Travel Teacher is a phased model combining education and adventure. This holistic development approach provides our customers with an unique experience like no other.

PHASE 1 - LEARN During this phase individuals will be given the opportunity to gain an industry recognised level 3 Teaching Qualification (Award in Education and Training). This will provide an underpinning platform for the Travel Teacher experience. We aim to ensure that all of our volunteers are fully prepared, allowing them to feel confident whilst carrying out their role as an impact assistant. This will ensure that all volunteers make a positive impact throughout the duration of their experience. PHASE 2 - DISCOVER

Travel Teacher will provide individuals with an opportunity to 'Discover a wonder of the South Pacific' and visit one of our project destinations in either Fiji or The Cook Islands. This will assist broadening horizons, gaining transferable skills vital for the world of work and will also provide an unforgettable experience and lifelong memories. PHASE 3 - INSPIRE

Whilst in Fiji or The Cooks, individuals will participate in a voluntary work placement programme for a minimum of 3 hours per day, 5 days per week at one of our partnered primary schools. Our Volunteers will have the responsibility of planning, teaching and monitoring the progress of the children in one of two development pathways: Physical Literacy (Sport) & Academic Literacy (English). Our Travel Teacher volunteers will contribute in helping the young people have a brighter future. COURSE DELIVERY

The course will be delivered as part of a 3 day workshop prior to your departure on the Travel Teacher Discovery Work Placement experience. Dates and location of training will be provided to you as part of your confirmation pack if you are successful in the application phase for the Travel Teacher education and adventure experience. DISCOVER - FIJI Travel Teacher combines learning with exploration. Our embedded discovery itinerary will allow you to experience an adventure of a lifetime whilst immersing yourself in the rich culture of this beautiful island at the heart of the South Pacific. ITINERARY During your spare time our country reps will work hard to ensure that you can enjoy the spectacular sights that Fiji has to offer. We will devise an individualised adventure itinerary to meet your needs and interests, whether its island hopping, visiting the beautiful beaches or going snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the coral coast amongst other attractions. We will ensure that this experience will be unique and tailored to meet your own needs. Below is an overview of the 2 week project itinerary, an adaptation of this is developed for our 1 week work placement experiences (Please note, the itinerary is subject to adaptation depending on availability of tours and the time of the year­ additional charges may incur for some activities.) DISCOVERY ITINERARY - FIJI (2 WEEKS)

DAY 1

BULA!! Upon arrival in Fiji you will be shuttled from Nadi International airport to the village of Namatakula, your transfer will take approx 2 hours, so sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery on route. Once you have arrived at your village homestay accommodation you will be greeted in traditional Fijian style. You will take part in a welcome ceremony where you will be presented with garlands and have the opportunity to drink some Kava. This will be followed by some singing and dancing with the locals. You will then receive an induction briefing and orientation of the village before having the opportunity to rest after your long flight. DAY 2

Rise and shine ­ your work placement experience begins here. After breakfast you will be transported / walk the short distance to Ratu Filise Memorial School where you will be introduced to your assigned cohort of young learners for the duration of your experience. Your Work Placement will take place from 8:00am ­ 11:00am.

In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to relax and unwind at the 'Beachouse', a beautiful accommodation set along the Coral Coast. You can take advantage of the swimming pool or lounge in a hammock overlooking the sea. If you are feeling more active there will be an opportunity to play some beach volleyball.

DAY 3

Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am.

Upon completion of your placement you will have the opportunity to have lunch before visiting the beautiful Navua River, the transfer will take approx 1 hour. You will have the opportunity to raft up the stunning and pristine upper Navua Gorge and play beneath an amazing waterfall. In the evening you will have the opportunity to take in some local entertainment and watch a Fijian Hot Stone display, embracing some local culture.

DAY 4

Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am.

After your work placement you will get a chance to grab a snack before heading off to one of Fiji's hidden jewels ­ The Sabeto Hot Water Springs. You will have the opportunity to indulge in a therapeutic natural spa, also known as the Sebeto mud baths. This is an ideal remedy for self cleansing and beautifying yourself. The sulphur in the hot springs is believed by locals to have natural healing properties. This is a great social experience ­ don't forget your swimwear!! DAY 5 Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am. After a productive morning you will have the opportunity to visit the picturesque Natadola Beach. The beach is perfect for Swimming, Snorkeling and just chilling out. You will also get the opportunity to learn to paddleboard in the crystal clear waters, where you may witness some stunning marine life. During the evening the group will attend a traditional Fijian cultural dance. DAY 6 Today is your day off, ready yourselves for a spectacular visit to one of Fiji's magical islands ­ . You will depart your village accommodation shortly after breakfast and take a short shuttle to Denarau Marina where you will be transported via boat to this dream island. Situated on a picturesque marine sanctuary in the heart of the mamanuka islands ­ it's an island that is easy to get too, yet very hard to leave. This is the most sought after destination on the South Pacific.

DAY 7 Today you will have an opportunity to spend a day at your own leisure. You may wish to take a day trip to Tivua Island, another island of the Mamanucas. Tivua is a small coral cay located in the northern part of the Mamanuca group of islands. The island is fringed with white sand and is surrounded by 500 acres of reef, which makes it great for snorkelling. Or if you prefer simply to relax by the beach with a good book ­ The Coral Coast is your oyster. DAY 8 Back to School! You will return back to your work placement and reignite the fantastic rapport that you have built during the past week with your cohort of learners. In the afternoon you will have the option to visit the town of Sigatoka ­ here you will be able to relax, take in some shopping and purchase some local souvenirs for loved ones back home. DAY 9 Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am. Today you will embark on a ecological visit to Kula Eco Park. Kula Park is an environmental showpiece of the Coral Coast and is a breeding centre for endangered Fijian wildlife. Kula Eco Park is home to several native birds and reptiles, you will get an opportunity to hold and take pictures with some of the rarest animals in the world. DAY 10 Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am. Learn the art of some traditional Fijian cooking. Our volunteers will have the opportunity to learn to cook some of Fiji's delicious recipes. Dishes in Fiji are traditionally very healthy ­ the cuisine relies heavily on seafood, pork, chicken as well as root vegetables. If cooking isn't for you, then why don't you learn how to weave hats in the local style? In the evening you will get an opportunity to re­live a Fijian cutural show, so take this opportunity to relax with some Kava and embrae the tradition.

DAY 11

Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am. Journey into Fiji's culture and Evolution, we will be visiting Suva ­ the capital city of Fiji. Here you will have an opportunity to visit The Museum of Fiji where you can enjoy some of the wonderful exhibits. The museum houses an archaeological collection dating back 3700 years. As a prelude to your museum experience take a stroll through the citys botanical garden ­ The Thurston Gardens. The gardens are built on the original town of Suva which was burned in 1843 in one of the bloodiest fights in Fiji history. If that isn't enough you can explore the city centre shops and markets, keeping an eye open for a bargain. DAY 12 Work placement 8:00am ­ 11:00am. Today will be the last day of your work placement ­ this will be an opportunity to celebrate the success and progress made with your learning cohort. After you have bid farewell to the learners at Ratu Filise you can enjoy some leisure time ­ maybe relax and kickback by the pool at the beachouse. Alternatively if you prefer more of an activity filled afternoon then why not revisit Navua Gorge for some inflatable Kayaking or whitewater rafting ( additional costs for activities may occur). In the evening you will be invited once again to join the locals for an evening of cultural entertainment in the village. DAY 13 Today you will have the option to visit another of the , and enjoy your last day in paradise. This can be organised on a bespoke basis by our Country Manager in Fiji (This may incur additional costs). Alternatively you may wish to spend your last day relaxing by the pool at the Beachouse or why not cherish the magnificent views of the South Pacific from the Coral Coast beachfront. In the evening we will conduct our Travel Teacher Project ­ Awards Ceremony. This will be a celebration of achievement and success, there will be singing, dancing and Kava of course. DAY 14 Today you bid farewell to the beautiful Island of Fiji.All volunteers will be transported back to Nadi International Airport in preparation for departures. Education is a key element in achieving sustainable development in both Fiji and The Cook Islands and by assisting in the local communities you can make a positive difference to the lives of many young people, teaching them vital skills both physical and academic.

Individuals will have the opportunity to apply their teaching skills during a work placement at a Ratu Filise School located on Fiji's Coral Coast or Araura College in Aitutaki. The placement programs focus on two educational pathways:

RATU FILISE MEMORIAL SCHOOL - FIJI

Ratu Filise is our partnered school in Fiji, this is where our volunteers will complete their work experience. Ratu caters for approximately 200 children aged 8 to 14 years of age. The school is located in the village of Namatakula, on the Coral Coast of Fiji and operates with limited resources. Ratu is a beneficiary of the Travel Teacher Foundation, The charity will be working hard over the coming months and years to improve the quality of facility and resource for the young children, enabling them to have a brighter future.

ARAURA COLLEGE - AITUTAKI, COOK ISLANDS

Araura College is the only school on the island of Aitutaki (Cook Islands) and has a roll of 200 students. The school was established in February 1963. In 1977 the school was upgraded to college status with the introduction of the new Zealand School Certificate Prescriptions. This is a 3 year course designed for the average New Zealander to achieve. Principal Tracy Spiers become Araura's first female principal in 2014. The college's vision is to become the centre of learning for the community, Travel Teacher will be working alongside Araura to facilitate volunteer projects in the Cook Islands and to provide sponsorship via the Travel Teacher Foundation. Namatakula Village will provide sanctuary for our volunteers during their placement experience. Namatakula is a fairly large village with about 600 inhabitants, the village lies on the coral coast on the main island of See Map.

Namatakula's largest buildings are two churches, a Roman Catholic and a Methodist church which boasts a community hall. From the moment that you step into the village you will be accepted into the community and experience true 'Fiji Time'.

Travel Teachers Country Manager for Fiji, Vani Ruve will be playing host to all of our volunteers during their stay. Vani's very own family home is situated in the village and this is where you will be based for the duration of your stay. This very welcoming, community environment will allow our volunteers to engage with the locals in this beautiful setting.

The Travel Teacher Foundation is a non­profit charity that works alongside Travel Teacher. Our charity is designed to give you as a Volunteer the opportunity to help support your chosen project. 100% of your fundraised money goes directly to our projects. The Travel Teacher gives you a voice. You will help us to decide how your fundraising is used by giving direct input to identify what is needed to develop the project for the future. NON - PROFIT VOLUNTEERING Travel Teacher offers non ­ profit volunteer work placement experiences. We do not gain any profit from our volunteer programmes. Travel Teacher acts as a connector that facilitates the training, logistics and itinerary for international volunteers to be placed at our projects. LONG TERM COMMITMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

We are committed to the long term sustainability of our projects and the continuity of our programmes. We achieve this by delivering regular projects to support our partnered schools throughout the year. We offer short term volunteering experiences to assist with the delivery of curriculum at our partnered schools. We are passionate about continuity and believe this is paramount in making a difference to our projects.

RESPONSIBLE DONATIONS

All donations made to The Travel Teacher Foundation are for the provision of equipment & regeneration of the facilities at our partnered schools. We do not hand over money directly. All donations are tangible, that way we can ensure that your fund raising is put to its full use.
