Reflexiones Sobre La Acondroplasia En ESCUELA NACIONAL DE ANTROPOLOGÍA E HISTORIA I N A H S E P DIVISION DE POSGRADOS POSGRADO EN ANTROPOLOGÍA FÍSICA ENAH ¿DEL SUELO A LA CABEZA O DE LA CABEZA AL CIELO? 2 Con todo el amor para mi “Major Tom” Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles I'm feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go… Y he visto a muchos, y los conozco. ¿Cómo van a acabar bien? Richards There are two ways of looking at down- town Michigan City – as a glass half full or a glass half empty. Ever since major retail- ers like Sears and J.C. Penney left down- town in the 1970s for Marquette Mall, the prevailing view has been a glass half empty. Not any more. Thanks to some visionary entrepreneurs with a glass half full atti- tude, more than $2 million in development is taking place in the six blocks of Franklin Street between Fourth and 10th streets. Mike Howard, owner of Station 801, a restaurant at the corner of Eighth and Franklin streets, is excited about a resur- gent downtown. “I think one day it’s coming back,” said Howard, who with partner Jerry Peters, The original signage and some of the original glassware from the 1941-era Peters Dairy Bar that operated on Michigan Boulevard is now a part of the new recently purchased the former Argabright Peters Dairy Bar at 803 Franklin Street. Communications building at 803 Franklin St., remodeled it and opened the Cedar Sub Shop and Peters Dairy Bar. “One of the reasons we bought the build- ing is that we’re seeing things happening downtown on a positive side,” said How- ard. After purchasing the building, Howard tore out some walls, did a bit of minor re- modeling and made a phone call to Debbie Rigterink, who used to operate the Cedar Sub Shop at the Cedar Tap.

Over time it became an annual festival with carnival rides and carnival food; eventually there was a longer parade and nonprofit status. And for a brief, shining period, there were genuine celebrity visitors in the form of geriatric actors who had portrayed Munchkins in the 1939 film. Otto Volumes 32 through 45: Richard R. Rutter Dedications The Baum Bugle’s editors for giving Oz fans insights into the wonderful world of Oz. Fred E. Otto [1927-95] for launching the indexing project. Peter E. Hanff for his assistance and encouragement during the creation of this third edition of The Baum Bugle Index (1957-2001). Fred M. Meyer, my mentor during more than a quarter century in Oz. Introduction Founded in 1957 by Justin G. Schiller, The International Wizard of Oz Club brings together thousands of diverse individuals interested in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and this classic’s author, L. Frank Baum. The forty-four volumes of The Baum Bugle to-date play an important rôle for the club and its members. Despite the general excellence of the journal, the lack of annual or cumulative indices, was soon recognized as a hindrance by those pursuing research related to The Wizard of Oz. The late Fred E. Otto (1925-1994) accepted the challenge of creating a Bugle index proposed by Jerry Tobias. With the assistance of Patrick Maund, Peter E. Hanff, and Karin Eads, Fred completed a first edition which included volumes 1 through 28 (1957-1984). A much improved second edition, embracing all issues through 1988, was published by Fred Otto with the assistance of Douglas G. Greene, Patrick Maund, Gregory McKean, and Peter E.

  • O FEITICEIRO DE OZ Título Original: the Wizard of Oz Realização: Victor Fleming (EUA, 1939);
    FÓRUM MUNICIPAL LUÍSA TODI | SETÚBAL | SEGUNDA-FEIRA 03 DE AGOSTO DE 2020 - 21H00 MASTERCLASS: FILMES QUE EU AMO (n.º 34) – (entrada livre) O FEITICEIRO DE OZ Título original: The Wizard of Oz Realização: Victor Fleming (EUA, 1939); O que faz de um filme um “clássico”? A sua qualidade intrínseca, é óbvio, mas, mais do que isso, a sua intemporalidade. Um clássico é um filme que se viu nos anos 40, nos 80 e se vê hoje em dia com idêntica satisfação (por vezes a patine do tempo acrescenta-lhe interesses renovados). Um intemporal, por muito que por vezes esteja intimamente ligado a um determinado período ou corrente estética. “O Feiticeiro de Oz” muito rapidamente conquistou esta designação, de todo em todo justa. Mas, para que o “clássico” o seja, é necessário que sucessivas gerações a ele tenham acesso. Se só se virem filmes recentes, como está quase a acontecer nas salas portuguesas ou nos canais de televisão generalistas, os “clássicos”, sem público, tendem a ser esquecidos. Por isso é importante, sempre que possível, mostrar os clássicos e demonstrar, sobretudo às gerações mais jovens, que o cinema também tem uma História. Vejam-se, portanto, os clássicos eternos, como é o caso de “O Feiticeiro de Oz”. O FEITICEIRO DE OZ (1939) “O Feiticeiro de Oz”, cuja realização aparece assinada por Victor Fleming, teve igualmente a colaboração de alguns outros realizadores, segundo rezam as lendas e proclamam os historiadores de cinema: Richard Thorpe rodou cerca de duas semanas, George Cuckor dirigiu dois ou três dias de filmagens, King Vidor terminaria a rodagem (sobretudo as sequências inicial e final, em Kansas) na última semana, pois Victor Fleming já estava noutra, ocupando-se de “E Tudo o Vento Levou”, Busby Berkeley como coreógrafo, mas também com funções de realizador em várias fases do projeto.

  • Munchkins Have a Local
    July 5, 2007 Munchkins Have a Local Fan to Thank Theater Owner Helps Secure a Star on Hollywood’s World Famous Walk of Fame Hollywood Blvd Cinema Owner Ted Bulthaup snuggles up to for 'Oz' actors by Joseph Ruzich one of the seven surviving Munchkins, Margaret Pellegrini. On the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, Godzilla has a star, as do Soupy Sales, Van- na White and the Rugrats. Heck, even Ryan Seacrest has one. But before now you couldn't find a star representing an integral group of actors who appeared in "The Wizard of Oz." "I couldn't understand why the Munchkins didn't have one," said Ted Bulthaup, whose Woodridge movie house holds annual screenings of the 1939 American classic. Bulthaup -- who became friends with the seven surviving Munchkins after hiring them several years ago to host his annual event -- decided to spearhead the nomination pro- cess. He paid a nomination fee of $25,000 to get the process going. After getting turned down initially in 2005, Bulthaup decided to give it a second try this last April. Only this time, he reached out to some of his heavy hitting friends, calling on Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Hugh Hefner, Ted Turner, Roger Ebert and major Holly- wood film companies such as Sony, Warner Bros, Universal, Disney, Paramount and MGM. "I just started calling friends to make a direct appeal, or other friends who had con- tacts with other people that made sense," Bulthaup said. "We even got an endorsement let- ter from the State of Kansas” and the Producers of the hit Broadway Play, “Wicked!” Soon, calls and letters of support began to come in.
