We aim to inform you of changes to this timetable at stations and on our website. This timetable shows all First Capital Connect services operating between: King’s Lynn, Cambridge, Peterborough, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, Hertford North, London King’s Cross and Moorgate from 12 December 2010 to 21 May 2011. Details of First Capital Connect services on the Thameslink route are available in Train Times booklet B. 2 Welcome to First Capital Connect Welcome to the December 2010 edition of the Great Northern timetable. Capacity on the Great Northern route continues to be a top priority for First Capital Connect. Last year, as part of the Seats for you Campaign, the route benefited from over 5,000 extra peak seats. From 13 December, we will be adding a further 6,500 peak seats across the Great Northern route. An extra 41 carriages will allow us to offer more and longer trains providing more seats than ever before on this route. There will also be some Off-Peak service enhancements. Check the tables of this booklet for details of your specific journey. Don’t forget that we produce a wide range of handy sized mini timetables for all routes and commuter cards for our busiest stations. Pick up a copy from your local station. Engineering work can affect train times, particularly at weekends and overnight. Check pages 20 to 30 for details of work planned at the time of printing. If you need a few hints on how to use this timetable, the notes on pages 18 and 19 may help you.     Elstree & Borehamwood RAILWAY TIMELINE DATE EVENT 1857 Midland Railway - Leicester to Hitchin Line was opened (Congestion and freight from GNR made sharing its line south of Hitchin untenable - a new line extension was sought. 22 June1863 Midland Railways 'Extension To London Act' given 'Royal Assent' 1864 Line leaves main route at St. Paul's Road and proceeds in tunnel to junction west of Kings Cross Midland Railways ' St. Pancras Act' (later known as City Branch). 9th Sept. 1867 Goods traffic started using line to St. Pancras Goods Station 13th July 1868 Passenger Services commenced on new extension - to Moorgate St. until St. Pancras opened. 1st non- stop to St. Albans 1st October 1868 St. Pancras Mainline Station opens. 1875 Midland Railway dispense with third class altogether. 1883 Trains regular enough to show signs of 'commuter' services. 1889 Tracks widened to allow freight and passenger trains. 1894 Photographer J.B.B.     9th September 2013 Railfuture Oxford to Cambridge (East West Rail) campaign Briefing note on route options for the Central Section from Bedford to Cambridge Introduction The government and the Office of Rail Regulation have approved the upgrading and rebuilding of the railway between Oxford and Bedford, the Western Section of East West Rail. Railfuture is a long-term campaigner for the completion of the East West Rail project to Cambridge and into East Anglia. The Eastern Section of the route is already in use from Norwich and Ely to Cambridge via the soon to be opened Cambridge Science Park station; from Ipswich via Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket to Cambridge; and from Stansted Airport to Cambridge. Map 1: The East West Rail Link Between Bedford and Cambridge some of the original route is lost to development and population growth in the region has occurred away from the original stations. The question of corridor and route selection is therefore a key factor in making the case for the Bedford to Cambridge (Central) section of East West Rail. Railfuture is assessing the candidate corridors that have been identified by the East West Rail (EWR) Consortium. An early conclusion is that routes for possible approaches to the two nodes, Bedford and Cambridge, should be agreed and protected at an early stage, such is the pace of growth and development. In one road PC Thorpe found three unlocked cars. Residents should make sure that their automatic locking systems are actually working! 2. LOCAL RAILWAY AND TRAIN SERVICE Graham Smith, Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery Manager at Network Rail (NR) answered questions and listened to concerns. • He is looking to improve the trackside planting near Palmers Green. Trackside clearance is needed for safety but he will make sure it is more sensitively managed in future, • He is looking into the possibility of some planting to screen the track near the skew bridge in Hoppers Road, • He is meeting with Cllr.
