PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized. -

Pour cette raison Music Academy International entre autres, accueille nombre d’artistes étrangers réputés. Music Academy se félicite également d’un partenariat privilégié avec une vingtaine des INTERNATIONAL : Le caractère universel de la musique et plus particulièrement les qualités de plus grandes écoles du monde entier. Mais ne nous y trompons pas, même si à Music Academy le brassage et d’intégration des courants actuels, interdit de délimiter son champ d’action, de rester mot “International” prend toute sa mesure, même si les accents sont multiples, même si tous les replié sur son territoire national. -

Avec Lovedrive, SCORPIONS entame la plus extraordinaire trilogie discographique jamais enregistrée par un groupe de Rock allemand. Sans doute est-ce dû au succès rencontré par la tournée mondiale d’où fut tiré le splendide live Tokyo Tapes et qui a enfin apporté une crédibilité internationale aux arthropodes.Sans doute également l’intégration du jeune guitariste Matthias JABS (remplaçant l’excentrique Uli John ROTH, parti fonder ELECTRIC SUN, bien que l’on ressente encore parfois son apport musical) a-t-elle eu une influence sur le résultat final. Sans doute, encore, est-ce le fait de changer de label, passant de RCA à EMI. Sans doute, enfin, que la nationalité même du groupe fut un rempart contre le Punk qui a dévasté les plus grands noms de l’époque. Les conseils du producteur Dieter DIERKS expliquent également certainement le succès fulgurant remporté par ce cinquième album studio des SCORPIONS. Tout autant que la pochette (signée par l’avant-gardiste Hipgnosis) qui, une nouvelle fois (après celle fort décriée et aujourd’hui introuvable de Virgin Killer) fait jaser. -

Martin Birch: altro lutto nel mondo del rock Lunedì 10 Agosto 2020 09:58 Era stato l'ingegnere del suono di 'Made In Japan' dei Deep Purple. (foto di Ross Halfin) È morto, a 71 anni, Martin Birch, storico produttore ed ingenere del suono. Aveva lavorato (tra gli altri) con Black Sabbath e Iron Maiden ed era stato un personaggio fondamentale per la scena heavy metal. Agli inizi della propria carriera aveva lavorato come tecnico del suono per i Fleetwood Mac. Il suo sapiente lavoro è apprezzabile nei dischi più importanti dei Deep Purple: 'Deep Purple in Rock ', 'Ma chine Head ' e ' Made in Japan '. La notizia del suo decesso è stata confermata anche da David Coverdale, ex Deep Purple e Whitesnake , su Twitter: "Con grande dolore ho potuto appurare che il mio caro amico e produttore Martin Birch è deceduto… Martin è stato una grande parte della mia vita… Mi ha aiutato fin dal primo momento in cui ci siamo incontrati fino a Slide It In… Il mio pensiero e le mie preghiere vanno alla sua famiglia, i suoi amici e ai fan… ". “It was never my goal to become technical. I just wanted to play the cool stuff I heard in my head.” Billy Sheehan may be the most influential rock bassist of the last 20 years. And throughout those years, he’s favored the signature instruments he co-designed with Yamaha’s custom shop. Unlike many of the players who mimic his fretboard pyrotechnics, Sheehan has always balanced virtuosity with solid songwriting and supportive rhythm-section playing. Evidence: his work with Talas, the David Lee Roth Band and on solo albums like his most recent, Cosmic Troubadour , which also highlighted Billy’s guitar and vocal skills. Sheehan recently called from Sofia, Bulgaria, where he was on tour with another David Lee Roth Band vet, guitarist Steve Vai. What first inspired you to expand the technical boundaries they made superbly crafted instruments. The first bass we came up with was of electric bass? part of the BB Series, and later we developed the Attitude series. We’ve made It was never my goal to become technical. The Complete Studio Albums 1974-1986 UFO are an English hard rock / heavy metal band that formed in 1969, the band are still active to this date and show no signs of stopping. They found worldwide success notably across Europe and Japan, becoming ranked in the “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” by VH1 UFO – The Complete Studio Albums 1974 – 1986 is a 10CD boxset of the band’s classic studio albums. Being released on 24th February, this product comes just before the band’s early spring European tour. This 10 CD box set includes over 40 additional B-Sides, live tracks and rare bonus material to accompany the re-mastered audio of the ten original albums (Re-mastered in 2007/08/09 respectively).
