To motivate meritorious undergraduate students of engineering to pursue a research career in engineering, through a scheme of awarding Summer Fellowshipsatreputedinstitutionsandother incentives. 2. To award Scholarships to first rankersamong 1 st , 2 nd and 3rd year students pursuing B.Tech. MetallurgicalEngineeringinselectedinstitutions 3. To award Prof T R Anantharaman Prizes for Science Communication by recognizing articles publishedbyyoungIndiansinpublicationssuchasIIMNews,CurrentScience,NanotechInsights. 4. To organize a “Professor T R Anantharaman Memorial Lecture” to be delivered by an eminent personeveryyearonhisbirthdaynamely,November25atvenuestobedecidedbytheBoardof Trustees. 3 5. Toprovidepartialorfullfinancialsupporttostudents pursuing Ph. D. research in any Materials Science related subject to enable them to present their original research work in International Conferencesabroad. 6. ToawardVisitingScientistpositionsforaperiodofuptothreemonthstofacultymembersfromthe less endowed institutions to carry out research at premier institutions like the Indian Institute of Science,InstituteofTechnologyatBanarasHinduUniversityandthevarious Indian Institutesof Technology. 7. ToestablishanEndowmentChair(namedasthe“ProfessorTRAnantharamanEndowmentChair”) inoneormorepremierinstitutionsinIndiaforthepurposeofcarryingoutresearchinfrontierareas ofMaterialsScienceandTechnologyandtopaymonthlyHonorariumtooneservingfacultymember intheseinstitutionswhoisselectedtooccupythisChairforamaximumperiodofoneyear. 8. ToorganizeoneormoreInternationalConferencesperiodically(periodtobedecidedfromtimeto timebytheBoardofTrustees)inthenameofProfessorTRAnantharamanonresearchtopicsof currentrelevance. 9. To sponsor/provide financial support for basic research projects in the fields of Science and Engineering. 10. TosponsorresearchandoutreachactivitiesrelatedtoHistoryofIndianscienceandtechnologyand MaterialsheritageofIndia 11. TosponsorresearchactivitiesaimedatadeeperunderstandingofIndianPhilosophyandYoga. 12. To organise publication of Professor T R Anantharaman’s unpublished writings and speeches on topicsinmetallurgy,materialsscience,philosophyandyoga. 13. TomaintainaLibraryofProfessorTRAnantharamanmemorabiliasuchastextsofhisspeeches, photos,audioandvideorecordings,availablewithfamilymembers,friendsandinstitutions. 14. TotakeupanyotheractivitythatwouldperpetuatethememoryofProfessorTRAnantharaman,as maybedecidedbytheBoardofTrusteesfromtimetotime. InlinewiththeabovebroadobjectivesandkeepinginviewthelimitedfundsavailabletoTRAERF,it has been decided that the Trust will efficiently extenditssupporttoselectstudentsofDepartmentof MetallurgicalEngineering,InstituteofTechnology,BanarasHinduUniversityasalsothoseofafewnon- top-tier institutions, who have to their credit meritorious record and who have also shown credible commitmenttoacademicsinmetallurgyandmaterialssciences.Suchsupportisaimedatenhancingtheir knowledgeandresearchskills. In addition to supporting top ranking students, TRAERF also would support outstanding teachers of variousmetallurgicalengineeringdepartmentstoinculcateteachingandresearchskillsintraditionalas wellasnewerspecializationsinmetallurgyandmaterialscience. 4 3. ConferencesandSeminars: (i) A 5-day School on SURFACE ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES: RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS(SETRA-2012) wasconductedatInternationalAdvancedResearchCentrefor PowderMetallurgyand NewMaterials(ARCI), HyderabadduringAugust2-31,2012.Several renowned scientists and technologies, specialized in Surface Engineering have delivered the course contents to 60 enthusiastically participated scientists, engineers as well as research scholarsandteachingfaculty.Thetechnicalprogrammeandlogisticswereablyprovidedbythe teamledbyDr.SrikanthVJoshi,AssociateDirector,ARCI,Hyderabad, (ii) A two-day National Conference on EVALUATION AND PREVENTION OF CORROSION AND FAILURES (EPCF-2012) was conducted at School of Engineering Sciences and Technology, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad on November 29th & 30th, 2012. The conferencewasorganizedbySESTfacultyandMembersofRCMA(Materials),Hyderabad.The technicalprogrammeandlogisticswereablyprovidedbytheteamledbyDr.KBhanuSankara RaoofSEST,UoH,Hyderabad. Fund-Raising&FinancialManagement: TheprincipalsourceoffundsfortheTrustisdonationsreceivedfromcolleagues,friends,students and well-wishers of Professor TR Anantharaman. The listofdonorswhohavecontributedtothe corpusfundtilldateisgiveninAnnexure–4.Sincemanyothers,studentsandadmirersofProfessor TRAnantharaman,stayingoutsideIndiahaveexpressedtheirwishtocontributefundstotheTrust,is has been decided to start the process of obtaining Government of India permission for receiving donationsfromNRIs.TheTreasurerhasensuredthecompletionofthetaskofopeningaseparate bankaccountforNRIdonations. ThefinancialtransactionsandthemanagementofbankaccountaremonitoredbyM/xJyothirmayi Associates, the auditors employed for the foundation. Their audit report is given in a separate document,appendedtothisreport.

S. Elliot From the Director In July 2017 IIT Hyderabad entered its 10th year. We have come a long way in the last 9 years. Academically, we are at the forefront of developing new curricula and new programs. We are also at the forefront of research and development. Our faculty student ratio is best among all IITs – 1:13. We have a very strong PG program. The rough ratio among Ph.D. students, Masters students and undergraduate students is 30:25:45. By Aug 2017, IITH will have more than 2300 students with almost 20% women students, and 180 faculty members. IITH’s sanctioned research funding will be to the tune of Rs.350 crs.

SHRI SANJAY SETH: Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state : (a) whether Government has fixed any norm for conferring Padma Vibhushan and other awards; (b) if so, the details thereof; (c) the names of the social workers, great luminaries and eminent persons honoured with these awards by Central Government during last three years till date, year-wise; (d) whether the attention of Government has been drawn towards conferring with Padma Vibhushan award to Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav along with some other great social workers; and (e) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by Government in this regard? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU) (a & b) The Padma Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, viz. art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service.
