From our President~~~~~~~~~ Happy New Year! As we start a new year, I reflect back fondly on a very memorable 2015. I hope you enjoyed reading about my travels to the various car shows on the East Coast. This year, I'm planning to revisit some of those. I'm planning to attend the Amelia Concours in Florida March 10-13, along with StarFest which will be held at Mohegan Sun, CT August 3-6. StarFest is the MBCA National Event that is only held every other year. It consists of many driving events and a concours. Congratulations to Marty Rexroth who was named our Member of the Year for 2015. Marty is a great resource for technical information. He has served as our club's vice-president for the last 3 years and organizes our tech sessions. I regret that I couldn't attend the holiday party for the first time in over 20 years. My high school class reunion was held the same night. As always, I ask that you look over our calendar of events and choose one event that appeals to you. The officers really try to plan events that will appeal to many different interests. I look forward to our annual kick-off brunch in York. We will “Kick-off the Year” with a luncheon at 1pm at Woodridge Farms, 885 S. Pleasant Avenue, Dallastown, PA. (717-244- 9900) Attendees can go on their web site, www.wyndridge.com, to view the facility and get the map/location. They do not display their menu as they are a “farm-to-table” restaurant, so it changes daily, depending on the ingredients they are able to obtain fresh. Members who have been there say the food is delicious, and ranges from appetizers, sandwiches, salads, entrees, and desserts. We will be seated either in the barn (by ourselves) if no one reserves the barn for Feb21st, or in the actual brewery room. This restaurant will give only one bill for payment, but they will let each person know what he/she owes. Therefore, individual credit card payment may not be available. Please make sure you have cash with you to pay your bill. Please contact Donna Copenheaver, 717-764-5890 or [email protected], to confirm you are attending. ***For Sale*** 1986 SL 500: Red with a red hard top and black soft top. Simeone Museum Tour and Demo Day November 14, 2015 On November 14, about a dozen Keystone Section members met at the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia to tour the collection and watch 4 great German cars participate in Demo Day. Most of the collection is comprised of vintage race cars and sports cars. Some of the highlights included a Ferrari 250 GTO, an Aston Martin DBR1 raced by Stirling Moss, several Alfa Romeo's and Bugatti's. The cars are set in dioramas that transport you to an Italian town along the Mille Miglia or Targa Floria or the pits of Le Mans. After touring the static displays we gathered behind the museum to listen to Dr. Fred Simeone tell us the history of the 4 German cars chosen for "Der Beste Von Deutschland!": 1927 Mercedes Benz S-Type Sportwagen, 1937 BMW 328, 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and a 1970 Porsche 917 LH. He and a museum volunteer drove each of the cars, although the S-Type only completed about 1 lap around the parking lot. We were told it ran fine earlier in the day, but it was having a fuel pressure issue. The black Gullwing he drove is an original survivor. It has to be the finest original one I have ever seen. You can read about how Dr. Simeone and his father acquired a pair of Gullwings for the lofty sum of $7,500 by following this link: http://petrolicious.com/buying-a-mercedes- benz-300-sl-gullwing-in-1970 You can visit the museum's website to learn more about the amazing collection at: http://www.simeonemuseum.org/ It is open most days year round except for Mondays. Some of our group at the outdoor session.
