BGR Energy secured this contract in an International competitive bidding which witnessed stiff competition. The value of the contract is Rs.2,600 Crores' The contract completion period is 36 months from the date of award. The contract is for Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Fabrication, Assembly, Inspection, Testing, Transportation, Erection, Testing and commissioning of the Balance of Plant Mechanical, Electrical and Control & Instrumentation works including associated.civil works for establishment of Coal based 1x 800 MW North Chennai Supercritical Thermal Power Project Stage-III in the premises of existing NCTPS at Ennore & Puzhudhivakkam Village, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. The salient features of this expansion project includes a large coal handling system with 2 Nos. Shore Unloaders for unloading of coal from the 'shios. It also features the state-of-the-art 765 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear based substation. The contract provides for foreign exchange and statutory levies variations. BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT 1.0 INTRODUCTION: M/s General Mediterranean Holding through its subsidiary M/s. Chennai Power Generation Limited (CPGL) proposes to install a 2 x 515 MW Thermal Power plant to be fuelled by imported coal envisaged to be brought from Indonesia, Australia, etc. The proposed Plant will be located in Kattupalli and Kalanji villages at Ponneri Taluk, Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu state. The plant area will cover about 319 acres including ash pond area outside the CRZ area. Besides, 23 acres within CRZ area will be used as corridor for sea water and coal conveying. The project area is a typically plain coastal area with sandy soil and sparse vegetation. The general slope of the area is from Northwest to Southeast. The Bay of Bengal is near the eastern boundary of the site and the Buckingham canal is flowing in the west This site is a part of Survey of India Topo sheet No 66 C/7, lying approximately at Latitude 13⁰ 19’ 01.47” to 13⁰ 20’ 06.89” North and Longitude 80⁰ 19’ 37.2” - 80⁰ 20’41.43” East. The site is 4km north of Ennore Port, which is 22km north of Chennai. Chennai Airport is about 50 Km from the site. Athipattu is the nearest railhead.
