It was established on 3 February 1958. WORKING DAYS: It was a manifestation of the important and strong Monday—Friday relationship between Malaya and Thailand at that time. Since the establishment, the Consulate General WORKING HOURS: operates on a property that was used to be the British representative office in Songkhla. ACTIVITY AND EVENTS HARI MELAYU YALA @ 2020 ___________________________________________________________________________ The Consulate General of Malaysia was invited to participate in the Malay Day @ Yala in 2020 organized by the Yala Municipality. The event was held on 7 – 9 February 2020 at the White Elephant Park, Yala Province. This program was held for the 7th time involving Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Malaysian agencies, higher learning institutes and Malaysian companies participated in this program were among others the Perlis State Secretary Office, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Tourism Melaka, FAMA, KUIPs, UUM, UnisZa, INSWA Melaka, Adabi Consumer, Thong Guan Trading and Kelantan Kite Association. Participants were also opened their respective booths to enliven the program. In addition to cultural performances, the organizer also held a session of culture learning exchange workshop to showcase each country’s culture. IFTAR AND TERAWIH PRAYER @ THE OFFICIAL RESIDENCE __________________________________________________________________________________ Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla held an Iftar dinner and Terawih prayer at the Official Residence on 16 May 2020. ACTIVITY AND EVENTS OPENING CEREMONY OF CULTURAL WEEK, SONGKHLA RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Consul General attended the Opening Ceremony of Cultural Week at Songkhla Rajabhat University on 12 August 2020. FLAG RAISING ON THE OCCASION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY __________________________________________________________________________________ On the occasion of Independence Day 2020 celebration, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla held a flag raising ceremony together with Malaysians in Songkhla Province. The National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations this year themed “Malaysia Prihatin” (Malaysia Cares) to mark the nation’s efforts in fighting Covid-19 pandemic. GUEST SPEAKER AT PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM, PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY, HAT YAI __________________________________________________________________________________ Consul General was invited to be a guest speaker. Topic of discussion among others’ history of Malaysia and ASEAN’s Integration and community building at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai on 18 September 2020. ACTIVITY AND EVENTS 7TH ASEAN WEEK AT PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY, HAT YAI __________________________________________________________________________________ The Consulate General of Malaysia participated in the 7th ASEAN Week at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai from 26-27 September 2020. PROGRAM MENDAMPINGI RAKYAT MALAYSIA (PMRM) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla organized an outreach programme with Malaysian residing in Southern Thailand on 18 October 2020 at Lee Garden Plaza Hotel, Hat Yai. The objective of the program is to provide an opportunity to meet with all Malaysians and to disseminate information related to Covid19 and other issues that affect their daily life. The event was well received by Malaysians and expressed their hope for similar event to be organized in the future. ROYAL THAI NAVY DAY ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 20 November every year is observed as a great day of the Royal Thai Navy due to the King Chulalongkorn’s official establishment of the Royal Thai Naval Academy at Wang Derm Palace in Thonburi on 20 November 1906. The Royal Thai Navy regards this auspicious day as the "Navy Day". The Consul General of Malaysia attended the Royal Thai Navy Day at Navy Region 2, Songkhla Province and was welcomed by Rear Admiral Samreng Chanso, Commander-in-Chief of Navy Region 2 and his spouse. MALAYSIA’S DIPLOMATIC EQUIPMENT STOCKPILE Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla was pleased to receive boxes of hand sanitizer, facemask and glove under the Malaysia’s Diplomatic Equipment Stockpile (MDES) initiative. The initiative was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia to supply the essential items to all Malaysian abroad. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak all over the world, there was shortage of supply of facemask and hand sanitizer in the market as both items being used as the main protection equipment against the COVID-19. MDES objective is to ensure all member of missions abroad could have adequate supply of essential items while conveying their duty at anytime. CELEBRATION OF EID-ADHA 2020 The Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla celebrated Hari Raya Aidil Adha on 30 July 2020 at “Official Residence”. PERWAKILAN’S ACTIVITIES COFFEE MORNING SESSION AND COOKING DEMONSTRATION BY PERWAKILAN SONGKHLA ____________________________________________________________________________________________ PERWAKILAN Songkhla had organized a Coffee Morning Session and Cooking Demonstration with The Indonesian Ladies Association of the Republic of Indonesia in Songkhla (DWP KRI) on 2 November 2020 at 'Rumah Malaysia', Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla. The main objective of the event is to rejuvenate friendship among ladies of both association. During the event, PERWAKILAN Songkhla conducted a cooking demonstration on the making of Roti Jala and Kari Ayam. The guests were taken with the session while enjoyed mouthful dishes that served during the event. HOMEMADE BREAD AND NOODLES CLASS ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Ladies were learnt how to make bread and created variety of bakeries from scratch. They were also learnt how to make noodles at the same time. TASTE OF SOUTHERN FOOD Kaeng Som or Sour soup made of tamarind paste _________________________________________________________________________________________ Delicious Thai traditional food of South of Thailand Kaeng Som or Sour soup made of tamarind paste is a sour and spicy fish curry or soup with vegetables popular in southern Thailand. The curry’s sour taste, comes from tamarind (makham). The recipe uses palm sugar to sweeten the curry. Recipe: FOR THE PASTE: 30 dried red Thai chilies or chilies de árbol, stemmed and roughly chopped 8 oz. raw medium shrimp (about 10), peeled and deveined, tails removed, and roughly chopped 1⁄4 cup shrimp paste, preferably Trachang brand 1 tbsp. kosher salt 8 cloves garlic, roughly chopped 6 small Asian shallots or 2 medium regular shallots, roughly chopped 1 (4"-piece) krachai, peeled and thinly sliced, or 1/4 cup frozen, defrosted and roughly chopped FOR THE CURRY: 1 cup tamarind concentrate, preferably Thai Fruit brand 1 tbsp. fish sauce, preferably Tiparos brand 1 tbsp. grated palm sugar 1⁄4 lb. long beans or regular green beans, trimmed and cut into 2" pieces 1 small chayote squash, cut into 2" pieces about 1/2" thick 1 small daikon (about 7 oz.), peeled, halved lengthwise,
