Tanrısever March 2018, 490 pages The central topic of this study is the nexus between water and hydroelectricity. The main issue discussed here is how economic activity influences and is being influenced by water management, hydroelectricity production and electricity trade in key transboundary river basins. The unit of analysis is the state, the limits of which are defined by modern political boundaries; and the geographically demarcated river basins that involve the selected cases are subject to evaluation in broader context. In terms of energy trade relations, the primary focus is on the dyadic interconnections between the riparians, although basin-wide regional electricity trade relations are discussed in a complementary manner. iv The research question this study aims to address is how and to what degree state-level water management policies affect and are being affected by the dyad-level hydropower trade. The initial hypothesis tested is that there is a dialectical and inverse relationship between the level of trade (or sharing) of hydroelectricity between political units in a transboundary river basin and the number and severity of water-induced and mostly economy based dy- adic issue areas between riparians. The findings of the study confirm the hypothesis. This thesis assumes that there are some factors that may augment or impede the severity and the number issue areas between the riparians in key river basins, and also, that may increase or decrease the level of hydropower traded across boundaries. These are the geo- graphical features of the cases; institutional and legal frameworks that deal with water, energy and environment issues in specific river basins; the varying nature of backgrounds based on environmental histories; and the structure and size of the economic activity within a river basin. The chapters of this study are designed in accordance, with the focus being on the economic aspects of dams, which play a decisive role in water management, eco- nomic development, and hydropower production. Test edilen başlangıç hipotezi, belli bir sınır aşan nehir havzası içinde yer alan siyasi birimler arasındaki hidroelektrik enerji ticareti veya paylaşımının seviyesi ile kıyıdaşlar arasında su kaynaklı ve ekonomik temelli ikili sorun alanlarının sayısı ve şiddeti arasında iki yönlü ve ters bir ilişki olduğu yönündeki hipotezdir. Çalışmanın bulguları genel olarak bu hipotezi doğrulamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın temel varsayımı, önemli nehir havzaları dâhilinde, kıyıdaş ülkeler arasındaki siyasi veya iktisadi meselelerin şiddetini ve sayısını artıran veya azaltan, aynı zamanda da komşu iki ülke arasında gerçekleşen hidroelektrik enerji ticaretinin seviyesi üzerinde belir- leyici olan bazı unsurlar olduğudur. In Pakistan, there is lack of information and awareness on water footprints of processes and products. This study throws light on the water footprint of cotton textile production in Pakistan. Blue, green and grey water footprints have been included in this research communication. Water footprint assessment is essential in determining how much water is consumed in which process and how it can be managed effectively. It is a reliable method to plan sustainable, equitable and efficient use of water resources. The results of the study revealed that the blue water footprint (BWF) of cotton seed in Punjab is 1898 m³/t. The water abstracted for textile processing is about 169 m³/t of finished fabric, of which approximately 26 m³/t is consumed (i.e. the BWF of textile manufacture) with the remainder being discharged as waste water. However, the water footprint of chemical inputs is not very high in comparison to other parts of the supply chain (less than 1 m³/t). Overall, the blue WF of finished textile in Punjab, Pakistan is 4650 m³/t on average.

Ever since China joined the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2004, it has done a lot not only on cognition but also on action to contribute to the protection and transmission of intangible cultural heritage. Please allow me to expatiate these on the case of Chinese nanyin(南音, southern music). I. The precious multi-values of nanyin decide the necessity of protection and transmission for Chinese nanyin. Nanyin, also known as “nanqu” (南曲), “nanyue” (南乐), “nanguan” (南管), “xianguan” (弦管), is one of the oldest music genres with strong local characteristics. As major musical genre, it prevails in the south of Fujian – both in the cities and countryside of Quanzhou, Xiamen, Zhangzhou – and is also quite popular in Taiwan, Hongkong, Macao and the countries of Southeast Asia inhabited by Chinese immigrants from South Fujian. The music of nanyin is also found in various Fujian local operas such as Liyuan Opera (梨园戏), Gaojia Opera (高甲戏), line-leading puppet show (提线木偶戏), Dacheng Opera (打城戏) and the like, forming an essential part of their vocal melodies and instrumental music. Agenda item 2 Introductions (Plenary) Each participant gave their name, affiliation and interest/experience in WBH, covering hosts, facilitators, sponsors and all participants. Agenda item 3 Housekeeping (Plenary) This covered the topics: workshop protocols, workshop timeliness, meals and times, reimbursement for expenses, onward travel arrangements, secretariat support to the workshop by ATREE, note-taking for record. Agenda item 4 Workshop objectives and products (Plenary) Facilitator proposed that we needed to discuss and agree on: specification of the final product; will the proposed Agenda and schedule deliver this? Should there be a workshop report. Points made in discussion arising, and subsequently grouped: Biological • We must summarise the information we have on the WBH, and identify gaps, • To fill gaps, we should assign groups to address this and develop information, • For a summary of WBH biology and ecology, the Status Review should be developed further. WBH Conservation strategy • We must produce a realistic and effective strategy for WBH conservation, • It should be a high level strategy that comes down to a more specific, range-state level, • There must be specific recommendations and solutions for particular range states and heron sites.
