CONCERT II Prof. Laxmanrao K. Pandit Panditji is a renowned vocalist and teacher of Indian classical music. He is the fifth in an unbroken lineage of legendary musicians from the Gwalior Gharana. His father Padma Bhushan Pt Krishnarao Shankar Pandit trained Panditji since early childhood in khayal, tappa, tarana, ashtapadi and thumri. His strict classicism and refusal to compromise with what is popular has earned him his reputation as one of the true representatives of his gharana, or school. Panditji has an unparalleled style of singing. He follows the Gwalior gharana format faithfully, and develops ragas in the traditional Ashtaang gayaki, a systematic eight-fold elaboration of the raga. Panditji has been conferred with awards such as such as Tappa Samrat, Gayak Shiromani, Swar Vilas, Pt Omkarnath Thakur Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Communal Harmony Award and Ustad Hafiz Ali Award by the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Dec. 2001).
