I am writing to evqlocal agthority in Wales in the hope that they will consider donatirlg to our charity, Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal. Since our was formed in 1915, it is safe to say many Guardsmen have been from your district and today the Regiment has men serving who are local to you.

On our last operational tour to Afghanistan in 2009, we lost 7 men. It is their families who need our support. Then there are those who suffered life threatening injuries who are going to need long time care. Finally, there is the spectre of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which will manifest itself in countless others in the years ahead.

No government, no party can ever provide adequate pensions or care. If it did it would bankrupt the country - so it is to the local communities we turn to in the hope that they will support us.

We have created and "Arm and a Leg" club; a euphemism for a lot of money as well as, the needs for state of the art, prosthetic limbs. In themselves merely symbolic of all the other needs which must be addressed.

Chairman: Major G. White MBE Tel: 01639 731141 Treasurer: Mr Mike Skinner BEM Tel: 01639 680109 Registered Charity No. 1073109 If you donate £100.00, HisMer Worship the Mayor may wear our 'Arm and Leg' lapel pin on all functions they attend. However, if you felt inclined to donate £1,000.00 HisIHer Worship would wear a Welsh Guards 'Medal of Honour.' It has been especially struck by Mappin and Webb, Silversmiths to Her Majesty The Queen and H.R.H. Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. It is truly a beautiful piece. To the fiont it has an embossed leek, our Regimental , with the words, "Honour Our Soldiers". The clasp is blue maroon blue, the colours, while the outer rim will be discreetly etched with your council's name. We are casting just one hundred of each. The lapel pin or medal. As a registered charity your donation may be offset against your end of year tax return.

The Regiment returns to Afghanistan in the Spring of 2012 to complete another tour of duty. As sure as night follows day there will be more casualties and deaths so please look favourably at my request.

If your council's decision is a positive one, please make your cheque out to: Welsh Guards Rugb y1Afghanis tan Appeal.

Should you have any queries, do please contact me at your convenience,

Yours sincerely ' - --

WELSH GUARDS AFGHANISTAN APPEAL DINNER COMBINED WITH WELSH GUARDS BIENNIAL RUGBY DINNER

A Appeal President: General the Lord Guthne of Craigiebank GCB LVO OBE DL Vice Presidents: General Sir Redrnond Watt KCB KCVO CBE Garrison Sergeant Major W.D.G. Mott OBE Chairman: Brigadier P.R.G. Williams DL Rugby Chairman: Major G. White MBE Rugby and Appeal Secretary: Mr C.B. Welshmen serving under their Lord, the Black Prince in 1314 were identified by leeks in their hats. The traditional Welsh symbol was chosen for the Welsh Guards when it was raised on St. David's Day, March 1'' 1915, but the regiment was formed so quickly from volunteers already serving within the Household Brigade that on their first Kings Guard it was reported that only Grnmanding Officer - Lieutenant - Colonel Muii~y-Thrieplaidwore the new badge. Whether by coincidence or design no one is entirely sure, but when the leaves of the leek are counted, their total represents the number of Princes of Wales there have been. H.R.H. Prince Charles is represented by the still growing central leaf and the young shoot, H.R.H. Prince William, is in-waiting.

The Welsh Guards medal, "Honour our Soldiers" has been struck by Mappin and Webb, Silversmiths to Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It has been especially made to honour Welsh men and women who have been inordinately generous in their support of 1" Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal.

On receiving your medal, your certificate will read:

1'' Battalion Welsh Guards are pleased to award our Medal of Honour to ...... in recognition of hisher magnificent support of our Afghanistan Appeal.

Signed...... Colonel
