In September 2012 the Coalition Government set up the Airports Commission to examine the scale and timing of any requirement for additional capacity to maintain the UK's position as Europe's most important aviation hub, and identify and evaluate how any need for additional capacity should be met in the short, medium and long term. 2. Sir Howard Davies was appointed to chair the Commission, which was required to produce: • an Interim Report by the end of 2013, assessing the evidence on the nature, scale, and timing of steps needed to maintain the UK’s status as an international hub for aviation; and to make recommendations for the better use of current runway capacity consistent with credible long term options; and • a Final Report by summer 2015, giving its assessment of the options for meeting the UK's international connectivity needs, including their economic, social and environmental impact; its recommendations for the optimum approach to meeting any needs; and its recommendations for ensuring that the need is met as expeditiously as practicable within the required timescale. 3. The Commission’s Final Report was published in July 2015. It was a substantial piece of work that took nearly three years to complete. Given the scale of the exercise undertaken by the Commission, the body of evidence and analysis produced is an important contribution to the Government's considerations in respect of future airport capacity in the UK. However it is necessary for the Department to review the appropriateness of the Airports Commission's evidence base and of its assessment of that evidence base to inform any Government decision on how to proceed, and to identify whether any areas of that work may need to be assessed by the Government in further detail. -
Extensions of the TEN-T Core Network Corridors by Country: A
Connecting Europe Facility – Annex I (Transport) Extension of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) With the CEF Regulation (Annex I), the Commission proposes to adapt the Trans-European core network corridor - to ensure better connectivity of core ports and cross-border projects. The extension reflects progress already made in developing the TEN-T core network, the corridor work plans of the European Coordinators and in-depth consultations with Member States. Moreover, the Commission proposes to simplify the list of pre-identified sections for each of the corridors. There will be a clear focus on cross-border sections, in line with a higher co-funding rate as proposed in the Regulation. Next to the core network, the Commission proposes to complement the development of the infrastructure with sections of the comprehensive networks in specific cases: cross-border links, including with third countries. The list of pre-identified comprehensive sections is included in Annex I. Extensions of the TEN-T core network corridors by country: a. Finland: the corridor network in Finland so far extends to only around 40% of the rail core network. Proposed extension of the North-Sea Baltic Corridor will connect the Finnish rail network with the Swedish core port of Luleå. The latter is currently not included in the corridor network. The proposed extension anticipates growing importance of the Arctic policy. b. Sweden: the corridor network in Sweden so far extends to only around 40% of the rail core network. The proposed extension of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor will connect with the Swedish core ports of Luleå in Sweden and Narvik in Norway. -

TRENDS IN AIRPORT SURFACE ACCESS IN THE LONDON MULTI-AIRPORT SYSTEM Richard Moxon1 Cranfield University Abstract The London multi-airport system is described and changes in ownership from state organisations to competing private enterprises are assessed. A taxonomy of United Kingdom government action related to airport planning policy is presented with critical analysis in relation to airport surface access strategy. Changes in public transport use by passengers and employees at London airports are quantified to illustrate the success or otherwise of government policy. Passenger groups (defined by nationality and trip purpose) driving the increase in public transport are identified. Current London airport surface access strategic targets for passengers and employees are compared with the early versions suggested by the government to highlight the changed airport approach. Emerging surface airport access issues at London’s airports are discussed. INTRODUCTION London has moved from four government (national and local) owned airports before 1986 to the current market of six competing private enterprises designated as serving the capital. In parallel with this (since 1998) the United Kingdom government has chosen to publicise a variety of reports, guidance and policy relating to airport surface access. The regularity and detail of such publications has varied and they have not been mandatory in composition. In the last decade of numerous airport ownership changes in London, published research has not tracked the nature or the impact of government attempts to influence the move from private to public transport by airport employees and staff in the London multi-airport system. -

[email protected] Abstract. This article talks about segmentation of air transport market in the Slovak Republic. The main goal was to explore all regular flights from three International airports in Slovak Republic. The researched airports include M.R. Štefánik in Bratislava, Košice International Airport and Poprad - Tatry Airport. The reason for the selection of airports was focused on scheduled flights. The main output of the work is a graphical representation of scheduled flights operated from the territory of the Slovak Republic. The work includes an overview of airlines, destinations, attractions, and other useful information that has come up with this work. Keywords: Airport; segmentation; scheduled flights 1. INTRODUCTION The main aim of this article is to point out the coverage of the air transport market from the territory of the Slovak Republic. Initial information was processed for three International airports and their regular flights to different parts of the world. We chose M.R. Stefanik in Bratislava, Kosice International Airport and Poprad - Tatry Airport. In practical part the authors collected all regular flights from the airports and processed them in table form. All these lines were needed to develop a comprehensive graphical model which is also the main output. The graphical model clearly shows where it can be reached from the territory of the Slovak Republic by a direct route. All data is current for the 2018/2019 Winter Timetable with all the current changes, whether in terms of line cancellation or adding new carriers to new destinations. -
