Staff

Nick Aiello: Nick is a current associate scout with the Tampa Bay Rays in the Four Corners Region. He played his college baseball at the University of Southern Idaho. He was drafted in the 50th round of the 2001 MLB Amateur Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He went on to play three seasons in the Devil Ray organization. After his playing career, he went back to his alma mater, Durango High School to help their baseball program. Nick is entering his 5th season as an assistant baseball coach at Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Steve Bernhardt: Steve has been with the Baseball Factory since 1998, after his five-year playing career in the Colorado Rockies organization. As Executive VP of Baseball Operations, he oversees all Baseball Factory events and instruction. Steve currently serves as an Associate Scout with the Colorado Rockies. He received his B.S. from the University of Richmond where he was an All-Conference player.

Brian Betancourth: Brian played his college baseball at Mount San Jacinto Junior College in Southern California. During the summer after his freshman season, he played in the West Coast Collegiate Summer League for the Santa Barbara Foresters who went onto to win the summer league World Series. After his collegiate career, Brian went on to play for the Long Beach Armada in the , an independent professional league on the West Coast. He currently serves as an assistant baseball coach at Valley View HS and assists at the Under Armour tryouts.

Matt Blaney: Matt has been working various national Baseball Factory and Team One events since 2003. He played his college baseball at Villanova University and went on to become a knuckleball pitcher in the Dodger and Red Sox organizations. After his playing career, he scouted for the and worked in the front office with the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros.

Bill Bliss: Bill is a current minor league pitching coach with the Philadelphia Phillies. Before joining the Phillies he was an area scouting supervisor for the . Before his scouting career, Bill was drafted in the 2nd round by the Chicago Cubs in 1991 of the MLB Amateur Draft. He was with the Chicago Cubs for the four years and was then traded to the Colorado Rockies and played with them for two seasons. Bill played his college baseball at Villanova University.

Pete Buck: Pete has been working various national Baseball Factory events since 2004. He played his college baseball at Towson University in Maryland. After his collegiate career he went on to play in the independent league. After his playing career was over, he went on to work in the front office for the Gateway Grizzlies. He had also coached at the collegiate level at Coppin State and Towson Universities.

Jason Budden: Jason joined the Baseball Factory in 1997 while still a junior in high school. After going through the Baseball Factory's college recruiting program he was placed at Johns Hopkins University where he played two years of college baseball before graduating with a degree in Economics. After working part- time at the Factory throughout college, Jason joined the team as a full-time employee in January 2002 when he was promoted to Director of Marketing. He currently oversees all marketing projects and sponsorship opportunities at Baseball Factory. He is also in charge of development and marketing for Baseball University, the leader in online baseball education and a division of Baseball Factory.

Tony Diaz: Tony Diaz is currently the Manager of the Casper Rockies, a single A-affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Diaz was drafted by the Anaheim Angels in 1995, but his career was cut short by an arm injury. He graduated from Florida International University with a marketing degree in 1998 and joined the Colorado Rockies organization in 2000. Diaz served as a hitting coach in the Arizona Rookie League for one season before joining the Casper staff in the same capacity in 2001.

Justin Duarte: Justin has been working with the Baseball Factory since 2006 at various national tryouts. He played his college baseball at Azusa Pacific University where earned All-American honors as a . Justin was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1999 MLB Amateur Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent three seasons in the Phillies organization and made it as high as AA with the . After his playing career he went back to his alma mater and help the Cougars win a GSAC conference title. They eventually made it to the NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. Justin is currently an assistant baseball coach at the University of La Verne.

Andy Ferguson: Andy is the Senior Director of Baseball Operations at the Baseball Factory. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University. He joined the baseball team as a walk-on, and went on to solidify his role on a team that participated in four consecutive NCAA Regionals. He followed his playing career with a season coaching for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and then joined the Baseball Factory for the first time shortly after - eventually assuming the role of Director of Scouting. At the same time, he also served as an Associate Scout - first for the and later for the San Diego Padres.

Dan Forester: Dan Joined the Baseball Factory in 2001 as a Player Development Coordinator. Dan has been working with high school athletes since 1993 when he was a teacher and coach at that level. Dan got his undergrad degree from Ithaca College where he played D-III lacrosse.

Jim Gemler: Jim is the Director of On-field Sessions for the Baseball Factory. He schedules, organizes and executes all Under Armour National Tournament Team Tryouts across the country. Prior to joining the Factory, Jim coached at the University of Akron and Penn State Behrend. Gemler's playing career included a stop at the University of North Carolina - Asheville before he transfered to the University of Akron. He received numerous accolades while at Akron including Preseason All Mid-American Conference candidate, Collegiate Baseball "Top Prospect," Mid-American Conference All Academic Team and Akron's Defensive Player of the Year.

Ted Heid: Ted is the current director of Pacific Rim Operations for the . This will be Ted’s 12th season with the Mariners in their scouting department. He played his college baseball at BYU and earned degrees in International Business and Japanese Language. Notable players signed are All-Star outfielder , closer Kazuhiro Sasaki, and catcher Kenji Johjima. He is also the founder and director of the Arizona Baseball Academy, Arizona Senior and Junior Fall Classics.

Brian Johnson: Brian started as a video intern with the Baseball Factory in the summer of 2004 while working on his Bachelors of Art from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He graduated Cum Laude from the UMBC Imaging and Digital Arts program with a minor in Sociology. His IMDA focus was in Interactivity while he also took film/video courses. Brian played varsity lacrosse for 5 years with the UMBC Retrievers. He became the Media Designer for the Baseball Factory in the spring of 2006 where he helps in all aspects of video production, graphic design, and website design.

Jimmy Johnson: Jimmy brings 37 years of professional baseball experience to the Baseball Factory. He managed professionally from – AAA with the Colorado Rockies. He was also the infield, hitting, and field coordinator for the Rockies. He is the current hitting coordinator with the Colorado Rockies and also does professional hitting and defensive lessons in the Phoenix area. He played professionally for seven seasons with the Houston Astros and has coached the Senior National Team in Prague.

Matt Kirby: Matt has been with the Baseball Factory since 2000. Matt started as a video intern while finishing his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media & Film at Towson University in Baltimore, MD. As Creative Director, Matt directs all of Baseball Factory & affiliate's Video Production, Web Design/Development, & Graphic Design. Matt happily resides in Baltimore City with his wife & daughter.

Kelly Kulina: As Vice President of the Exclusive Program, Kelly is in contact with hundreds of colleges, helping to find the best fit for each Exclusive Player in Baseball Factory. Kelly is a former Associate Head Coach and recruiting coordinator with the University of Maryland. As a former recruiting coordinator for ten years in the ACC, Kelly has vast contacts and is widely respected throughout the nation. Along with the contacts that Kelly has gained from being a recruiting coordinator, is the considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations of entering into a college baseball program. He will be able to provide the guidance and information for the Exclusive Player to be eligible to play college baseball. From 1989 to 2000, he coached 46 players who were drafted by , two of which were drafted in the first round, including Philadelphia Phillies' pitcher Eric Milton. He also coached at Palm Beach Community College and Jacksonville University, where he played his collegiate baseball.

David Lax: Dave started with Baseball Factory in June of 2006. Dave is currently the Assistant Director of Marketing having earned his degree in Business from the University of Maryland, College Park. He majored in Marketing and minored in Communication. At Maryland, he played on the Scout Basketball Team for three years, where he was part of the National Championship team in 2006. In addition to his marketing responsibilities Dave serves as the administrator for Baseball University and helps design and maintain the website.

Bill Lockwood: Bill has been working various Baseball Factory and Team One National events since 2005. He played his college baseball at Washington State University and was a two-time All Pac-10 player for the Cougars. Signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979 and played three seasons in their minor league system. As an amateur coach he has won 7 National and World titles. Very instrumental in the development and placement of over 40 division 1 collegiate athletes and has seen over 10 of his players drafted in amateur draft. Bill is the founder of the elite travel team, the All American Prospects and Team Florida USA. Bill is currently a special assignment and associate scout with the Atlanta Braves in Tampa, Florida.

Dan Mooney: Dan serves as a Personal Recruiting Director in the Exclusive Program. Dan will work along side Kelly Kulina and the rest of the Exclusive staff with a focus on helping players improve their baseball and life skills. Dan began his collegiate career as a catcher at Brevard Junior College. He later transferred to North Carolina State University where he was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer. After college, Dan played professionally in the Boston Red Sox organization where he reached the double-A level before being forced to retire after an injury.

Mike Moore: Mike has been working with the Baseball Factory since 2006 at various national tryouts. He coached independent ball in the Frontier League. He was also a minor league instructor with the Florida Marlins. Before his coaching career he played his college baseball at WVU and then went on to play with in the organization.

Steve Nagler: Steve joined the Baseball Factory in 2001 as a Player Development Coordinator and was promoted to Senior Player Development Coordinator in 2006. He received his degree in Sports Management/Business Administration from Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh, PA in 1989. Since joining the Baseball Factory, Steve has worked with hundreds of high school baseball players, providing guidance in college recruiting and identifying ways for them to improve on their baseball abilities. Steve works with players from the Midwest, Northeast, Texas and Nevada.

Freddie Ocasio: Freddie Ocasio spent the 2006 season as the Manager of the Tri-City Dust Devils. The Dust Devils are a Short-Season Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Ocasio had served as the Dust Devils' hitting coach for the last five years. Prior to joining the Dust Devils in 2001, Ocasio had stints as a coach for the Rockies' affiliates in Tucson and Salem (VA). He also spent two seasons as a player in the Colorado organization, playing for Asheville in 1994-95. He signed as a free agent with the Rockies in 1994 after a successful college career at Oklahoma State University.

John Perko: John joined the team at the Baseball Factory in 2004 as Team Sales Coordinator and was promoted to Director of Team Sales in 2006. Along with serving as the Company liaison for all equipment, apparel, and footwear sponsors and retail partners, John assists the CEO and Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations with designated projects and on-field events. John began his career in the sports industry by gaining experience from the two largest sports agencies in the world, IMG and Octagon. John also worked in the front office for the Cleveland Indians. A graduate from the Robert E. McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, the management and marketing double major also lettered in two varsity sports, the Hoyas division one baseball and football programs.

Ernie Ramirez: Ernie has worked for the Baseball Factory since 2002. He has served in the scouting, player development, and tryout departments. He played his college baseball at San Bernardino Valley College before transferring to Cal State San Bernardino. After his collegiate career he went on to coach at Moreno Valley and Eisenhower High Schools. Currently he is a private instructor in Southern California.

Justin Roswell: Justin joined the Baseball Factory in 2001 serving in the scouting, event coordination, and player development departments. Over the last two years he has become the Director for Team One Baseball, which is the showcase division of Baseball Factory. As Senior Director he heads up the player identification process for all Team One Regional Showcases. Justin also manages the day-to-day operations of Team One including the website. In addition to directing Team One Baseball, Justin also heads up the Under Armour Tournament Division. Justin graduated from California State University - Fullerton, where he received his degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis on management.

Vince Sacco: Vince is the former Director of On-Field Sessions for the Baseball Factory. He is also a former Associate Scout for the Cincinnati Reds. Vince played his college baseball at Jacksonville State and Jeff- Davis CC and coached at Siena Heights University.

Jeff Scholzen: Jeff has been the Area Scout for the Anaheim Angels for the last eight years. Before his scouting career, he played his college baseball at Utah Valley State and Eastern Oregon. After his collegiate career, he signed with the California Angels and played with them for two seasons. He was also the Head Baseball Coach at Southern Utah University for four seasons.

Matt Smith: Matt has been instructing for the Baseball Factory for the last four years at various player development events across the country. He currently works for the in the front office and throws batting practice to the Major League players. Most recently he was promoted as an Assistant with the Baseball Operations Department. Matt also travels with the club and throws batting practice at away and home games. He earned his degree from the University of California, San Diego where he also played the outfield for four years on the Triton Baseball team.

Ryan Smith: Ryan has been working with the Baseball Factory since 2006 at various national tryouts. He played his college baseball at Ohio Valley College and Penn State Behrend. After his playing career, he went on to coach at Penn State Behrend and Mercyhurst North East Junior College.

Rick Sofield: Rick served as the field coordinator for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, and and is a former AAA Manager for the Colorado Rockies. Sofield also coached at the college level serving as the Head Coach for the University of Utah and the Assistant Coach at the University of South Carolina. Sofield is a former first round pick in the major league draft for the Minnesota Twins and boasts three years of big league playing experience. Sofield will work in the Exclusive Program with a concentration on players from the West Coast. Rick will also continue to work select Baseball Factory and Team One player development events throughout the year.

Charlie Strasser: Charlie spent over 25 years as a Major League Trainer with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is one of the most respected men in his profession, playing an important part in several World Series Championships as well as being selected as a trainer in an All-Star Game.

Mike Terhune: Mike has been working various national Baseball Factory events since 2004. He played his college baseball at NC State. After his collegiate career he went on to play in the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves organizations and made it as high as AAA. After his playing career, he went on to coach in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer Collegiate League and Independent baseball.

Buck Thomas: Buck is entering his third draft year as an associate scout for the Anaheim Angels. He currently works under Jeff Scholzen, the Area Scouting Supervisor in the Four Corners Region. In addition to his scouting duties, he operates the Utah Marshals a summer travel ball club. Buck played his college baseball at t he University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo. After his collegiate career he went on to coach at Bishop Gorman H.S. and help bring two championships to the Gaels. Buck has been working with the Baseball Factory since 2006 at various national tryouts and tournaments.

Dean Treanor: Dean Treanor is the current manager of the in the (PCL) . Treanor has managed the 'Topes (Marlins) for the past three years, as well as in 2003, their inaugural season (he was Florida's Minor League pitching coordinator in 2004). Before joining the Marlins' organization in 2002, he served as pitching coach in the Los Angeles Dodgers system for several years, including 1999 and 2000 with the Triple-A Albuquerque Dukes, back when Albuquerque was a Dodgers' affiliate. Treanor also coached in the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians systems. A pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds' Minor League system for a few years in the early '70s, Treanor retired in 1975 due to shoulder trouble and was a police officer and undercover narcotics agent in the San Luis Obispo (Cal.) Police Department before returning to baseball in 1988.
