Myers Geographic Resources Center, University of Missouri Columbia, MO 65211 Robert Massengale Missouri Department of Conservation Jefferson City, MO 65102 Abstract: Conversion of forestland to agricultural uses continues in Missouri, but at a much slower rate than around the turn of the century. Yet, impacts of these changes on resource management and outdoor recreation are important. This study was initiated to determine the current amount and distribution of forestland by county and statewide. Forest/non-forest determinations were made from photographic images generated by a LANDSAT satellite Thematic Mapper (TM). Tabular estimates of forestland and detailed maps were provided on a county and statewide basis. An estimated 13,811,718 acres of forestland were identified. This represents 31.0% of the land area of Missouri. Forestland by county ranged from 2.0 to 87.4%. Fifty percent of forestland tracts were 10.0-49.9 acres in size. Key Words: distribution, forestland, Missouri, range, status Introduction The timber resource is important to the people of Missouri. In 1983, approximately 2000 firms not only produced forest products and related services worth almost $3 billion, but also employed 33,000 people who earned $483 million in wages (Phelps and Smith 1985). In addition, forestlands provide recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat, watershed protection and aesthetic values more difficult to estimate. Forestland inventories have been conducted periodically in Missouri (King et a!. 1949, Gansner 1965, Spencer and Essex 1976). Yet, due to continued loss of forests primarily to agricultural uses (USDA 1978, Othic eta!. 1982), updated inventory data were needed to evaluate trends in forestland conversion and potential impacts on forest wildlife species. In 1984, the Missouri Department of Conservation, in cooperation with the Geographic Resources Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia, initiated a study to determine the current status of forestland in Missouri. The purpose of this paper is to present detailed data on forestland by county and statewide. ADVAITA, CALEB A. MORSE1,2 AND DOUGLAS LADD3 ABSTRACT. – A total of 154 lichens, four lichenicolous fungi, and one allied fungus were collected by the authors from 2004 to 2015 from Pipestone National Monument (PNM), in Pipestone County, on the Prairie Coteau of southwestern Minnesota. Twelve additional species collected by previous researchers, but not found by the authors, bring the total number of taxa known for PNM to 171. This represents a substantial increase over previous reports for PNM, likely due to increased intensity of field work, and also to the marked expansion of corticolous and anthropogenic substrates since the site was first surveyed in 1899. Reexamination of 116 vouchers deposited in MIN and the PNM herbarium led to the exclusion of 48 species previously reported from the site. Crustose lichens are the most common growth form, comprising 65% of the lichen diversity. Sioux Quartzite provided substrate for 43% of the lichen taxa collected. Saxicolous lichen communities were characterized by sampling four transects on cliff faces and low outcrops. An annotated checklist of the lichens of the site is provided, as well as a list of excluded taxa. We report 24 species (including 22 lichens and two lichenicolous fungi) new for Minnesota: Acarospora boulderensis, A. contigua, A. erythrophora, A. strigata, Agonimia opuntiella, Arthonia clemens, A. muscigena, Aspicilia americana, Bacidina delicata, Buellia tyrolensis, Caloplaca flavocitrina, C. lobulata, C.

HODKINSON ABSTRACT. – A taxonomic scheme for lichens and allied fungi that synthesizes scientific knowledge from a variety of sources is presented. The system put forth here is intended both (1) to provide a skeletal outline of the lichens and allied fungi that can be used as a provisional filing and databasing scheme by lichen herbarium/data managers and (2) to announce the online presence of an official taxonomy that will define the scope of the newly formed International Committee for the Nomenclature of Lichens and Allied Fungi (ICNLAF). The online version of the taxonomy presented here will continue to evolve along with our understanding of the organisms. Additionally, the subfamily Fissurinoideae Rivas Plata, Lücking and Lumbsch is elevated to the rank of family as Fissurinaceae. En este trabajo se presenta la diversidad de líquenes que se desarrollan sobre árboles nativos e intro- ducidos en las avenidas y áreas verdes, urbanas y suburbanas de Morelia. Se enlistan 49 especies distribuidas en 26 géneros y 10 familias, de las cuales, 39 se registran por primera vez para Morelia e incluyen 27 nuevas citas para el estado de Michoacán y una para México (Hyperphyscia isidiata). Las familias Physciaceae y Parmelia- ceae fueron las mejor representadas con el 71% de las especies registradas. El 69,39% presentan talo foliáceo y el 30,61% talo crustáceo; mientras que los líquenes fruticulosos estuvieron ausentes en el área. Palabras clave: hongos liquenizados; epífitos; ciudad de Morelia. In this paper is presented the diversity of lichens that develop on the native and introduced trees of the avenues and green areas from the urban and suburban zones of Morelia. 49 species distributed in 26 genera and 10 families were listed. From these, 39 were reported for the first time in Morelia including 27 new reports from Michoacan state and one from Mexico (Hyperphyscia isidiata). Physciaceae and Parmeliaceae families were the best represented with 71% of the recorded species. The 69.39% have foliose tallus and 30.61% crustose tallus; while fruticose lichens were absent in the area.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The new lichen genus Orcularia, based on Rinodina sect. Orcularia, is described. It is characterized by Orcularia-type ascospores and filiform conidia. So far the newly described O. elixii as well as O. insperata (type species), O. placodiomorpha and O. placodiomorphoides are found to belong to this genus. Descriptions, illustrations and a key for them are provided. Key words: lichenized Ascomycota, Australia, taxonomy Introduction Preliminary phylogenetic studies revealed that neither Buellia De Notaris (apothecia without a thalline exciple) (Nordin 2000, Helms et al. 2003) nor Rinodina (Ach.) Gray (apothecia with a thalline exciple) (Nadyeina et al. 2010, Sheard 2010) are monophyletic. In both genera, well differentiated species or groups of species were detected, often with a unique spore type. Species or species-groups that shared other diagnostic characters in addition to the spore-type were segregated into new or resurrected genera [e.g. Buellia s. str. (= Hafellia Kalb, H.
