Assistant Coach Fourth Season at Temple • Michigan ‘07

Beth Riley, a four-year letterwinner at Michigan (2003-06), is entering her fourth season with the Owls as an assistant coach. Riley serves as the primary goalkeeper coach while also coordinating recruiting, travel and fundraising. Under Riley's tutelage in 2007, goalkeeper Erin Hanshue made a career high 124 saves and a .805 save percentage, ending the season ranked third in the nation for save percentage and second in the Atlantic 10 for saves. In 2008, Hanshue made 102 saves with a save percentage of .680. During the summer of 2009, Riley played for team New Jersey at the USFHA Women's National Championship, helping the team to place first. Riley arrived on North Broad Street in 2007 after capturing two Big Ten Tournament crowns (2004-05) and appearing in three NCAA Tournaments (2003- 05) with the Wolverines. The Palmyra, Pa. native is all-time leader as a goalkeeper in games played (79) and wins (57) while ranking in the top five in career saves (358), career shutouts (16) and career goals against average (1.34) at Michigan. Following her senior season, Riley was named Second Team All-Big Ten and Second Team NFHCA All-Region. The three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honoree was named to the Conference's All-Tournament Team in 2005. In three appearances in the NCAA Tournament with Riley in the cage, the Wolverines captured four wins and made a trip to the semifinals in 2003. Riley graduated with a Bachelor's of Art degree in Sport Management in April 2007. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2004-06) and four-time Michigan Scholar-Athlete award-winner (2003-06), was twice recognized on the national stage with NFHCA All-Academic recognition (2003, '06). Additionally, Riley served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative. Before arriving at Temple, Riley participated in three separate coaching stints with University of Michigan instructional camps (2004-2007), the United States Field Hockey Association (2005-07) and Shippensburg University instructional camps (2006-07). As a goalkeeper coach with the USFHA Futures Program and at several camps, Riley worked with former and current college players and coaches in in- troducing and developing skills with prospective college players. Remaining active as player, Riley was a member of the Team Dita squad that captured the 2008 Big Apple Memorial Six-A-Side Championship as well as a member of the Mid-State squad that captured the 2008 Keystone State Games Indoor Championship.

A University of Pennsylvania graduate (B.A. Geology, May '08), Kelsey Nickles was a four-year letter winner and helped lead the Quakers to a 2004 Co-Ivy League Championship. A starter of 24 games in her career at Penn, Nickles joined TU's staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2009. Nickles was a graduate of Ocean City High School where she was a two-time state champion in field hockey, earning Mid-Atlantic Regional All-American honors. She has dedicated some of her time to coaching, working with the Sandy Sticks Field Hockey Camp from 2004-2006, and two years ago was an assistant coach and site director for the United States Field Hockey Association Futures program.

Facing one of the strongest schedules in the region, the Owls did not back down as a late season surge propelled them into con- tenon for the A-10 tle. During the 2009 season, TU faced off against five teams that qualified for the 16-team NCAA Tourna- ment and eight teams that spent me in the NFHCA top 20 poll during the season. Both the offense and defense posted strong showings at var- ious mes throughout the season. Defensively, the Owls posted four shutouts during the ’09 campaign, including a 3-0 shutout of Saint Joseph’s in the Atlanc 10 semifinals. However, impressive numbers were not limited to the defense as the offense exploded for six goals against Saint Louis and four goals against eventual A- 10 champion Richmond during the same weekend.

Charise Young and Thomas Masterson (men’s crew), named the Male and Female Student-Athlete s of the Year at the eighth annual Breakfast of Champions. The two are joined by PNC President Bill Mills (right) and Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. Later in the year, Young was named to the ESPN the Maga- zine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, and was also hon- ored as Temple’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Senior Mandi Ruth and sophomore Bridget Seles were both named to the A-10 Second Team. Seles was the leading scorer for the Owls as she posted 12 goals and four assists. Ruth chipped in with four goals and six assists on the season. Freshman Taylor Musser was named to the A-10 All-Rookie team. Musser finished the season with a goal and an assist as she provided speed at the midfield posion for Janney. Juniors Bridget Settles and Becca Keener along with sophomore Katie Briglia were on the New Jersey Junior High Peformance Center Travel Squad, and sophomore Taylor Musser trained with the Penn- sylvania Junior HPC travel squad. Head coach Amanda Janney was an assistant coach and the administrator for the New Jersey Sen- ior HPC team and assistant coach Beth Riley was an assistant coach for the New Jersey Junior HPC team. After an impressive showing in Virginia Beach, Dalrymple was invited to train with the USA National Field Hockey Team Development Squad in San Diego. As the goalkeeper for the champion New Jersey Team, Dalrymple posted two shutouts and started all five games as the team went 4-0- 1 en route to winning the championship with a 1-0 victory. Also at the National Championships, Settles was recognized as the highest goal scorer in the juniors, with five goals in five games. The highest goal-scorer at the senior level tallied four goals. Settles was given a plaque by the National Team Coach during the Women's High Performance Banquet Dinner.
