Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation.

View metadata, citation andbrought similarCORE to papersyou by at core.ac.uk provided by Yale Law School Legal Scholarship Repository DANIELLE KEATS CITRON Sexual Privacy abstract. Those who wish to control, expose, and damage the identities of individuals rou- tinely do so by invading their privacy. People are secretly recorded in bedrooms and public bath- rooms and “up their skirts.” Such images are used to coerce people into sharing nude photographs and filming sex acts under the threat of public disclosure. People’s nude images are posted online without permission. Machine-learning technology is used to create digitally manipulated “deep fake” sex videos that swap people’s faces into pornography. Each of these abuses is an invasion of sexual privacy—the behaviors, expectations, and choices that manage access to and information about the human body, sex, sexuality, gender, and intimate activities. Most often, women, nonwhites, sexual minorities, and minors shoulder the abuse. Sex- ual privacy, this Article contends, is a distinct privacy interest that warrants recognition and pro- tection. It serves as a cornerstone for sexual autonomy and consent. It is foundational to human dignity and intimacy, and its denial results in the subordination of marginalized communities. Traditional privacy law is increasingly insufficient to protect this interest. Its efficacy is erod- ing just as digital technologies magnify the scale and scope of the harm. The Article suggests a new approach to protecting sexual privacy that focuses on law and markets. Law should provide federal and state penalties for all types of sexual-privacy invasions, remove the statutory immunity from liability for certain content platforms, and work in tandem with hate-crime laws.

Tyson An abstract of a dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate Program in Religion in the Graduate School of Duke University 2014 Copyright by Mandy Ellene McMichael 2014 Abstract Christian engagement with beauty contests shifted dramatically between the initial Miss America pageant in 1921 and its 90 th anniversary in 2011. This dissertation explores how and why many Christians found the organization an institution worthy of partnership with the church. It examines three aspects of Christian involvement in the contest: the long history of beauty pageants, the persistent emphasis on individual physical attractiveness, and the idea of witness in southern evangelical culture. It argues that after 1965, at least two factors enabled the unlikely marriage of Christians and the Miss America Organization: the perceived threat of second-wave feminism and evangelicalism’s increasing desire to engage culture.

CASSIDY MARIE WOLF MISS TEEN USA 2013 California native Cassidy Marie Wolf captured the title of Miss Teen USA 2013 on August 10th at Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The 19-year old beautiful blonde grew up in San Diego and up until recently, resided in Temecula, California. Although she loves the sunny weather, she is happy to finally experience the four seasons while fulfilling her duties as Miss Teen USA in New York City. Cassidy has been a passionate dancer since the age of two and credits her dance background for helping her compete so well in the MISS TEEN USA Competition. Focusing mainly on ballet and jazz, she has been a semi-finalist for the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards, a Merit Recipient for the National YoungArts Foundation and was previously awarded several talent scholarships to the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City which she now attends as a full-time student. This past winter, Cassidy was selected to lead debutantes through the opening waltz during the 2014 Viennese Opera Ball, one of New York City’s most elite events of the year. An avid fan and watcher of So You Think You Can Dance, Cassidy’s dream job would be Cat Deeley’s position of hosting the show and discovering America’s greatest dancer. As Miss Teen USA, Cassidy raises awareness about cyber stalking and safety as a result of her own experience. Cassudy has suffered personally from someone hacking into her computer and invading her privacy by taking photos of her without her knowledge through the webcam.
