Blackburn Area News and Reports Vol. 50 No. 3 B A N A R February 2017 Hockey Day in the Hamlet This mural was painted by Norman Johnson School students and displayed in the Norman Johnson skating shack. The weather has not been co-operating! Please check the status of this event on the BCA website at www.blackburn.ca to verify that Hockey Day in the Hamlet will be held on Saturday, February 11th. Rink conditions may require it to be rescheduled. Hopefully we will have the perfect day with family and friends playing hockey, skating and enjoying a BBQ and hot chocolate (brought to us by the BGM real estate team—see page 11). If you have never skated on an outdoor rink, - it is an experience not be missed—during the day or late at night—it is magical and you will feel so Canadian! 2 • The BANAR February 2017 President’s message “So what exactly does the community association do?” It’s a question I’ve heard before from some Hamlet residents. A sure sign that 2017 will be a spectacular one for the Hamlet in respect to larger-than-ever events, advocacy and 23 Grandmothers Advocacy Network engagement opportunities. Inside are all the plans of the homes with “Introductory Prices” from $20,500 to $23,900. We wondered how anyone would be able to afford that! Some people, at the time, were worried and others were excited with this change in the community. In 1967 the Blackburn Community Club was made up of 40 paid-up members (family rate $3.00 and single rate $1.50) from families that lived on Renaud Road, Navan Road (up to Notre Dame Deschamp (NDC community), Cyrville Road (now Innes Road) starting at Blair Road and going east to and including families on Boyer Road and Belcourt Blvd.
