Site Description and Proposal 1.1 The site is an area of farmland adjacent to Epwell Grounds Farm complex, which lies to the north of Epwell Road, approximately 950m to the south of the village of Shenington, 1.2km to the north-west of the village of Shutford and 850m to the west of The Plain Road. 1.2 The topography of the wider landscape is varied, scattered with a number of small hills.     Shenington with Alkerton’s Music & Literature Festival The 2019 Programme Shenington with Alkerton’s Music & Literature Festival Welcome to Shenfest 2019 We are again pleased to welcome our community together, with their family and friends, to have fun, to enjoy quality music and literature events and to help raise money for great local causes. Help and encouragement has come from many sources but we would particularly like to thank our sponsors and advertisers. Their kindness and generosity has allowed our costs to be covered and thus we are able again to make entry to all events FREE. We would like to encourage everyone attending to make donations at each event to help maintain our two beautiful Norman churches and to support the inspiring work of the Banbury Young Homelessness Project (BYHP). The programme summary for Shenfest 2019, complete with timing and location details, is on the back page of this brochure. The festival begins with an evening of jazz and swing from the Great Central Big Band, followed by more contemporary music in The Bell. Little Shenfest has a Narnia theme at lunchtime on Saturday and is followed by a talk in Alkerton church by Jacqui Furneaux about her extended trip through Asia and South America on a Royal Enfield Bullet motorbike. We are then very fortunate to have a quintet from the London Mozart Players as our main musical event on Saturday evening. In contrast, The Bell will then host The Popes until late into the evening. On Sunday afternoon the Sloggers again take on The Authors at the cricket ground in Wroxton.

    Cropredy Bridge By MISS M. R. TOYNBEE and J. J. LEEMING I IE bridge over the River Chenveff at Cropredy was rebuilt by the Oxford­ shire County Council in J937. The structure standing at that time was for T the most part comparatively modern, for the bridge, as will be explained later, has been thoroughly altered and reconstructed at least twice (in J780 and 1886) within the last 160 years. The historical associations of the bridge, especiaffy during the Civil War period, have rendered it famous, and an object of pilgrimage, and it seems there­ fore suitable, on the occasion of its reconstruction, to collect together such details as are known about its origin and history, and to add to them a short account of the Civil War battle of 1644, the historical occurrence for which the site is chiefly famous. The general history of the bridge, and the account of the battle, have been written by Miss Toynbee; the account of the 1937 reconstruction is by Mr. Leeming, who, as engineer on the staff of the Oxfordshire County Council, was in charge of the work. HISTORY OF TIlE BRIDGE' The first record of the existence of a bridge at Cropredy dates, so far as it has been possible to discover, from the year 1312. That there was a bridge in existence before 1312 appears to be pretty certain. Cropredy was a place of some importance in the :\1iddle Ages. It formed part of the possessions of the See of Lincoln, and is entered in Domesday Book as such. 'The Bishop of Lincoln holds Cropelie.

    M 1 Theodore the Hermit A 4 2 3 For many years between the wars and until he died in 1950, Theodore Lamb lived the life of a recluse in a shack on Sibford Heath. A skilled watch and clock repairer, Theodore plied his trade around the local villages. He also played various instruments and posed for photographs for which he charged a fee of half a crown. He travelled around, sometimes on a bicycle without tyres, sometimes on foot, and usually with some form of truck loaded with junk and, in the winter, his fire in a bucket as well. He always paid for his small needs, although when his clothing, which was often made from sacks, Location Map became less than decent he was banned from Banbury and had to wait at the door of the village shop to be served. He was always totally honest and completely harmless despite his appearance.
