From our President~~~~~~~~~

Happy New Year! As we start a new year, I reflect back fondly on a very memorable 2015. I hope you enjoyed reading about my travels to the various car shows on the East Coast. This year, I'm planning to revisit some of those. I'm planning to attend the Amelia Concours in Florida March 10-13, along with StarFest which will be held at Mohegan Sun, CT August 3-6. StarFest is the MBCA National Event that is only held every other year. It consists of many driving events and a concours. Congratulations to Marty Rexroth who was named our Member of the Year for 2015. Marty is a great resource for technical information. He has served as our club's vice-president for the last 3 years and organizes our tech sessions. I regret that I couldn't attend the holiday party for the first time in over 20 years. My high school class reunion was held the same night. As always, I ask that you look over our calendar of events and choose one event that appeals to you. The officers really try to plan events that will appeal to many different interests. I look forward to our annual kick-off brunch in York.

Larry

February 2016 Kick-Off Luncheon On Sunday, Feb 21st our section will hold our first event of 2016. We will “Kick-off the Year” with a luncheon at 1pm at Woodridge Farms, 885 S. Pleasant Avenue, Dallastown, PA. (717-244- 9900) Attendees can go on their web site, www.wyndridge.com, to view the facility and get the map/location. They do not display their menu as they are a “farm-to-table” restaurant, so it changes daily, depending on the ingredients they are able to obtain fresh. Members who have been there say the food is delicious, and ranges from appetizers, sandwiches, salads, entrees, and desserts. We will be seated either in the barn (by ourselves) if no one reserves the barn for Feb21st, or in the actual brewery room. This restaurant will give only one bill for payment, but they will let each person know what he/she owes. Therefore, individual credit card payment may not be available. Please make sure you have cash with you to pay your bill. Please contact Donna Copenheaver, 717-764-5890 or [email protected], to confirm you are attending.

Simeone Museum Tour and Demo Day November 14, 2015 On November 14, about a dozen Keystone Section members met at the Simeone Museum in to tour the collection and watch 4 great German cars participate in Demo Day. Most of the collection is comprised of vintage race cars and sports cars. Some of the highlights included a Ferrari 250 GTO, an Aston Martin DBR1 raced by Stirling Moss, several Alfa Romeo's and Bugatti's. The cars are set in dioramas that transport you to an Italian town along the Mille Miglia or Targa Floria or the pits of Le Mans. After touring the static displays we gathered behind the museum to listen to Dr. Fred Simeone tell us the history of the 4 German cars chosen for "Der Beste Von Deutschland!": 1927 Mercedes Benz S-Type Sportwagen, 1937 BMW 328, 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and a 1970 Porsche 917 LH. He and a museum volunteer drove each of the cars, although the S-Type only completed about 1 lap around the parking lot. We were told it ran fine earlier in the day, but it was having a fuel pressure issue. The black Gullwing he drove is an original survivor. It has to be the finest original one I have ever seen. You can read about how Dr. Simeone and his father acquired a pair of Gullwings for the lofty sum of $7,500 by following this link: http://petrolicious.com/buying-a-mercedes- benz-300-sl-gullwing-in-1970 You can visit the museum's website to learn more about the amazing collection at: http://www.simeonemuseum.org/ It is open most days year round except for Mondays.

****************Editor’s Note******************* Mercedes Benz of Lancaster’s service department has asked that we remind our members to please inform the service writers that you are an MBCA member when you bring your car for service, so that they can insure you get your 15% discount, and it is written up before service. You may, also, be asked to show your membership card, so take it along. This will save you and the service dept. the time of having to do a refund after the fact. This would also work at Sun Motors or any other authorized dealer that offers MBCA members a discount.

2016 Planning Session Held On Nov. 21, 2015

Once again this year, the officers and other club members met at Mercedes-Benz of Lancaster to plan the events for the upcoming year. We put our old favorites on the calendar as well as some new events. We then enjoyed a takeout lunch from The Olive Garden. Please see the calendar of events on the front of the newsletter to see what's in store for this year. As you can see, we may still have some open months, so, if you have any ideas for events, please let one of your officers know. Thanks to all of our volunteers who will be organizing the events. Lunch Break !

Welcome New Members!

John Bear of Lititz Steven Cunningham of Lancaster Jeffrey Frekot of Middletown Richard Gavigan of New Cumberland Charles Jangdhari of Lancaster John Julius of Lancaster Gail Lorenzo of Lancaster John Smolcic of Lewistown

Hope to meet you all at a future event!

Do we have your Email Address? If you did not give the national office your email on your membership application, or it has changed since you joined, please consider sending it to me at [email protected]. It will be used for only Keystone Section communications! We are trying to compile as complete a list as possible of member email info. This helps us with last-minute reminders, changes or cancellation of events. It would, also, enable us to send the newsletter by email in the future, and save the club some of the costs of printing and postage.

Holiday Party 2015~~ A Special Evening!

The Eden Resort Inn, Lancaster, was the site of our 2015 holiday celebration for the 14th. year. Our party was held Saturday evening, Dec. 5, and it was another great evening, with 32 members and guests attending. We enjoyed another delicious Eden Resort dinner, and a good time with friends old and new. Following dinner, we conducted a short business meeting, during which John Kitner announced our 2015 Member of the Year, Marty Rexroth, who is, also, our VP. Door prize drawings were then held—with gifts for all! We thank Bill Gillis, and Richard Mast at Mercedes- Benz of Lancaster, and Eden Resort & Suites, and Ed Bulakites of Car Care Source for their donations for prizes. As always, we deeply appreciate their generosity. If you haven’t attended in the past, you’ve been missing a great evening. Come out in 2016 and see for yourself! We have already reserved Saturday, December 3rd. for this year’s dinner, so mark your calendars. As the year progresses, there will be more info about reserving a room for the evening. We usually get a reduced rate for those attending the dinner.
