Writing love poetry that resonates with our readers and illuminates our concerns; that avoids the pitfalls of sentimentality and cliche... to achieve this we need to harness our writing skills and employ them with fierce observation and concentration. We will study some wonderful, wide-ranging examples of love poetry and discuss why they work. We will then begin work on a poem, moving through a couple of drafts. This will involve individual writing time and a group workshop where Anthony will guide you through a number of crucial, exciting stages. This workshop is ideal for beginner writers but also for more experienced poets.

Anthony Lawrence has published 14 books of poems, the most recent being Signal Flare which was published in 2013 by Puncher & Wattman. His books and individual poems have won many major awards including the Josephine Ulrick Award, the Queensland Premier’s Award, the New South Wales Premier’s Award, the Newcastle Poetry Prize and the Gwen Harwood Memorial Award. He teaches at Griffith University, Gold Coast, and lives on the far north coast of New South Wales. Anthony Lawrence
