From our President~~~~~~~~~ Happy New Year! As we start a new year, I reflect back fondly on a very memorable 2015. I hope you enjoyed reading about my travels to the various car shows on the East Coast. This year, I'm planning to revisit some of those. I'm planning to attend the Amelia Concours in Florida March 10-13, along with StarFest which will be held at Mohegan Sun, CT August 3-6. StarFest is the MBCA National Event that is only held every other year. It consists of many driving events and a concours. Congratulations to Marty Rexroth who was named our Member of the Year for 2015. Marty is a great resource for technical information. He has served as our club's vice-president for the last 3 years and organizes our tech sessions. I regret that I couldn't attend the holiday party for the first time in over 20 years. My high school class reunion was held the same night. As always, I ask that you look over our calendar of events and choose one event that appeals to you. The officers really try to plan events that will appeal to many different interests. I look forward to our annual kick-off brunch in York. Members who have been there say the food is delicious, and ranges from appetizers, sandwiches, salads, entrees, and desserts. We will be seated either in the barn (by ourselves) if no one reserves the barn for Feb21st, or in the actual brewery room. Please make sure you have cash with you to pay your bill. Please contact Donna Copenheaver, 717-764-5890 or [email protected], to confirm you are attending. ***For Sale*** 1986 SL 500: Red with a red hard top and black soft top. Simeone Museum Tour and Demo Day November 14, 2015 On November 14, about a dozen Keystone Section members met at the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia to tour the collection and watch 4 great German cars participate in Demo Day. Most of the collection is comprised of vintage race cars and sports cars. Some of the highlights included a Ferrari 250 GTO, an Aston Martin DBR1 raced by Stirling Moss, several Alfa Romeo's and Bugatti's. The cars are set in dioramas that transport you to an Italian town along the Mille Miglia or Targa Floria or the pits of Le Mans. After touring the static displays we gathered behind the museum to listen to Dr. Fred Simeone tell us the history of the 4 German cars chosen for "Der Beste Von Deutschland!": 1927 Mercedes Benz S-Type Sportwagen, 1937 BMW 328, 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and a 1970 Porsche 917 LH. He and a museum volunteer drove each of the cars, although the S-Type only completed about 1 lap around the parking lot. We were told it ran fine earlier in the day, but it was having a fuel pressure issue. The black Gullwing he drove is an original survivor. It has to be the finest original one I have ever seen. You can read about how Dr. Simeone and his father acquired a pair of Gullwings for the lofty sum of $7,500 by following this link: http://petrolicious.com/buying-a-mercedes- benz-300-sl-gullwing-in-1970 You can visit the museum's website to learn more about the amazing collection at: http://www.simeonemuseum.org/ It is open most days year round except for Mondays. Some of our group at the outdoor session. The gullwing running the course. ****************Editor’s Note******************* Mercedes Benz of Lancaster’s service department has asked that we remind our members to please inform the service writers that you are an MBCA member when you bring your car for service, so that they can insure you get your 15% discount, and it is written up before service.

  • Stockholm's Archipelago and Strindberg's
Scandinavica Vol 52 No 2 2013 Stockholm’s Archipelago and Strindberg’s: Historical Reality and Modern Myth-Making Massimo Ciaravolo University of Florence Abstract The Stockholm Archipelago is ubiquitous in the prose, poetry, drama and non-fiction of August Strindberg. This article examines the interaction in Strindberg’s oeuvre between the city of Stockholm as civilized space and the wild space surrounding it, tracing the development of a literary myth of Eden in his work. Strindberg’s representations of the shifting relations between city and nature, it is argued, played (and still play) an important role in the cultural construction of mythologies of the loss of the wild space. The environments described in Strindberg’s texts are subject to changes, shifts and repetitions with variations, such that the archipelago in itself can be read as a mirror of the polyphony of points of view, the variability and the ambiguities we find in his oeuvre at large. Keywords August Strindberg, Stockholm Archipelago, city in literature, nature in literature, mythologies 52 Scandinavica Vol 52 No 2 2013 August Strindberg’s home town of Stockholm, together with its wilder counterpart, the archipelago or skärgård (literally meaning group, or circle, of islands and skerries), plays a large part in Strindberg’s literary universe as well as in his life. The archipelago is ubiquitous in his oeuvre; it occurs in prose as well as in poetry and in drama, and it characterizes both fiction, autobiography and non-fiction (essays, letters and diaries). It can sometimes provide the setting to whole works, but in a series of other works it can be included as one of the settings, or even be mentioned peripherally.

As those of you who receive our E-Mail Blasts or regularly check our web site are already aware, Great Day! Tours has not been “sitting idle”, as we gradually brought back our tours for those wanting to travel, starting last June and, by July, our annual tour to Mount Rushmore showed that there was much “pent-up” demand for travel. During September we introduced a dozen tours and most sold out within days. This 2021 Tour Book has more tours to choose from than ever before. A quote from St. Augustine, the fourth-century theologian, said, “The world is a book, and • Traveling can change a person “physically and psychologically” while improving health. These experiences can lead to great new memories. • Travel does not have to be overly expensive and can reduce anxiety and depression when you separate yourself from daily routines. Various steps have evolved to adapt to the changing needs for safe travel. At the time of publication, masks are worn when boarding and de-boarding and no one is to travel if not feeling well.
