We have continued to build partnerhips across our borough and now work with over twenty schools. • Placements are available in Balham, Battersea, Earlsfield, Furzedown, Putney, Roehampton, Southfields, Tooting and Wandsworth. • All partner schools are dedicated to confronting inequality in education and strive to support all children overcome barriers to learning. Our trainees are selected because of their commitment to children's right to learn well-being. • Contrasting school placements enable trainees to gain experience of working with pupils from a diversity of backgrounds and with a range of needs. You leave the course feeling confident to teach in an inner-city school, • 'Leaders...demonstrate a strong commitment to this well-established partnership. They nurture a strong sense of loyalty and dedication to the SCITT among its current trainees and alumni, especially those who continue to work and take on leadership roles in the SCITT's schools.' (Ofsted, 2017) Support • Each year our small cohort size (20-30 trainees) enables us to provide a personalised learning experience for each trainee. Career changers, working parents and trainees with special educational needs are extremely well-supported through the programme. • Our dyslexia ambassador works with trainees to support practical and organisational skills that build confidence ahead of school-placement. • Ofsted (2017) notes that Wandsworth SCITT trainees 'rapidly build up a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience [enabling] them to be well-prepared, confident and professional NQTS. Employability • Our completion and employment rates are consistently higher than the national average. • All those seeking employment secure positions before course completion. • The majority of trainees take up first posts in Wandsworth. Facilities • We have a training suite on the first floor of St Mary's RC Primary School in Battersea. Well-positioned for a range of public transport, our training base is a great hub for all of the consortium schools. • With IT and library facilities on site, trainees can comfortably study here. All trainees are able to use Kingston University Library facilities and the Wandsworth Resecource centre. This includes a wide range of on-line resources. FAQs How long is a typical study day? •During the taught course you will be engaging in tutorials, lectures and workshops which run between 9am and 3.30pm each day. How long is a typical school day? •Expect to be on site between 8am to 5pm - although this varies between schools. Who leads on the taught course? •Experienced professionals including senior university lecturers, teachers from Wandsworth schools and Local Authority consultants. If I am offered a place, what are the terms and conditions? •Terms and Condiditons and set out in a Trainee Partnerhsp Agreement (avaialable on request). This must be signed at a pre-registration event held in June prior to the commencement of the course. •The recommendations for PGCE and QTS will be witheld from any trainee whol fails to honour all monetary debts or fails to return all equipment loaned to them by the WPSC or one of its consortium schools. •Withdrawal from the course: 100% of fees refunded when withdrawing on or before October. 50% of fees refunded between October and January . No refund for withdrawals after January. What support will I recieve to secure an NQT post? • We offer a range of support. This includes group 'mock interviews' with our consortium headteachers, support to write application forms and draft your supporting statement, and guidance on the interview process. •Throughout the course there are opportunities to visit a range of schools, other than your placement schools, and to meet headteachers and experienced staff when they deliver training. In this way you will become familiar with the 'personalities' of our local schools, the variety of approaches they deploy and you will quickly develop a clear view of the kind of school that's right for you. Primary PGCE General Primary Pathway (5-11years) Early Years Pathway (3-7 years) Take either of these pathways to QTS and you will be qualified to teach in any Primary School. Training is held jointly through the first term (Phase 1) followed by specialised training in the second term (Phase 2). Your main school placement will be within your specialist Key Stage in the the spring and summer term. You will also have the opportunity to teach in the alternate phase in the autumn term. This early placement will take place alongside a partner trainee in oder that you have a well-supported start to your teaching practice. Early Years Pathway General Primary Pathway Course Modules •This module focuses on developing your ability to teach, assess and undertake your professional responsibilities in your chosen phase of education. It is part based at the University, where lectures, seminars and online learning will provide you with research, theory and practice based insights into effective learning and teaching. It is largely based upon your practice in school and settings, where you receive formal training, experience of working alongside professionals, experience of being the lead MODULE1: PROFESSIONAL practitioner in a classroom/setting and experience of the wider aspects of PRACTICE being a teacher. Successful completion of this module, in combination with the academic level 7 modules will enable a recommendation for Early Years Teacher Status. •This module introduces you to reflective practice and the value and purpose of reflection for teachers. This will enable you to develop an understanding of how to identify issues and develop solutions in professional settings and schools. You will critically explore how children develop physically, socially and as learners. You will critically analyse the language and communication skills and understanding required to operate as an effective teacher. Through completion of a reflective journal during MODULE 2: THE REFLECTIVE the module you will develop critical, reflective practitioner skills to inform TEACHER peer and colleague discussion within a learning community to challenge and develop your teaching. •This module enables you to locate yourself as an emerging professional within wider discourses about teaching as a profession. It allows you to evaluate your own identity as a professional and reflect on the values that you and the wider profession hold. You will critically analyse discussions and debates which affect classroom practice. These debates will focus on specific areas to exemplify wider issues in education. The focus of these MODULE 3: PERSPECTIVES ON discussions will be on inclusive teaching and learning and the legislative POLICY, PRACTICE AND frameworks which provide codes of practice. A key focus of the module is PROFESSIONALISM FOR to develop your ability to make sense of education research and to apply TEACHERS this in the context of your school or setting.
