The Pushkaram festival was last held in the year 2003; this year the Pushkaram was called Maha Kumbhamela which occurs once in every 144 years. The first 12 days of Godavari Pushkaram is called Aadhi Pushkaram and the last 12 days of Godavari Pushkaram is called Anthya Pushkaram. These 24 days are very important to devotees as pushkaradu travels during these days. This was the single largest event in India where 40,000,000 pilgrims visited the pushkar ghats in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. www.hitex.co.in 3 Greater Hyderabad is a mega city that covers 625 sq. km. of municipal corporation area and 6,852 sq. km. of metropolitan area. It is fast emerging as the hub of IT/ITES, Biotech, Pharma and Tourism sectors. Its strategic geographical location, multilingual and cosmopolitan culture, tremendous growth potential and investment- friendly economic policy are all making it an attractive destination for corporate, entrepreneurs, academicians and homemakers alike. Transportation in a metro city plays a vital role, especially in a city like Hyderabad. To create an efficient, safe, reliable, economical and world class public transportation system in Hyderabad that will facilitate the city’s transformation as a competitive global city with high quality of life is the core mission of Hyderabad Metro Rail. The main idea behind the concept of Metro Rail is to make sure commuters reach on time to work and are not delayed on account of lack of rapid transport. Growing urbanizations requires projects like the Metro Rail that will allow them to bypass traffic congestions. Permit me to point out some of the advantages of the Metro. The Metro Rail System has proven to be most efficient in terms of energy consumption, space occupancy and numbers transported. It has high- capacity carriers for very high volume of traffic during peak hour trips and is simultaneously eco-friendly that causes no air pollution, much less sound pollution and low energy consumption. COO MESSAGE 4 Point of View bi-monthly | August 2015 Issue | VOL. 14 Greater traffic capacity empowers The Metro to carry as much traffic as 7 lanes of bus traffic or 24 lanes of car traffic, either way. Metro Rail has a very low ground space occupation with 2 meter width only for elevated rail and of course, faster which help reduce journey time by 50% to 75%. It is an elevated metro rail, with two tracks both up and down lines on a deck erected on pillars generally in the central median of the road, without obstructing the road traffic. The stations are located at an average interval of 1km elevated stations with passenger access through staircases, escalators and lifts. Adequate parking space and circulating areas are being provided for multi-modal integration at the stations. With a frequency of 3 to 5 minutes during peak hours, the system is expected to carry about 17 lakh passengers per day by 2017 and 22 lakh by 2024. I am happy to state that visitors to HITEX Exhibition Center will be able to use the services of Metro Rail, with the nearest station being HITEC city, about 1.5 kms away. It is estimated that HMR will be catering to 15 lakh passengers by 2016-17 covering a distance of 72 kilometers, with stations at every kilometer. HMR is poised to redefine the city’s transportation. It is an urban rejuvenation and redesign endeavor that will transform Hyderabad into a commuter- friendly, modern and green city. Prioritization of green spaces, open spaces and an elevated Metro Rail mass transit system are going to be the hallmarks of a great city in the 21st century. HMR’s concept for the city involves up-gradation and remodeling traffic corridors and change the way people commute from one end to the other. The design is eco-friendly, consumes no fossil fuels and the concept of each station being just one kilometer apart brings Metro Rail on to the citizen’s doorstep. Abstract: Timothy Jones, University of East Anglia, 2014 Supervisors: Rayna Denison and Keith Johnston Animating Community examines the cultural practices of animators in India, and particularly the role of practitioner testimony in conceiving and negotiating social structures underpinning the nascent Indian animation industry. Recognizing a tendency in practitioner accounts towards theorization of contested industrial discourses, this research takes as its object the reflexive practice of animators in trade texts and interviews. These reveal how local practitioners understand production culture as an emergent phenomenon, resulting from learned processes of negotiation and collective action. However, practitioner testimony also reflects dramatically different degrees of agency in cultural production and discourse. Focusing on the identity work of diverse creative professionals – corporate elites, freelancers, teachers, and students – reveals underlying tensions between global industrial constraints and local social capital. Based on discursive analysis of testimony, this thesis asks how Indian animation practitioners conceive of their creative activity and identity in relation to negotiating a culture of animation production, and how the shared discourses and modes of engagement that result both shape and are shaped by institutional structures.

GRAPHIC NOVEL: The term "graphic novel" was first coined in 1964 by Richard Kyle in a newsletter published by the Comic Amateur Press Alliance. The current global market comic books is estimated to be well over $950 Million out of which $385 Million is said to be contributed by periodical comics. The number of readers in India has also seen a tremendous upswing with growth rate of an average of 25% per year. INCEPTION: Way back in late 80s, our own film production house had produced couple of hit films like Bhakta Salbeg and School Master. Soon after these successful hits we planned for an action adventure War epic film on Lord Shri Jagannath which is very famous in Odisha and the story is widely known as KANCHI ABHIYAAN.

  • Comics Conferences Over the Last Several Decades There Has Been A
    Comics Conferences Over the last several decades there has been a steady rise in the number, size and frequency of scholarly comics conferences. The character and purpose of these gatherings has changed considerably during this time, in part due to the establishment of Comics Studies as an academic field, and partly due to their relationship with fan events, which have grown to huge proportions in recent years. This chapter will first set out a historical overview of the rise of scholarly comics conferences before offering a number of case studies of the key global events, with an emphasis on academic events, wider academic events with comics strands, and finally the emergence of scholarly comics strands within public and fan-based events. Surveying the history demonstrates that while the number of comics events has increased, this has come at the cost of some diversity and that the relationships between fans, practitioners and scholars are mutually beneficial but sometimes problematic. In Arguing Comics: Literary Masters on a Popular Medium (2004) editors Jeet Heer and Kent Worchester demonstrate through a range of writing about comics by the likes of e.e. cummings, Gilbert Seldes, Dorothy Parker, Irving Howe, and Delmore Schwartz, that serious interest in the medium predates the formulation of Comics Studies, or even the formal academic study of popular culture. Such writings, many of them from the first half of the twentieth century, celebrated the mass appeal of comics, and sometimes their artistry, but few sought to understand the mechanics of the medium or its history. A similar point is made by John Lent (2010) in his article, “The Winding, Pot-holed Road of Comic Art Scholarship”, identifies the barriers that have existed in academia, and the fact that much of the early critical work happened outside of the academy, and much historical research was done by fans and collectors.
