Changes in vegetation structure can alter the physical habitat structure, thermal environment, and food available to arthropods, which play an important role in the structure and functioning of Arctic ecosystems. Not only do they provide key ecosystem services such as pollination and nutrient cycling, they are an essential food source for migratory birds. In this study I examined the relationships between the abundance, diversity, and community composition of arthropods and the height and cover of several shrub species across a tundra-shrub gradient in northwestern Alaska. To characterize nestling diet of common passerines that occupy this gradient, I used next-generation sequencing of fecal matter. Willow cover was strongly and consistently associated with abundance and biomass of arthropods and significant shifts in arthropod community composition and diversity. -

Ministry of Agriculture, Dokki, Giza, Egypt ABSTRACT Laboratory studies of Thanatus formicinus (Clerck) with feeding on Psammotermes hybostoma termites proved that the developmental period of spiderlings varied with sex and between siblings. Females lived longer periods and consumed larger number of prey compared with males. The incubation period of eggs ranged between 9-15 days. The eggs hatchability recorded 73.4 % of the total deposited eggs. Each ootheca contained 25-40 eggs with a mean of 31.6 eggs. Mean number of eggs /female was ranging 189-253 eggs. Spiderlings females consumed a total prey average of 383.6 prey and 349.9 prey for spiderlings males. The mean number of prey consumed by females adult was 936.9 prey / female and 715.4 prey for males adult. Food consumption throughout the period of life span was 1320.5 prey for females and 1065.3 prey for males. -

180 entomologische berichten 74 (5) 2014 Een nieuwe renspin voor Nederland: Philodromus fuscomarginatus (Araneae: Philodromidae) Marc de Winkel Jinze Noordijk TREFWOORDEN Boomstammen, faunistiek, hogere zandgronden, Pinus sylvestris Entomologische Berichten 74 (5): 180-186 Sinds 2010 verschijnen er op internet foto’s van Philodromus fusco- marginatus uit het oosten van Nederland. Deze renspin was nog niet voor onze fauna bekend. In 2013 en 2014 werden op enkele vindplaatsen individuen verzameld om onder te brengen in de collectie van Naturalis Biodiversity Center en zo de soort adequaat te documenteren voor ons land. In dit artikel bespreken we de determinatie, het areaal, de biotoop en de leefwijze van deze spin. Philodromus fuscomarginatus is nu bekend uit de omgeving van Ommen, de Sallandse Heuvelrug, Twente en de zuidelijke Veluwe en leeft in bosranden en open bossen op door de zon beschenen boomstammen van grove den. Het lichaam is hier perfect aan aangepast, omdat zowel de oranje als grijze kleur kan zorgen voor een goede camouflage op de stam. Bovendien is het lichaam erg afgeplat, zodat de spin zich kan verschuilen achter loszittende schors en in spleten. Op de stam en onder de schors wordt gejaagd op kleine prooidieren. Jonge spinnen komen in de zomer uit het ei en zijn in het (vroege) voorjaar van het jaar erop volwassen. Inleiding vrouwtjes bruin tot feloranje blijven (figuur 1-2). De spinnen zijn Philodromus fuscomarginatus (De Geer) is een renspin met een vrij vrij egaal van kleur, met soms vage bruine banden op de poten, groot areaal dat zich uitspreidt van West-Europa tot in Rusland, twee vage lengtestrepen op het achterlijf en een donkerder maar was nog niet uit Nederland bekend (Platnick 2014, Van rand aan het uiteinde van het achterlijf. -
