Banbury. DESCRIPTION Manor House is an exceptional Grade II listed thatched property, made of local Hornton stone. It has a rich history, having once been owned by Frank Lascelles the Pageant Master of the Empire. During his ownership from 1907, the original seventeenth century dwellings were extended and redesigned incorporating a wealth of Arts and Crafts features .The differing styles of these eras blend beautifully and the property has been further sympathetically updated and enhanced over recent years and is now a warm and inviting family home - ideal for modern living and entertaining. This has been thoughtfully achieved and has ensured that there has been no loss of the character and charm that the property exudes. The property is approached through a distinctive stone archway, which leads to the large gravel drive with parking for several vehicles. The house has a wealth of period features including open fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, exposed timbers, leaded light windows, flagstone and wooden floors, stained glass windows, window seats, exposed stone walling, bay windows, deep window boards and panelled internal doors. Positioned off the entrance hallway is the open plan kitchen/breakfast room, with central island, french doors to the garden and a comfortable seating area in front of an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. This leads through to the magnificent Great Hall, which features a vaulted ceiling with exposed timberwork, and a Minstrels Gallery with a delightful oriel window featuring stained glass and a window seat, giving a lovely vantage point over the Great Hall and gardens to the side. Its impressive inglenook fireplace is thought to have been the inspiration for Ivor Novello’s song ‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’ which was written whilst staying as a guest of Lascelles, who welcomed many important people of the day to the house. This room makes an excellent banqueting hall and the large dry wine cellar situated under the study/snug ensures wine supplies can be kept well stocked. Adjacent to the study is the cinema room. The spacious reception spaces are complimented by seven large bedrooms, five of which are en suite, and are approached by separate staircases in the North and South wings. STUDIO STUDIO The Studio is a double height annexe with its own mezzanine bath/shower room, with a lovely aspect kitchen, wet room and a vast open plan living/ over the gardens to the rear. There is a central sleeping space, with mezzanine level. It has its own landing/library and beyond a delightful bedroom separate entrance and French windows leading out with bay window, a family bathroom and bedroom onto the pool terrace. This was once an artist’s three. At the other end of the house approached via studio, and being integral to the house, yet separate, a separate staircase are four further bedrooms suites, offers a very versatile space, for those looking to all with newly fitted, contemporary bath / shower work from home, for accommodation for parents, rooms. M 1 Theodore the Hermit A 4 2 3 For many years between the wars and until he died in 1950, Theodore Lamb lived the life of a recluse in a shack on Sibford Heath. A skilled watch and clock repairer, Theodore plied his trade around the local villages. He also played various instruments and posed for photographs for which he charged a fee of half a crown. He travelled around, sometimes on a bicycle without tyres, sometimes on foot, and usually with some form of truck loaded with junk and, in the winter, his fire in a bucket as well. He always paid for his small needs, although when his clothing, which was often made from sacks, Location Map became less than decent he was banned from Banbury and had to wait at the door of the village shop to be served. • Traffic Sensitive Streets – Briefing Sheet
Traffic Sensitive Streets – Briefing Sheet Introduction Oxfordshire County Council has a legal duty to coordinate road works across the county, including those undertaken by utility companies. As part of this duty we can designate certain streets as ‘traffic-sensitive’, which means on these roads we can better regulate the flow of traffic by managing when works happen. For example, no road works in the centre of Henley-on-Thames during the Regatta. Sensitive streets designation is not aimed at prohibiting or limiting options for necessary road works to be undertaken. Instead it is designed to open-up necessary discussions with relevant parties to decide when would be the best time to carry out works. Criteria For a street to be considered as traffic sensitive it must meet at least one of the following criteria as set out in the table below: Traffic sensitive street criteria A The street is one on which at any time, the county council estimates traffic flow to be greater than 500 vehicles per hour per lane of carriageway, excluding bus or cycle lanes B The street is a single carriageway two-way road, the carriageway of which is less than 6.5 metres wide, having a total traffic flow of not less than 600 vehicles per hour C The street falls within a congestion charges area D Traffic flow contains more than 25% heavy commercial vehicles E The street carries in both directions more than eight buses per hour F The street is designated for pre-salting by the county council as part of its programme of winter maintenance G The street is within 100 metres of a critical signalised junction, gyratory or roundabout system H The street, or that part of a street, has a pedestrian flow rate at any time of at least 1300 persons per hour per metre width of footway I The street is on a tourist route or within an area where international, national, or significant major local events take place.

South Central Triathlon Training Camp & Coaching Development Camp 2019 Youth, TS3 and TS2 Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd August TS1 Friday 2nd August At Sibford School, Sibford Ferris, Banbury, OX15 5QL And Shenington Go Kart Track Shenington Airfield, Shenington, Banbury, OX15 6NW** meet here on first day**Overnight camping with showers/kitchen available on site for both Thursday and Friday night. Aim-Athletes In 2018 South Central won the ‘National Triathlon Championships Relay’ races at the IRC. This is not only because we have outstanding athletes in our area, but it is also due to building strong relationships, and team spirit within the South Central regional events. Our South Central Camp now is now in its fourth year, and I believe this is where all these relationships grow and develop. Not only between the children but also the coaches/parents. It is so important that we work together to develop triathlon in our area and support these children. I hope your child can come and be part of our amazing journey so far! Aim -Coaches In 2019 we want to try and develop the coaching network throughout South Central so we can all support each other. So this year we would like to offer any coach involved in South Central to come forward and help volunteer. Please contact me by email: hesterpollock@hotmail,com if you feel this is something that you would like to be involved with. The more we all work together and learn from each other, the better our athletes can develop. You will need to be a member of BTF, be a Level 1 coach or above (This doesn’t have to be triathlon: could be swimming, or another related sport), and have a current DBS.

INTRODUCTION An unguarded curiosity about whether the men of Oxfordshire went to war with Henry V in 1415 and the chance finding of the medieval soldier database (www.medievalsoldier.org), led to this investigation of the known community in the county at the time and the gradual listing of possible participants1. In so doing, some local evidence has been found which may throw light on issues of wider interest to military and social historians. This includes some possible indicators for the motivations behind individuals’ involvement in military service, some comments on the family traditions of such participation and the degree to which local networks operated in the formation of retinues. This study is a work still in progress designed to test the usefulness of the database as a tool for prosopographical investigation of this area of English military history. Not all areas discussed are fully developed yet but it is hoped they are of sufficient interest to be worth sharing at this stage.
