    City of Kinston, North Carolina Office of the Mayor The Honorable BJ Murphy BJ Murphy was sworn in as Mayor of the City of Kinston in December 2009 making him Kinston’s youngest Mayor at age 29. In 2013, he was elected to his second, four-year term. He graduated from Kinston High School in 1998, attended Lenoir Community College for his freshman year, and transferred to East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2002. Mayor Murphy has managed a casual dining restaurant, served as the downtown revitalization director, was VP of Operations for several Allstate and ERA Realty franchises, became a Business to Business Certification Trainer with LegalShield, and today he owns a social media marketing firm called Magic Mile Media. During his time as Mayor of Kinston, he’s led the community through two major hurricanes, Irene and Matthew. In the past eight years Kinston has become known for the nationally known eatery, Chef & The Farmer, and a local brewery called Mother Earth. Kinston is becoming widely acclaimed for its arts and small business Renaissance in the downtown area and is now home to the Texas Rangers Single A affiliate, Down East Wood Ducks. Mayor Murphy serves on the NCWorks Commission, North Carolina Leadership Forum, Lenoir County Committee of 100, Lenoir County Transportation Commission and more. Held at the Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory, it introduces children, mostly pre-school Aug. 1 and elementary school age, to farm animals, farm Blacklands Farm Managers Tour, equipment and agriculture. It is a popular event, this Washington Cty. year hosting over 8,000 visitors. Aug. 5 Rogers educated kids about farmers and farming at Ag Day at Carolina Mudcats, two events at Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Laura Rogers and friends at Farm Zebulon Raleigh, where the NCSPA also has an exhibit about Animals Days at N.C.
