YACHIYO ENGINEERING CO.,LTD GM JR 04-238 Intake at right bank Upstream Weir Gate Under Sluice gate at Right bank Intake at left bank Downstream Under Sluice gate PERSPECTIVE at Left bank THE PROJECT FOR REHABILITATION OF GATES OF TAUNSA BARRAGE IN ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN Summary Economy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan (Population 149,030 thousand, GNP 470 USD per Capita, in 2003) has been largely dependent on the agricultural sector with such dominant indexes of about 1/4 of GDP, about 1/2 of working population, etc. However, the agriculture sector is now in a very difficult and sensitive situation being subjected to problematic weather conditions affecting the area. The GDP of the country in 2000/01 came down due to severe drought that occurred in the country. Situation changed in 2003/2004 because the country’s GDP was 6.4 percent higher than the government objective figures of 5.3 percent due mainly to the favorable conditions of the manufacturing sector, as well as the recovery of the agricultural sector. However, economy of the country is still on the decline due to problems of debt repayment, and other medium and long-term problems such as delay of adequate privatization, stagnation of agricultural productivity, sluggish growth of export industry, etc. Major problems in the fields of irrigation and drainage are summarized in the issues of: a) shortage of water resources in accordance with population increase, b) lowering of irrigation efficiencies caused by the deterioration of provided irrigation systems, c) facility damages due to water-logging and salt, water contamination, lowering of ground-water table, flood, and; d) shortages of operation and maintenance (O&M) costs due to low recovery of water-charges, etc. -

The rapid change in global climate has given rise to many disasters that pose a severe threat to the human life, property and infrastructure. Disasters like floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, droughts, sediment disasters, avalanches, GLOFs, and cyclones with storm surges are some prominent manifestations of climate change phenomenon. Pakistan, which is ranked in the top ten countries that are the most vulnerable to climate change effects, started planning to safeguard and secure the life, land and property of its people in particular the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized. However, recurring disasters since 2005 have provided the required stimuli for accelerating the efforts towards capacity building of the responsible agencies, which include federal, provincial, district governments, community organizations, NGOs and individuals. Prior to 2005, the West Pakistan National Calamities Act of 1958 was the available legal remedy that regulated the maintenance and restoration of order in areas affected by calamities and relief against such calamities. -

Hydro-potential resources can play effective role in contributing towards energy security as well as energy independence of Pakistan. This research paper delineates hydro potential in Pakistan. At present, Pakistan is facing severe short fall of electric energy. A brief history and the present situation of the hydro-electricity production, its consumption in the country and importance of utilization of water resources for the production of electric power have been discussed. Predictions to solve energy crises are made on the basis of empirical data and preliminary observations. The root causes of the shortfall in energy generation, an estimated forecast of demand and generation of electricity for the next twenty years has also been predicted. The information was gathered using domestic and foreign open-source resources as well as other relevant analytical products and databases. This document presents a summary of real-world events associated with physical attacks on dams, hydroelectric generation facilities and other related infrastructure between 2001 and 2011. By providing an historical perspective and describing previous attacks, this product provides the reader with a deeper and broader understanding of potential adversarial actions against dams and related infrastructure, thus enhancing the ability of Dams Sector-Specific Agency (SSA) partners to identify, prepare, and protect against potential threats. The Makranaccretionary prism is located in the Northwestern part of the Indian Ocean, in South of Iran and Pakistan. South-east Iran is the site of a rare case of young transition between subduction and collision. The project aims to show future dredging operation and infrastructure development plans at the Oman Sea ports in order to assess the challenges concerning sediments, handling of dredged sediments and fulfillment of all the plans. Moreover, concentration of oxides and elements including SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, MnO, TiO2, B, Bi, As, Sr, Cr, Cu, Ni, Ba, and W in various types of sediments were determined separately. The result of geochemical studies of sediments and Putting together them with element distribution maps of bay show high concentration of some heavy elements like Cr, Sr, W, Zn, Bi, As and Cu in the margin of ShahidBeheshty and ShahidKalantari jetties in the most Southeastern part. This confirms the human activities as a main origin for the pollution.Results show a majority of the ports plan to do dredging in next 1-5 or 6-10 years with the aim of maintaining or increasing the water depth, construction works or expansion of the port area. -
