This timetable shows all First Capital Connect services operating between Bedford, Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, St Albans, London, Wimbledon, Sutton, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport and Brighton (and trains we run jointly with Southeastern to/from Beckenham Junction, Sevenoaks and Orpington) from Sunday 12 December 2010 to Saturday 21 May 2011. Details of First Capital Connect services on the Great Northern route are available in Train Times booklet A. This timetable shows services of all operators between London, Luton and Bedford but only First Capital Connect services between London and Brighton. For other services between London and Sutton/Brighton please see Southern Railway publicity. 2 Welcome to First Capital Connect Dear Customer Welcome to the December 2010 edition of the Thameslink timetable. Since the start of our franchise in 2006, we’ve added over 11,000 extra seats across the morning and evening rush hours to reduce overcrowding on the Thameslink route. Almost 5,000 of those are thanks to the Thameslink Programme, a massive £5.5bn scheme through which we have already put into service 23 new air-conditioned Electrostar trains. But much more needs to be done and we’re pushing ahead with the second stage to introduce the first 50% longer, 12-carriage trains between Bedford and Brighton in December 2011. These initial services will run fast between St Albans and London, but they will take the pressure off services calling intermediately. There will be new or remodelled stations at Blackfriars, Farringdon, Bedford and West Hampstead Thameslink and engineering work every night and most weekends. For further details visit: thameslinkprogramme.co.uk On Saturdays and Sundays, St Pancras International to St Albans/Luton all-stations services will only operate between Kentish Town and St Albans/Luton. This change is necessary because of work in conjunction with the Thameslink Programme. Check the timetables in this booklet for details. A full summary of changes is available at firstcapitalconnect.co.uk or on station posters. Don’t forget that we produce a wide range of handy sized mini timetables for all routes and commuter cards for our busiest stations. Pick up a copy from your local station. Engineering work can affect train times, particularly at weekends and overnight. Check pages 22–31 for details of work planned at the time of printing. If you need a few hints on how to use this timetable, the notes on pages 20 and 21 may help you. Always check before travelling We try to run the service shown in this booklet whenever we can, however it is important that you check for any engineering work or service disruption before you travel. Engineering work Services may be altered, particularly at weekends, overnight and on bank holidays. A summary of planned changes (correct at the time of printing) is included on pages 22–31. • Passenger Focus' Response to C2c's Proposed Franchise Extension July
Passenger Focus’ response to c2c’s proposed franchise extension July 2008 Passenger Focus – who we are and what we do Passenger Focus is the independent national rail consumer watchdog. It is an executive non- departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Transport. Our mission is to get the best deal for Britain's rail passengers. We have two main aims: to influence both long and short term decisions and issues that affect passengers and to help passengers through advice, advocacy and empowerment. With a strong emphasis on evidence-based campaigning and research, we ensure that we know what is happening on the ground. We use our knowledge to influence decisions on behalf of rail passengers and we work with the rail industry, other passenger groups and Government to secure journey improvements. Our vision is to ensure that the rail industry and Government are always ‘putting rail passengers first’ This will be achieved through our mission of ‘getting the best deal for passengers’ 1 Contents 1. Introduction Passenger Focus welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Department for Transport’s (DfT) consultation on the proposal to extend c2c’s franchise by two years. Although the consultation process has not been formally set out we were aware of informal discussions for an extension since last year. We view the extension proposal as a very good opportunity for the c2c franchise to be revitalised with a fresh mandate to develop and improve operational performance as well as customer services.

  • Railways: Thameslink Infrastructure Project
Railways: Thameslink infrastructure project Standard Note: SN1537 Last updated: 26 January 2012 Author: Louise Butcher Section Business and Transport This note describes the Thameslink infrastructure project, including information on how the scheme got off the ground, construction issues and the policy of successive government towards the project. It does not deal with the controversial Thameslink rolling project to purchase new trains to run on the route. This is covered in HC Library note SN3146. The re- let of the Thameslink passenger franchise is covered in SN1343, both available on the Railways topical page of the Parliament website. The Thameslink project involves electrification, signalling and new track works. This will increase capacity, reduce journey times and generally expand the current Thameslink route through central London and across the South East of England. On completion in 2018, up to 24 trains per hour will operate through central London, reducing the need for interchange onto London Underground services. The project dates back to the Conservative Government in the mid-1990s. It underwent a lengthy public inquiry process under the Labour Government and has been continued by the Coalition Government. However, the scheme will not be complete until 2018 – 14 years later than its supporters had hoped when the scheme was initially proposed. • SP4 - 11/12 Drawings of Some Special Assemblies Designed and Built for the Blackfriars Project in 2012
New Blackfriars Station Blackfriars Station is a complex, Network Rail and London Underground (LUL) station interchange in the heart of London, which has recently undergone extensive redevelopment. Its Network Rail platforms have been extended and span the River Thames a short distance from Blackfriars Bridge. The north bank entrance is on Queen Victoria Street and a new entrance on the south bank was opened in December 2011. At the same time, the Underground station was closed for nearly three years (from March 2009 until February 2012) to enable major engineering works to be carried out, allowing the Network Rail and LUL lines to share the same ticket hall and other services. Not only did Balfour Beatty (the Main Contractor) have to meet the many technical and logistical challenges associated with carrying out a fast track, major construction project in central London, they also had to meet the many electrical challenges arising from an installation involving Network Rail “Third Rail” traction supplies and London Underground’s Section 12 requirements for underground stations. Fortunately, Blakley Electrics were on hand to assist! Third Rail Locations In areas within 30 metres of the Third Rail, Network Rail specify that RCDs are classified “DC Immune”, as made by Blakley Electrics. Unlike standard RCDs, DC Immune RCDs are not desensitised by the presence of relatively small DC leakage currents, which saturate the magnetic circuit of standard RCDs and prevents them from tripping. DC Immune RCDs normally protect single ring main circuits. However, due to the high number of circuits to be protected and the tight space constraints, multi-way, DP, DC Immune RCD assemblies were supplied.

  • Introduction Railfuture Oxford to Cambridge (East West Rail)
9th September 2013 Railfuture Oxford to Cambridge (East West Rail) campaign Briefing note on route options for the Central Section from Bedford to Cambridge Introduction The government and the Office of Rail Regulation have approved the upgrading and rebuilding of the railway between Oxford and Bedford, the Western Section of East West Rail. Railfuture is a long-term campaigner for the completion of the East West Rail project to Cambridge and into East Anglia. The Eastern Section of the route is already in use from Norwich and Ely to Cambridge via the soon to be opened Cambridge Science Park station; from Ipswich via Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket to Cambridge; and from Stansted Airport to Cambridge. Map 1: The East West Rail Link Between Bedford and Cambridge some of the original route is lost to development and population growth in the region has occurred away from the original stations. The question of corridor and route selection is therefore a key factor in making the case for the Bedford to Cambridge (Central) section of East West Rail. Railfuture is assessing the candidate corridors that have been identified by the East West Rail (EWR) Consortium. An early conclusion is that routes for possible approaches to the two nodes, Bedford and Cambridge, should be agreed and protected at an early stage, such is the pace of growth and development. Page 1 of 10 9th September 2013 Purpose The purpose of this document is to set out the options for EWR route options for the approach to Cambridge from the west. The options for Bedford will be covered by another document.
