Love, Love, Peace, Peace. 2016) RESUMO O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de estudar a participação da mídia nos processos políticos internacionais. O interesse da pesquisa está em mapear e descrever a participação do Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), enquanto ator midiático global, no conflito entre Armênia e Azerbaijão pela região autônoma de Nagorno Karabakh, realizado de 1991 a 1994, suspenso após um armistício e que vitimou mais de 16 mil pessoas. Este trabalho tem como objetivo geral compreender a reprodução simbólica de conflitos armados e diplomáticos dentro da esfera midiática, através da análise do discurso construtivista. Como objetivos específicos, o trabalho propõe-se a identificar e descrever a reprodução do conflito de Nagorno Karabakh no ESC, debater a influência da mídia na política externa, discutir a importância do Eurovision como soft power nas Relações Internacionais da Europa, discutir a construção ideológica nas campanhas de Armênia e Azerbaijão dentro do ESC e observar de que maneira a mídia consegue reproduzir conflitos armados dentro de sua própria esfera. O corpus é formado por duas frentes de análise, a saber: 1) análise do discurso construtivista dos conteúdos apresentados por Armênia e Azerbaijão dentro da esfera do ESC (neste momento, o método analítico é composto pela AD2, a Análise de Discurso Construtivista); 2) análise dos votos dados no ESC entre Armênia e Azerbaijão, de 2008 a 2015, e as votações dadas pela Rússia, parceiro estratégico e apoiadora no conflito de ambos os Estados, às duas nações (para tal, será utilizado o Coeficiente Amigo-ou-Inimigo, de García e Tanase). Espera-se, ao final do processo analítico, observar de que forma e como é possível reproduzir simbolicamente este conflito armado dentro do ESC, além de contribuir com a discussão sobre a ligação entre mídia e política externa. Palavras-chave: Construtivismo; Análise do Discurso; Nagorno Karabakh; Eurovision Song Contest ABSTRACT This work intends to study the media involvement on international political processes. The interest of this research is to map and describe the participation of Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), while global media actor, in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan by the Autonomous Region of Nagorno Karabakh, held from 1991 to 1994, suspended after an armistice and killed over 16,000 people. This work have the objective to comprehend the symbolic reproduction of armed and diplomatic conflicts inside media field, through the analysis of constructivist discourse. The specific objectives are identify and describe the reproduction of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict inside ESC; discuss the media influence on foreign policy; discuss the importance of Eurovision Song Contest as soft power on International Relations of Europe; discuss an ideological construction inside the Eurovision’s campaigns of Armenia and Azerbaijan; and observe how media can reproduce armed conflicts inside its sphere. The corpus consists of two analytical fronts, namely: 1) constructivist discourse analysis of the content shown by Armenia and Azerbaijan within the ESC sphere; 2) analysis of the votes cast in ESC between Armenia and Azerbaijan, from 2008 to 2015, and votes given by Russia, a strategic partner and supporter in the conflict of the two states, to both nations. At the end of the analytical process, this work intends to observe how it is possible to reproduce symbolically this armed conflict inside Eurovision Song Contest and contributing to the discussion on the link between media and foreign policy. For more information, please contact us at [email protected] or visit our website at www.contemporarysee.org Introduction: Gender and Geopolitics in the Eurovision Song Contest Catherine Baker* Introduction From the vantage point of the early 1990s, when the end of the Cold War not only inspired the discourses of many Eurovision performances but created opportunities for the map of Eurovision participation itself to significantly expand in a short space of time, neither the scale of the contemporary Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) nor the extent to which a field of “Eurovision research” has developed in cultural studies and its related disciplines would have been recognisable. In 1993, when former Warsaw Pact states began to participate in Eurovision for the first time and Yugoslav successor states started to compete in their own right, the contest remained a one-night-per- year theatrical presentation staged in venues that accommodated, at most, a couple of thousand spectators and with points awarded by expert juries from each participating country. Between 1998 and 2004, Eurovision’s organisers, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and the national broadcasters responsible for hosting each edition of the contest expanded it into an ever grander spectacle: hosted in arenas before live audiences of 10,000 or more, with (from 2004) a semi-final system enabling every eligible country and broadcaster to participate each year, and with (between 1998 and 2008) points awarded almost entirely on the basis of telephone voting by audiences in each participating state.
