Se video på YouTube her “With ‘The Inevitable End’ we've moved into a darker subject matter, with emphasis on the lyrical content. This candid approach feels very both personal, sincere and conclusive.” says Svein, “With this album it became clear we wanted to make an album in a classical sense even if it's the last one we make,” adds Torbjørn Se video på YouTube her Having now created five complete bodies of work, the pair feel like the future is open to being more experimental with how they share their music. “We feel like this is a goodbye to the traditional album format,” explains Svein. “In our consecutive run of albums, we have been able to say what we want to say and do what we want to do with the LP. • Download Pdf Biography
Biography by Michael Cragg Since they first burst onto the scene with the release of their classic debut album ‘Melody A.M’ back in 2001, Norwegian electronic music overlords Röyksopp have only released three further studio albums. First came 2005's more experimental ‘The Understanding’, then 2009's extrovert, pop-lead ‘Junior’ followed swiftly by its more introvert sister album, ‘Senior’. That was back in 2010. Four years later, however, and following a burst of creativity instigated by personal upheaval and the general living of lives they're about to release their second album in the space of six months – following ‘Do It Again’, their collaborative mini-album with fellow Scandinavian legend, Robyn – in the shape of the multi-faceted, ‘The Inevitable End’. “We feel there's a lot of music out there that just doesn't have any identity - something that we really strive for in our music,” says Torbjørn of the time it takes between releases. “We don't feel like we're in any hurry; we intend to make music we cannot find elsewhere - which is both ambitious and time consuming” agrees Svein. “And we also want our music to have longevity, therefore we always seek to produce and engineer it in a way that steers clear of generic production trends.” As with most things Röyksopp do there is a multi-faceted reason behind the album's title, ‘The Inevitable End’. While they're keen to point out that it doesn't mark the end of Röyksopp, they do see it as their final album. “We feel like this is a goodbye to the traditional album format,” explains Svein.

The island’s environment is meant to inspire visitors to question their own place in the world. “It’s not like going to Glastonbury, where lots of people are arriving to eat and drink and have fun,” says Mogård- Larsen. “With Salt we have had people making the journey all the way from Australia and New York and they all have different reasons for being here. Visitors can find out something about the people living in the Arctic – how they’re thinking today and how they lead their lives – and they can learn from one 12 another, too.” Mogård-Larsen is adamant about the event’s appeal and seems to revel in its oddness. “On the opening weekend, people had been very sceptical about the project. And it is understandable when we’re saying, ‘Yeah, we’re going to take some fish racks and make some art out of them.’ But on this opening weekend people saw the beauty of it; some were actually standing on the beach and crying because it was so beautiful. And they understood what we tried to say: that this is our background, a strong symbol of the north, something we’ve been 11 living off for thousands of years.” Mogård-Larsen and Nordby’s high-north escape is a bold reinterpretation of the festival model but in its idealism is one that actually harks back to the roots of counterculture, when acting a bit strangely in a field – or a beach in this case – still meant something.

Social Meaning in Virtual Space: Sentence-final expressions in the Japanese popular mediascape DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Hannah Elizabeth Dahlberg-Dodd, M.A. Graduate Program in East Asian Languages and Literatures The Ohio State University 2019 Dissertation Committee Charles Quinn, Advisor Mineharu Nakayama Anna Babel Mie Hiramoto Copyright by Hannah Elizabeth Dahlberg-Dodd 2019 Abstract Often cited as one of the most salient indices of sociocultural meaning, “sentence-final expressions” (bunmatsu hyōgen) have long been a subject of analysis in Japanese linguistics. These units are a kind of what Bolinger and Sear (1981) more broadly refer to as an “audible gesture,” or a linguistic unit that conveys paralinguistic meanings, i.e. meaning that includes neither denotational nor propositional content. Named for their frequent and typical appearance at the end of utterances, in Japanese an immense number are deployed to a wide variety of sociocultural ends. Because of the large number of available expressions, however, previous research has struggled to develop a method of sociolinguistic analysis that is capable of capturing their multivalent nature. This is a difficulty that has been compounded by an array of different degrees of use, resulting in highly skewed levels of academic attention being given to certain expressions and nearly none to others. In this dissertation, I explore alternate means of addressing
