Harris (b.1903) taught English and journalism at Los Angeles City College (1929-42), was the editor of Los Angeles Daily News (1945-50), a professor of journalism (1950-71), department chairman (1955-60), and emeritus professor at UCLA. The collection consists of copies of newspaper articles on the Spanish Civil War, and Harris' typescripts concerning the role of press and propaganda during the war. UCLA Catalog Record ID UCLA Catalog Record ID: 4233115 Biography Harris was born on April 3, 1903, in Bloomington, Indiana; AB (1925) and AM (1926), Indiana University; attended Yale University (1926-27) and University of Southern California (1928-29); instructor in English and French, Bucknell University (1925-26); taught English and journalism at Los Angeles City College (1929-42); editor of Los Angeles Daily News (1945-50); professor of journalism (1950-71), department chairman (1955-60), and emeritus professor, UCLA; publications include The press in an authoritarian state (1963), and The Spanish press in transition (1966). 1074 2 Scope and Content Collection consists of copies of newspaper articles on the Spanish Civil War, and UCLA journalism professor Robert Harris' typescripts concerning the role of press and propaganda during the war.
