville, Ga., was inducted into the Thomasville-Thomas County Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 10, 2016. He joined his father, George, a long-time successful high school coach in Georgia, who was inducted in 2013. Bobo and his wife, Lainie, have five children, a son Drew (14); triplets Olivia, Jake and Ava Grace (12); and Kate (10).

Chase Gibson enters his first season as the special teams coordinator and line- backers coach at Colorado State in 2018. Gibson comes to CSU from Eastern Kentucky, where he had served as lineback- ers coach since January of 2016. In his first season at Eastern Kentucky, Gibson helped guide a defense that allowed fewer passing yards than any EKU team since 2009 and fewer passing touchdowns (12) than any Colonel defense since 2005 (9). Under his guidance, linebacker Jeffrey Canady totaled 17 tackles in a game on two occasions, tied for the 18th most by an FCS player in 2016. Canady also finished sev- enth in the nation with 11.2 tackles per game and was a third-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection by Phil Steele. Prior to his time at EKU, Gibson served as a quality control/assistant secondary coach at Tennessee with CSU defensive coordinator John Jancek, where the duo led the Volunteers to a 9-4 record in 2015 and sec- ond-place finish in the East Division. He also worked with Jancek at Cincinnati in 2012, where he was a graduate assistant working with linebackers. Gibson also spent two seasons (2010-11) in the Ohio Valley Conference at Tennessee-Martin, where he coached linebackers and over- saw strength and conditioning CAREER BACKGROUND with the Skyhawks. BRYAN APPLEWHITE Recruiting Coordinator/Running Backs | 4th Year at CSU | 20th Year Coaching

Bryan Applewhite is in his fourth year at Colorado State in 2018, and his 20th season in coaching, having joined the program as running backs coach on Jan. 3, 2015. He was promoted to add the title of recruiting coordinator to his re- sponsibilities in February 2018. Applewhite previously spent five seasons at the University of Louisiana Monroe, and his arrival in Fort Collins marked a return to his home state of Colorado. In his three seasons at CSU the Rams have posted two of the top five scoring marks in school history (3rd—35.3 in 2016 and 5th—33.4 in 2017) and two of the top four marks for total offense, including a school-record 492.5 yards per game in 2017 (also 4th, 462.5 in 2016). The 2017 Rams also set school records for first downs per game (25.5) and third-down conversions (50.3%). Senior Dalyn Dawkins earned second-team All-Mountain West honors in 2017 with 1,399 yards (fifth on CSU’s single-season list) and finished his career third on CSU’s all-time rushing list (3,185). Under Applewhite’s guidance Izzy Matthews has accumulated nearly 2,000 rushing yards (1,937) in his first three seasons and is tied for fifth all-time at CSU with 26 rushing touchdowns. In 2016 Applewhite guided a successful trio of Rams running backs to an average of 217.8 yards per game to rank in the top quartile in the country (31st). Dawkins (a junior), Matthews (a sophomore) and true freshman Marvin Kinsey, Jr., each rushed for more than 500 yards and logged at least 90 carries, with each crossing the 100-yard mark in the same game on one occasion (vs. New Mexico, 11/19). In that contest, CSU totaled 412 rushing yards, the most in 15 seasons and the 8th-best mark in school history. Overall, CSU’s 2,831 net rushing yards and 5.3 yards-per-carry average ranked fifth and second, respectively, in school history. Applewhite’s running backs also helped the Rams allow just 1.0 sack per game, eighth-fewest in FBS, and just one total in the final six games of the season. The Rams in 2015 boasted the nation’s 33rd-ranked rushing attack, and for the first time since 1997 at CSU featured two 700-yard running backs (Dawkins and Jason Oden, Jr.) CAREER BACKGROUND and for the first time since 1977 featured Seasons Team/School...... Alvis Whitted, who played nine seasons in the NFL, is in his seventh season as wide receivers coach at Colorado State in 2018. He originally joined the CSU coaching staff in 2012 and was retained by head coach Mike Bobo in January 2015. In his six seasons coaching at Colorado State, Whitted has mentored two con- sensus first-team All-Americans who also were finalists for the prestigious Bilet- nikoff Award: (2017) and (2014). Whitted’s star pupil had a season for the ages in 2017, as Gallup, a senior, be- came just the fourth consensus All-American in CSU history and was named a Biletnikoff Award finalist. His school-record 100 receptions ranked third in FBS, while his 1,413 receiving yards--second in school history behind Higgins’ 1,750 in 2014--ranked fifth. In Whitted’s tenure at Colorado State, Gallup and Higgins have posted three of the top four single-season marks in school history for receptions and receiving yards. While Gallup set records and earned accolades, two other Rams excelled under Whitted’s guidance in 2017, as junior Olabisi Johnson (41-595-14.5, 2 TDs) and senior Detrich Clark (41-504-12.3, 6 TDs) combined for 82 receptions, 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns. The Rams ranked 11th in FBS in total offense with a school-record 492.5 yards per game, and also set school records for first downs (25.5) and third-down conversions (50.3%). Gallup caught 76 passes for 1,272 yards and 14 touchdowns—each a top-3 total in school history at that time—and ranked 8th in FBS in scoring receptions and top 15 in recep- tions and receiving yards. Johnson, as a sophomore, broke the CSU single-game receiving record in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl with 265 yards on seven receptions again Idaho (12/22/16). Whitted played a key role in the recruitment and development of 2014 consensus first-team All-American Rashard Higgins, the Rams’ all-time leading receiver, who was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, as well as Joe Hansley, who signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders. Hansley finished his CSU career ranked 10th all-time in receiving yards (1,873), playing all four years under Whitted’s tutelage. The Rams’ receiving corps in 2015 was instrumental in helping first-year starting quarterback Nick Ste- vens to set CSU sophomore passing records and earn second-team All-Mountain West honors. Higgins was named first-team All-MW, catching 75 passes for 1,062 yards (14.2) and eight touchdowns, and Hansley was first-team All-MW by Phil Steele with 28 receptions for 415 yards (14.8) and six touchdowns. As a true sophomore in 2014, Higgins was named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award while leading the na- tion in receiving yards (1,750) and receiving touchdowns (17) with his school-record 96 receptions. The first- team All-Mountain West wide receiver recorded a school-record 10 games with 100 or more yards in 2014. The Rams’ wide receiver corps was outstanding in 2014, as Hansley (35-540-15.4, 2 TDs), redshirt fresh- man Xavier Williams (30-430-14.3, 3 TDs) and senior Charles Lovett (28-490-17.5, 3 TDs) provided danger- ous targets for MW Offensive Player of the Year Garrett Grayson. Whitted in 2013 helped develop one of the most improved position groups on the Rams’ roster. Under his tutelage Higgins set a CSU freshman receiving record with a team-high 68 catches for 837 yards and six touchdowns. Higgins’ 68 receptions ranked sixth by all players on CSU’s all-time single-season receptions list. As a sophomore Hansley also blossomed in his second season under Whitted, catching a career-high 52 passes for 613 yards and one touchdown. In his first season at Colorado State, Whitted guided Lovett, then a sophomore, and senior Marquise Law to the best years of their careers. Lovett led the team with 35 receptions for 428 yards (12.2) and two touchdowns, while Law capped his collegiate career with 29 catches for 287 yards (13.3) and two scores, catching passes from three different starting quarterbacks because of injuries at the position. Whitted (pronounced WHITT-id) came to Fort Collins in February 2012 after a brief stay at Appalachian State, following a year as offensive quality-control assistant on ’s UCLA staff in 2011. At UCLA, Whitted worked with wide receivers and special teams, and helped prepare the offense for games by heading the defensive scout team. Before moving to Pasadena, Whitted spent the 2010 season at Division III Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., as wide receivers coach. There, he began to launch recruiting ties throughout the Southeastern U.S., and coached senior Michael Galatas, a first-team all-conference selection and the league Special Teams Player of the Year. One of Colorado State’s most passionate individuals, Tom Ehlers is in his 34th overall season in the Rams athletic department in 2018, and his 38th year in college athletics. After a long career as a Rams student-athlete and assistant football coach, Ehlers took on a new role prior to the 2005 season, assuming supervision over the football program’s logistics, administration and overall operations. Originally a competitor on the gridiron as a four-year starter on the Rams’ offen- sive and defensive lines, he began a new career after his playing career, channeling his gregarious enthusiasm into the coaching profession. And now, including his chapter as director of operations, his tenure as a member of the football staff is the longest by an assistant in school history. During his coaching career, he tutored 12 all-conference performers, including Bryan Save (2003), Peter Hogan (2001, ’02), Clark Haggans (1999), Joey Porter (1998), Adrian Ross (1997), Brady Smith (1994, ’95), Sean Moran (1994, ’95), Steve Norton (1993), and Steve Hodge (1993). Six of the players he formerly coached ranked in the top 10 in quarterback sacks, including Haggans (first), Smith (second), Porter (fourth), Hodge (tie, seventh), Ross (tie, seventh), and Moran (ninth). In 2003, defensive tackles Bryan Save, Lavell Mann and Chris Kiffin all ranked among the conference leaders in quarterback sacks. In 2002, Peter Hogan was a first-team all-conference selection. Porter, a former NFL star, was a first-team all-conference performer in 1998 and played in two postseason all-star games before finishing his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2012. In 2013 Porter began a coaching ca- reer as an undergraduate assistant at CSU, and in 2014 was hired by the . Porter earned All- Pro honors and won a in 2005 as a member of the Steelers, and also played for the . Ross was a two-time first-team all-conference selection in 1996 and ’97 and played in the Hula Bowl following his senior season. He later played six years in the NFL as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Smith and Moran each earned first-team honors in 1994 and ’95. Smith was the conference’s defensive player of the year in 1995. Both played extensively in the NFL. Haggans initially played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was a member of the team’s Super Bowl championship team before signing with Arizona, which went to the Super Bowl in his first season there, and then San Francisco, with whom he went to another Super Bowl in 2012. Ehlers also was responsible for recruiting Gartrell Johnson, who finished his CSU career with the second-most prolific rushing season in program annals. Ehlers formerly served as a defensive line coach at Oregon State (1985-86) as a graduate assistant for the Beavers. In 1987, he was a graduate assistant working with the defen- sive line at the University of Arizona. As a player at CSU (1980-84), Ehlers was a four-year starter and letterwinner. He played offensive line and defensive line and was a WAC Scholar-Athlete Award Winner in 1984. On three occasions, he earned Academic All-WAC honors.
