Manchester United FC - Chelsea FC MATCH PRESS KIT Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow Wednesday 21 May 2008 - 20.45CET Matchday 13 - Final Contents 1 - Match background 7 - UEFA information 2 - Match facts 8 - Match-by-match lineups 3 - Squad list 9 - Competition facts 4 - Head coach 10 - Team facts 5 - Match officials 11 - Competition information 6 - Domestic information 12 - Legend Match background Adversaries during an absorbing conclusion to the Premier League season, Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC will take their rivalry on to the biggest stage of all when they step out in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium for the first all-English UEFA Champions League final on 21 May. • United are aiming to inflict further heartache on Chelsea by claiming their third European Champion Clubs' Cup, having already pipped them to the Premier League title on the season's final day. By winning 2-0 at Wigan Athletic FC on 11 May United ensured they finished two points clear of Avram Grant's team, who began the day level on points but were held 1-1 at home by Bolton Wanderers FC. • A UEFA Champions League triumph this year, 50 years after the loss of eight of manager Sir Matt Busby's 'Babes' in the 1958 Munich air crash, would carry a particular emotional resonance for United, who were previously continental champions in 1968 and 1999. • Chelsea, by contrast, will hope the size of the prize at stake will inspire them to rise above their domestic disappointment and claim their first European Cup in what is their first final. If Moscow appears perhaps the perfect venue for the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea supporters may find another positive omen in the date of the final: it was on 21 May 1971 that the London side won their first European trophy, beating Real Madrid CF to claim the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

  • MANCHESTER UNITED FC V AC MILAN
First Knock-out Round First Leg Manchester 23 February 2005 MANCHESTER UNITED FC - AC MILAN OLD TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER WEDNESDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2005 at 19.45 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIRST KNOCK-OUT ROUND, FIRST LEG MANCHESTER UNITED FC v AC MILAN UEFA Champions League football returns to Old Trafford for the first time in 2005 with a thrilling clash between two former champions of Europe in one of the many ties that coiuld easily have been this season’s final. United fans will remember that their team produced epic performances against Italian opposition en route to the 1999 final, whereas AC Milan’s encounters with English opposition are surprisingly thin on the ground. They have played against English teams only three times in the last quarter of a century and have not met any English sides since they were drawn against both Chelsea FC and Leeds United AFC in the 2000/01 campaign. A thrilling and evenly-balanced tie is in prospect. This will be the third tie between the clubs in UEFA competitions with AC Milan successful on the previous two occasions, both in the Champion Clubs’ Cup semi-finals. Though Manchester United won both games at Old Trafford, the margin of AC Milan’s wins in Italy in the 1957/58 and 1968/69 seasons enabled them to progress. The clubs’ first meeting was the first European game after the Munich air crash, while the latter win eliminated the holders of the competition. In the 1957/58 tie, Paolo Maldini’s father Cesare took part in the game, and in 1968/69 Fabio Cudicini, father of the Chelsea FC player, was AC Milan’s keeper.

  • Moston Brook FC (History). the ‘Old Boys’ Are Born
Moston Brook FC (History). The ‘Old Boys’ are born. The idea of an ‘Old Boys’ Soccer Club was first brought about in 1969 by a group of teachers at ‘Moston Brook High School’ on Northampton Road. They applied for membership of the ‘Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League and had to play a number of friendlies against League opposition before being formally accepted for the season of 1970/71. They had a small Management Committee of Alan Manship (Chairman), John Wallis (Secretary), Tony Scott (Assistant Secretary), and Glynn Levis (Treasurer). Moston Brook High School Old Boys were born. Senior Section: The Club ran 2 teams in its first season in the League, a mixture of Teachers and Ex Pupils, all of whom purchased their own kit of White shirts and Black shorts. The next season saw them start with what is today our Club colours of Green and Black, when the Club purchased their first sets of Green and Black Striped shirts and introduced a 3rd XI. The first success came in 1975-76 when the 1st XI were Runners up in Division 3, which was followed in 1976-77 with our 3rd XI being Runners Up in Division E, scoring 92 goals in 20 games. The first Cup Final came in 1979-80 when the 1st XI were Runners Up in the ‘Whitehead Cup’. There was a distinct lack of silverware in the Eighties. The 1990-91 was to become the saddest in our Clubs history with the deaths of 2 stalwarts. On 16th November 1990 John Wallis while attending a Lancashire and Cheshire League meeting suffered a brain haemorrhage from which he never recovered.

Introduction Ged Grebby UK Project Co-ordinator The 2007-8 season was officially the most successful season in the history of our campaign with more posters produced, events at clubs and community education work than ever before. We are now working on our Annual Review for this period, which we hope to have finished for July 2008. This newsletter can only give a flavour of the work we have carried out since our last newsletter in Leroy Rosenior and Robbie Earle presented the December. We managed to cap a brilliant season for our Hall of Fame Ceremony. anti-racist campaign with a fantastic event at 10 Downing Street with our patrons, supporters and sponsors. Work is progressing well on our four new films: 1. A film in conjunction with Fifpro the international players’ union called “Racism and the Beautiful game”. This DVD will be used by players’ unions around the world to promote ideas on how football can combat racism. 2. A film and education pack to combat the growth of Islamophobia in society. 3. An updated version of our Show Racism the Red Card DVD. 4. A new Scottish Show Racism the Red Card DVD. The aim is to have all four films finished and ready to launch for the beginning of the new season in August. We have interviewed the following players and ex- players: Thierry Henry, Lillian Thuram, Samuel Eto’o, Gareth Southgate, Ryan Giggs, Wes Brown, Brian McClair, Gordon Taylor, Robert Earnshaw, Danny Gabbidon, Leroy Sol Campbell and Fabulous Flournoy were Rosenior, Freddie Eastwood, Jermaine Easter, Gareth Bale, amongst the guests at 10 Downing Street.
