  • House Md Season 2 Episode 2 Autopsy
House md Season 2 episode 2 Autopsy This episode is all about what make life worth living even in the face of death Synopsis Andy is a nine year old girl with terminal cancer. She is seen at the beginning of the episode singing Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful as she puts on a wig and smiles at herself in the mirror. But she has a frightening hallucination and has to go to hospital where she becomes Dr House’s patient. Dr House is not just bothered about her condition but about why she is so brave, helping her mother cope with the worry and fears about her illness and comforting her. Dr House doesn’t believe that a nine year old can be that brave and thinks it’s a symptom of disease. During one procedure where Dr Chase is performing the tests, Andy says she has never kissed a boy and wonders what it would be like. Dr Chase says there is plenty of time for that, but Andy says she may die without ever having experienced kissing a boy. She asks Dr Chase to kiss her. Dr Chase says no at first, but changes his mind and kisses her gently on the lips. Back in the office, the team speculate whether Andy has ever been sexually molested which Dr Chase denies saying that he believed her when she said she’d never been kissed. Dr House is cynical and says she’s learned how to manipulate people from being abused then correctly guesses that Dr Chase kissed her when she asked.

  • Explaining Changes in House Prices1
Gregory D Sutton +41 61 280 8421 [email protected] Explaining changes in house prices1 Against the backdrop of sharply lower global equity prices, an important question facing policymakers is the outlook for consumer spending.2 The exact relationship between changes in household wealth and consumer spending is uncertain. Even so, the recent large declines in equity prices are likely to be a depressing influence on consumer spending in the future. Offsetting this effect is the strong recent growth in house prices in a number of countries. Academic research has documented an important influence of housing wealth on consumer behaviour.3 The outlook for consumer spending, therefore, also depends on the future course of house prices. Presumably, a continuation of the global economic slowdown would slow the growth in house prices. Yet, house prices could also come under pressure even in the absence of a further slowdown in economic activity if stock market wealth is an important determinant of the demand for housing. This special feature examines the extent to which house price fluctuations in six advanced economies – the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands and Australia – can be attributed to fluctuations in national incomes, interest rates and stock prices. To this end, the joint behaviour of house prices, national incomes, real interest rates and stock prices is studied within the context of a simple empirical model. The empirical framework permits one to identify the typical response of house prices to changes in a small set of key determinants and also to examine the extent to which house prices have tended to deviate from the values predicted by them.

  • A Feminist Criticism of House
Lutzker 1 House is a medical drama based on the fictitious story of Dr . Gregory House, a cruelly sarcastic, yet brilliant, doctor . Dr . House works as a diagnostician at the Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital where he employs a team of young doctors who aspire to achieve greater success in their careers . Being a member of House’s team is a privilege, yet the team members must be able to tolerate Dr . House’s caustic sense of humor . Because of Dr . House’s brilliance, his coworkers and bosses alike tend to overlook his deviant and childish behaviors . Even though Dr . House’s leg causes him to be in severe pain every day, and has contributed to his negative outlook on life, both his patients and coworkers do not have much sympathy for him . The main goals of House’s outlandish behaviors are to solve the puzzle of his patients’ medical cases . Dr . House handpicks the patients whom he finds have interesting medical quandaries and attempts to diagnose them . By conferring with his team, and “asking” for permission from Dr . Lisa Cuddy, Dr . House is able to treat the patients as he sees fit . He usually does not diagnose the patients correctly the first time . However, with each new symptom, a new piece of the puzzle unfolds, giving a clearer view of the cause of illness . Dr . House typically manages to save the lives of his patients by the end of the episode, usually without having any physical contact with the patient . Dr . House has an arrogant and self-righteous personality . Some of the lines that are written for Dr .

  • Indoor and Outdoor Noise Changes Due to the COVID-19 Lockdown and Their Effects on Individuals' Expectations and Preferences
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Indoor and outdoor noise changes due to the COVID‑19 lockdown and their efects on individuals’ expectations and preferences Marco Caniato1*, Federica Bettarello2 & Andrea Gasparella1 The COVID‑19 pandemic signifcantly modifed our urban territories. One of the most strongly afected parameters was outdoor noise, caused by trafc and human activity in general, all of which were forced to stop during the spring of 2020. This caused an indubitable noise reduction both inside and outside the home. This study investigates how people reacted to this new unexpected, unwanted and unpredictable situation. Using feld measurements, it was possible to demonstrate how the outdoor sound pressure level clearly decreased. Furthermore, by means of an international survey, it was discovered that people had positive reaction to the lower noise level. This preference was generally not related to home typology or location in the city, but rather to a generalized wish to live in a quieter urban environment. During the COVID-19 emergency many diferent human activities have been strongly modifed or banned. Te pandemic has made many people around the world stay at home at some point in time, strongly limiting actions and unfortunately personal freedom. Tese restrictions have been necessary to save lives. Tere have been many consequences of this: (1) economic crisis, (2) a stop to working activities and/or smart working from home, (3) imposed distances and (4) strong reduction in trafc and normal activities. As an example, in Italy the trafc decreased by 79% during April 2020 compared to April 2019 1. Tis situation afected the outdoor environment 2,3 in terms of pollutant emissions; one of these is noise4–6.

  • The House by the Lake
Eco-Architecture: Harmonisation between Architecture and Nature 215 The house by the lake C.A. Brebbia1 & J Gorst2 1 Wessex Institute of Technology, 2 James Gorst Architects Abstract The paper describes the proposed building of an Ecohouse located alongside a small lake and against a steep slope. Managed woodland surrounds the site, which is accessed by existing driveways. The design of the landscape accepts the land in this existing state and does not propose any formal area requiring additional work. The whole design is in harmony with its surroundings. The philosophy of the design is to produce a low energy eco-friendly house which is as environmentally aware as it is architecturally distinguished. As such, it will serve as an example for the country house of the 21st century. 1 Introduction The brief was to design a house for the first author and his wife that responds to his academic needs as well as being a functional home. It is also a statement of their commitment to creating a type of architecture which is environmentally friendly and in harmony with its surroundings. The shared objective of the team was to design and build a low-energy, sustainable home of distinguished architecture [1]. James Gorst Architects led the team which included the eminent environmental engineer, Max Fordham, ecologists and landscape architects, as well as consulting engineers and planners. Their aim was to design an eco- friendly house which can be a model for the future. This paper describes the main aspects of the new design, ie: • The Design Guidelines How the proposed site is ideally situated to the design of an eco-house and how the proposal relates to the new UK Planning Policy guidelines known as PPS7.
