Brendan Croker rock & Steve Phillips Mark Knopfler’s co-Notting Hillbillies / A first appearance at Carnegie Hall by two mates of long standing blues who just have a great time playing together. The pedigree of the duo guarantees the audience will have a great time too. You might not know the name but the chances are you’ll have heard Brendan Croker singing and playing alongside the likes of Michelle Shocked, Mark Knopfler, Tanita Tikaram, John Mayall, Eric Clapton and many, many more besides. Brendan’s passion for music spans over thirty years, five of which he spent as a songwriter in and out of Nashville. While he was there, he wrote a multi-platinum selling song for Wynona Judd and lost $100 to Joe Ely in a dodgy game of pool. He is one of Britain’s great Bluesmen. Steve Phillips is; “One of the greatest Blues guitarists Europe has produced and currently one of the finest anywhere in the world. His recent involvement with Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) in The Notting Hillbillies briefly turned Phillips into a kind of rock star (featuring on the cover of Q magazine no less!)” Trevor Hodgett, Blueprint Magazine. When not fulfilling a busy diary of solo acoustic dates throughout the continent, he occasionally feels the urge to assemble a collection of North Yorkshire’s finest, The Rough Diamonds, and bring a little bar room boogie and Western Swing to a wider audience. About the Filmmakers Although he is known primarily as an author, Timothy Ferris has been involved in television since age sixteen, when he wrangled seagulls for NBC’s Omnibus and shot film for the Tonight show. While in high school he anchored a live Saturday-morning panel program, Youth Meets Business, which he describes today as “so stultifyingly boring that I believe its only viewers some mornings were our parents,” and played a defense attorney in a youth-oriented courtroom drama “that even our parents gave up watching.” Undaunted, Ferris went on to write and present two PBS specials — The Creation of the Universe and Life Beyond Earth. The two aired back-to-back in 1999, making Ferris one of the few nonfiction filmmakers to have an entire night of prime-time network programming devoted to his work. In addition to producing, writing, and narrating Seeing in the Dark, Ferris shot several of its time-lapse sequences, made field recordings for its soundtrack, and designed its special effects. Ferris is the author of ten books, including Seeing in the Dark, on which the film is based, named by The New York Times as one of the ten best books of the year. He produced the Voyager phonograph record, an artifact of human civilization launched aboard the twin Voyager interstellar spacecraft and now exiting the outer reaches of the solar system, and was among the journalists selected as candidates to fly aboard the space shuttle in 1986. Vicente Amigo Tierra Different. Global. Surprising. That's how you can describe Vicente Amigo's new album Tierra, the most innovative and international of his career which will be released in February 2013. The great Flamenco guitar player has opened his music's window to the fresh air of the British producer Guy Fletcher and recorded in London with musicians from Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler and Capercaillie, in order to offer an exceptional and brave album in which Flamenco music blends naturally with other music styles, opening new paths without losing depth, holding tightly to the inspirational Southern Spanish sounds but wrapped in Celtic melodies, linking light and mist, hovering over different styles to create something completely new. “I met Guy in Córdoba last year, at a Mark Knopfler show during the Guitar Festival”, says Vicente Amigo. “We were introduced by the show's promoters, and the initial idea of playing a song with them developed into a new main objective: I wanted to fuse with all those great musicians. John Illsley – Live In London (74:13, CD,Absolute /Rough Trade, 2015) Bevor wir im Einzelnen auf das Album eingehen, muss vorausgeschickt werden, dass die Analyse unseres hauseigenen Labors ergeben hat, dass dieses Produkt keine nachweisbaren Spuren von Prog enthält, obwohl die Zutatenliste (Cover) dies durchaus hätte vermuten lassen können. Was also erwartet den Hörer? Der Ex-Dire-Straits-Bassist legt hier ein ordentliches, wenn auch unspektakuläres Live-Album vor, welches ganz in der Tradition seiner ehemaligen Band daher kommt. Exakt so könnten sich die Dire Straits in ihren frühen Tagen in einem kleinen Club angehört haben. Simon Johnson agiert als „Mark Knopfler- Darsteller“ souverän an der Gitarre.Illsley selbst ist stimmlich auch sehr nahe bei seinem alten Buddy. Die Truppe spielt locker zusammen und nebenbei ist der Klang der CD auch ausgezeichnet. Die Tracklist besteht zu einem großen Teil aus Dire Straits- Klassikern und Illsley-Solo-Material. ‚Walk Of Life‘ mag man möglicherweise nicht mehr hören. Dann gilt das Gleiche auch für ‚Money For Nothing‘. DieIllsley -Songs fallen hier zumindest nicht negativ auf. Bis auf ‚Streets Of Heaven‘ und ‚When God Made Time‘ lassen sie aber auch nicht wirklich aufhorchen. Stilistisch könnte man sie in etwa in die frühe Dire Straits-Phase bis „Making Movies“ einordnen. Dazu finden sich mit ‚Another Brick In The Wall‘ und ‚First We Take Manhattan‘ auch zwei Cover-Versionen auf dem Album – von denen Illsley allerdings besser die Finger gelassen hätte. Ersteres kann ich schon im Original nur noch selten genießen und ‚First We Take Manhattan‘ macht im „Sultans Of Swing“-Outfit auch keine glückliche Figur.

He is one of the world’s top session guitarists, having played on more than 450 albums and toured with a list of some the world’s greatest artists that is too long to mention; think of a name and Phil has probably played with that person. He was also a member of Eric Clapton’s band along with his DS Legacy colleagues Alan Clark and Steve Ferrone. ALAN CLARK Piano, Hammond Organ and Keyboards Alan joined Dire Straits in 1980, becoming their first and main keyboard player, and played on every tour and record thereafter until the band’s eventual breakup in the mid-1990s. He also co-produced the “On Every Street” album with Knopfler. He has played and recorded with many other artists and was a member of Eric Clapton’s band for several years while Dire Straits took a break, and was Tina Turner’s musical director at the height of her career.
