Eagle Football '98 2 The University

Meeting the educational needs of Eastern Kentucky while striving to constantly improve the quality of its public service, economic development and applied research programs are the primary objectives of Morehead State University. Historically the University trace its lineage to the Morehead Normal School, which opened its doors in 1887. The private school c losed in the spring of 1922 when the Kentucky General Assembly establi hed Morehead State Normal School. The tate institution accepted its first students in the fall of 1923 and graduated its first class in 1927. ame changes occurred in 1926 when "and Teachers College" was added, again in 1930 when it was shortened to M orehead State Teacher College, again in 1948 when "Teachers" was dropped and, finally, to univer ity status in 1966. Twelve men, starting with Dr. Frank C. Button, have served as president. Dr. Ronald G. Eaglin assumed office as the 12th president on July I, 1992. Academically, the University offer 72 undergraduate degree programs, including 15 associate level degrees and IO pre-professional programs in four colleges -- Business, Education and Behavioral Sciences, Humanities, and Science and Technology -- and 2 1 academic departments. There are 24 graduate degree program plus 2 graduate level non­ degree programs designed especially for professional educators. A post-master's level degree, education specialist , and a joint doctoral program with the University of Kentucky also are offered on the MSU campus. Athletic Facilities, Academic Opportunities

Jayne Stadium seats 10,000 fans and has press box facilities to handle more than 75 members of the news media. The main Eagle athletic training room is located at the Northwest comer of the stadium. The Phil Simms Weight Training Facility is located in the Northeast comer of the . tadium. Morehead State University offers a variety of aca­ demjc opportunities and outstanding instructi on, from hands-on research facilities and modern computer laboratories to award-winning profes­ sors.

Part of the Pageantry

AJways a part of Eagle football games are the MSU cheerleaders and march­ ing band. MSU's co-ed cherleading squad has won nine national champi­ onships, including eight in a row. The alJ-girl squad won its first national cham­ pionshi p lastJanuary. Both squads are pictured above with their trophies at the MGM Studios in Walt Disney World. The marching band program and all music programs at the University are highly rated. The band will present pre­ game and halftime shows throughout the season.
