Fantastic Women Saturday 31 March at 19:00 Hollywood has long been criticised for under representing women both in front of and behind the camera, but now women are finally finding their voices and despite it having been a long uphill struggle there are some stellar female directors and role models on the scene. In this programme No6 is delighted to be screening a number of films which are either directed by women or star women in positive and prominent roles. No long the screaming victim in horror films they are also monsters and heroes. Jordan Peele has a young woman as a evil antagonist in ‘Get Out’, Hedy Lamarr is remembered in a film called ‘Bombshell’ directed by Alexandra Dean and our live streaming of Macbeth is directed by Polly Findlay. When women are seen as ambitious and high achieving individuals in the film world the more it inspires and motivates women to do the same both professionally and personally. So come and be impressed, inspired and proud of Lynne Ramsey’s ‘You Were Never Really Here’, Greta Gerwig’s ‘Lady Bird’, Kate McLarnon’s ‘Even When I Fall’, Clio Barnard’s ‘Dark River’, Blandine Lenoir’s ‘I Got Life’ and finally the not to be forgotten Meryl Streep in ‘The Post’.
