The top award winners were senior men’s basketball standout Antwan Carter| St. Petersburg, Fla. (St. Petersburg) and senior softball standout Ashley Kramer|Ashburn (Broad Run) , named the school’s male and female Athletes of the Year , respectively. Carter won the award for the second-straight year, while senior women’s lacrosse team member Samantha Stifler|Jarrettsville, Md. (North Harford) was presented with the school’s Jimmy Yarbrough Inspiration Award . Carter started all 31 games this year and averaged 19.4 points and 9.2 rebounds while named CollegeInsider.com, College Sports Madness, CollegeHoops.net, and Roundball Daily.com Independent Player of the Year. A 6-6 center, he shot 51% (245-480) from the field, 31% (23-75) on three-point field goals, and 72% (88-123) at the free throw line, posting 31-straight double-figure scoring games, 14 20-point games, and 11 double-doubles while adding 30 steals and 27 blocks. Carter became the all-time scoring leader at Longwood this season, finishing his career with 1,886 points, and is the only player in the 36-year history of the program with at least 1,800 career points and 1,000 career rebounds (1,008, 2nd). He earned All- Tournament Team honors at both the 2011 Chicago Invitational Challenge and 2011 Dr. Pepper Classic. Antwan majors in communication studies, with a concentration in mass media, and is the son of Lawanda Smith and Gene Carter of St. Petersburg, Florida. Kramer has started all 51 games this spring at shortstop and is batting .321 with one home run, eight doubles, 20 runs scored, 13 RBI, and eight stolen bases. She adds 13 multi-hit games, four multi-RBI games, and a six-game hitting streak along with a .401 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage. Kramer has a career batting average of .300 with eight home runs, five triples, 28 doubles, 97 runs, 85 RBI, and 24 stolen bases. Ashley is a four-time Longwood Scholar- Athlete Award recipient and majors in kinesiology, with a concentration in exercise science, and is the daughter of Tracey and Ted Kramer of Ashburn. Stifler has demonstrated great strength of character and an unwavering commitment to her academics and team - mates while dealing with the loss of her father, Mark, this past November following a two-year battle with brain cancer. In addition to being unanimously elected a team captain this year, she is a member of the Cormier Honors College, a Dean's List student, a member of Mortar Board, Longwood Ambassadors, Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, and a member of the Tri- Beta Biological Fraternity. The midfielder has started 13 matches this spring with eight goals for eight points, adding 24 ground balls, 22 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers. Sam is a four-time Longwood Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, a 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Squad selection, and majors in biology with a con - centration in pre-health, while the daughter of the late Mark and Terry Stifler of Jarrettsville, Maryland. Other highlights to the evening were the announcements of the Henry I. Willett Scholar-Athlete Awards to graduate Kameron Carter|Bassett (Bassett) and senior Austin Gray|Midlothian (Monacan) , Freshman Athlete of the Year Awards to Megan Baltzell|Stafford (Mountain View) and Brandon Vick|Newport News (Warwick) , Academic PRIDE Awards to junior Lindsey Ottavio|Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) and sophomore Dominique Bickham|Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) , along with the Lancer Outstanding Service Awards to junior Amy Lewis|Lewisville, N.C. (Forsyth Country Day) and senior Zack Mahon|San Antonio, Texas (William Howard Taft) .
