850 Imperial German 1900-1914 Painting Instructions 1st Foot Guards Regts. The Prussian army formed the core of the Imperial German army after unification in 1870, and the first foot guards was a Prussian unit first raised in 1688. On parade it wore, as a mark of its special place in the army establishment, a MITRE cap instead of the otherwise ubiquitous Pickelhaube. This cap was an echo of army headwear from the eighteenth century.

Cap Plates - Silver AV997 Line Officers: Same as Foot Guards but with a Chin Straps - Silver AV997 pickelhaube rather than a Mitre cap. 1900 - 1914 1st Foot Guards Mitre Cap

Note that Foot Guards Officers wore a White Pompom with White Centre.

Line . Line regiments all wore the Pickelhaube, albeit with some variations in the helmet plates from one state to another. Parade uniforms were invariably Prussian blue and trousers white for summer. A horsehair plume was worn on the helmet as part of the parade uniform.

Coat Tabs - Piped Red with a gilt buttons for Bayonet Sheath - Black Line Infantry and Silver for Foot Guards. Foot guards infantry - Same as Line but with Mitre cap instead of Pickelhaube.
