Scrublands Chris Hammer
AUGUST 2018 Scrublands Chris Hammer Set in a fictional Riverina town at the height of a devastating drought, Scrublands is one of the most powerful, compelling and original crime novels to be written in Australia. Sales points • Set to be one of the biggest debuts of 2018 • A riveting and stunning addition to a burgeoning genre - the Small-Town Secrets Crime Thriller • A brilliant mix of page-turning plot, unforgettable characters, and an evocation of the Australian landscape that makes you feel the heat and taste the dust. • Major marketing campaign and big author tour • CATEGORY: Crime fiction Description In an isolated country town brought to its knees by endless drought, a charismatic and dedicated young priest calmly opens fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners before being shot dead himself. A year later, troubled journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in Riversend to write a feature on the anniversary of the tragedy. But the stories he hears from the locals about the priest and incidents leading up to the shooting don't fit with the accepted version of events his own newspaper reported in an award-winning investigation. Martin can't ignore his doubts, nor the urgings of some locals to unearth the real reason behind the priest's deadly rampage. Just as Martin believes he is making headway, a shocking new development rocks the town, which becomes the biggest story in Australia. The media descends on Riversend and Martin is now the one in the spotlight. His reasons for investigating the shooting have suddenly become very personal. Wrestling with his own demons, Martin finds himself risking everything to discover a truth that becomes darker and more complex with every twist. -

Perspective Video Workshop
Perspective Video Workshop Learning Intentions: Young people will watch and observe elite athletes share personal experiences in both a sporting and non- sporting context. The facilitator will seek to highlight discussion points for participants so that they can reflect and recognise how these principles are applicable in everyday life. The goal is for the participants to understand, reflect and implement the relevant behaviours from the discussion in their school, sports team, work and wider community. Video topic focus Perspective Video Facilitation Workshop Goals To understand and foster healthy discussions based on the video content. To encourage change if needed in the participants and provide strategies to do this. Format • Play video • Discussion • Key messages summary • Strategies • Action plan challenge • Closing quote Play video Play the entire Perspective video (3.26 mins duration) Jerome Kaino Optional: Replay the Jerome Kaino section of the video (00:11–00:40 mins) (00:11–00:40 mins) Point 1: I learned the hard way. Coming through the grades for me it was all about rugby. Nothing else mattered but as I went through the years I realised that it is really important to have interests outside of rugby and focus outside of the game. Point 1 discussion question: Why do you think the player realised, as he got older, that it was really important to have interests outside of rugby? Facilitator notes Point 1: Having other interests gives you balance, so if anything happens in your rugby, like a serious injury, you don’t lose your whole world as you have other things to concentrate on. -

Rugby Player in the Region and and Members for Their Tireless Efforts
THE BulletinAPRIL 2013 The Magazine of the Nelson College Community 1 From the Acting Headmaster – Mr Tim Tucker The staff and students of the school have been busy in recent months. Even more gratifying is that the industry has been rewarded with many many fantastic results. It remains that the provision of high quality courses and the best possible education for our boys are our greatest priorities. The opening of the Gibbons Trade Education Centre is one example of the Old Boys, Community and College working together to provide the best for our boys. The Centre is a modern purpose-built facility which is providing students with the highest quality preparation for a career in their chosen trades area. I would like to acknowledge all the sponsors and supporters of this project but especially the Gibbons family. The family was personally involved in the project at all stages and willingly gave considerable time and resources to ensure the highest quality results. The Education Review Office visited the school in August 2012 to assess the quality of teaching and learning occurring at Nelson College. The ERO visit involves a great deal of investigative work from their team and extensive review of our courses and policies. Nelson College is one of only 15% of schools nationwide to receive the highest grade of review. The grade of review is measured by the length of time until the next visit – ours will be five years! Perhaps most importantly it is reassurance from the highest level that we are delivering high quality learning in a positive and motivating environment or as ERO put it, "students are highly engaged in learning" .. -
