A proven winner and respected mentor, Dino Babers was named the 30th head football coach at Syracuse University on Dec. 5, 2015. He owns a 45-32 (.584) career head coaching record and boasts more than 30 years of experience in the profession. At both of his previous head coaching stops, Babers led his teams to the postseason. As the head coach at Bowling Green, and before that Eastern Illinois, Babers won three conference championships, two division titles and the 2014 Raycom Camellia Bowl. It’s a championship pedigree that has served him well in reestablishing the Orange program. Known for his innovative, ultra-fast offense, Babers is in his third season on the Syracuse sideline. MAKING THE FALCONS FAST Babers took over the Bowling Green program in 2014 and led the Falcons to an 18-9 record in his two POSTSEASON COACHING years there, including victories over three Big Ten teams (Indiana - 2014; Maryland, Purdue - 2015). The Falcons went 8-6 in Babers’ first season and captured the MAC East Division title with a 5-3 league mark. EXPERIENCE Bowling Green lost the MAC title game to Northern Illinois, but rebounded for a 33-28 win versus South Alabama in the Camellia Bowl, BGSU’s first bowl victory since 2004. PROMINENT PLAYERS COACHED EXCELLENCE AT EASTERN ILLINOIS Babers excelled in his first head coaching position, leading Eastern Illinois to a 19-7 record during his Arizona State two-year stint, including a 14-1 mark against Ohio Valley Conference foes. His 2012 and 2013 Panther teams Darryl Clack, Running Back won the conference championship and earned berths in the FCS playoffs. Babers was named the Ohio Valley Purdue Conference Coach of the Year both seasons. Brian Alford, Wide Receiver In 2013, the Panthers finished 12-2, including an 8-0 conference record, and reached the FCS quarterfinals. The Panthers were ranked as high as No. 2 in the polls and led the nation in total yards per game (589.5) and San Diego State points per game (48.2). PROFESSIONAL BUILDING BLOCKS Eastern Illinois Prior to taking the helm at Eastern Illinois, Babers spent four seasons (2008-11) at Baylor in various Jimmy Garoppolo, Quarterback capacities. During his time in Waco, Babers worked as the special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator Kamu Grugier-Hill, Linebacker and outside receivers coach, guiding the careers of NFL stars like Terrance Williams and Josh Gordon. As a senior, he served as Hawaii’s special teams captain and was the squad’s leading rusher. After his last college season, Babers tried out for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) before an injury in training camp ended his playing career. Babers, who received his master’s degree in education administration and supervision from Arizona State in 1987, and his wife, Susan, have four daughters – Breeahnah, Tasha, Jazzmin and Paris. Jazzmin Babers was a member of the Texas A&M volleyball team from 2012-16. In 21 career games, Scoop Bradshaw (right) has eight pass breakups.
