Storyline: Pittsburgh quarterback Neil O’Donnell’s three interceptions, two by Dallas defensive back Larry Brown who was named MVP, doomed the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX. They held Emmit Smith to 49 yards on 18 carries but he scored on two short second-half touchdown runs (1, 4). Pittsburgh Greg Lloyd, OLB (Fort Valley State) Two solo tackles, five assists and one pass break-up in loss to Dal- las. - Teamed with linebacker LeVon Kirkland to bring down Dallas run- ning back Emmit Smith after 6-yard run to the left. - Teams with defensive back Carnell Lake to stop Michael Irvin after 12-yard pass from quarterback Troy Aikman. Next play, teams with linebacker Jerry Olsavsky to stop Smith after 4-yard run up the mid- dle. Seven plays later in same drive, teams with Olsavsky to tackle tight end Jay Novacek after 19-yard completion. Next play, teams with safety Myron Bell to stop Smith for no gain. Two plays later, Boniol kicks 35-yard field goal to put Dalas up 10-0 (6:03). - Stops Smith for no gain late in second quarter. - Stops Smith after 6-yard run up the middle late in the third quarter. Next play, almost intercepts a pass intended for Irvin. - Teams with defensive lineman Joel Steed to stop Smith on 2-yard run to the left. Yancey Thigpen, WR (Winston-Salem State) Three (3) receptions for 19 yards including a 6-yard TD catch over Deion Sanders in loss. - Catches 6-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Neil O’Donnell with :13 seconds left in the half (Dallas 13, Pittsburgh 7). - Catches 7-yard pass to the right early in fourth quarter. Four plays later Norm John- son kicks 46-yard field goal (Dallas 20, Pittsburgh 10). Pittsburgh recovers onsides kick. - Catches 6-yard pass crossing to the left. Three plays later, running back Bam Morris scores on 1-yard TD run (Dallas 20, Pittsburgh 17, 6:36). - Makes tackle on safety Brock Marion on last play of the game after O’Donnell inter- ception. Dallas Nate Newton, OG (Florida A&M) Started at guard for Dallas in win over Pittsburgh. - Called for false start in Dallas’ second possession in first quarter. Erik Williams, OT (Central State) Started at tackle in win over Pittsburgh. Greg Briggs, S (Texas Southern - #43) ≥ One special teams’ tackle in win over Pittsburgh. - Teams with Charlie Williams to stop Fred McAfee after 17-yard return late in the fourth quarter. KEY FACTS: Pittsburgh wide receiver Yancy Thigpen (Winston-Salem State) had three receptions for 19 yards including a touchdown at the goal line on Dallas corner- back Deion Sanders. ON BOARD: Pittsburgh linebacker Greg Lloyd (#95, Fort Valley State) struggles to bring down Dallas tight end Jay Novacek (#84).
